  1. I'm trying to do the same thing. what is the url of the transfer page? or where is the link located. I activated my son's coin on accident. erik
  2. Well, there is a need for folks bringing concerns to the table over some caches. The thing is the person doing the reporting should abide by the decision of the community or the listing site. I've reported caches before and they've been archived. Why? Well, because they were illegally placed. No, not just a bad idea, but permanent damages made to private property where you know no one would be able to get permission. It wasn't my own position either. Other cachers made the same comments. In short, don't be afraid to bring concerns to the attention of the community, but don't go off half cocked, Rambo-style. I agree with what you have said here. When I say cache cop I mean some one who complains or takes action against a cache without actually going to the cache or have been exposed to the PC. I would elaborate more but I would be going off topic and maybe a little personal against the person I have in mind.
  3. Let's not advocate stealing caches and travel bugs. Two wrongs doesn't make a right. believe me, I do not advocate that. I don't want a martyr and I wouldn't want anyone to steal my cache or bug. I was just saying I wouldn' t be suprised if it did happen.
  4. When I registered for this website I used my e-mail address which was simply my first name, combined with a shortened version of my last name (which is long and Polish). There have been times since that I wished had created a more personalized name, something that said a little bit more about me. I've seen some really cool names and sometimes wish I did something similar. That said, the name that I would have chosen at various points in my life would vary greatly. Names I chose when I was 19 probably wouldn't have any meaning for me as I approach the big five 0. Would I really want to be QueenFan, FratBoy or GanjaDude now? Nah. And names I would choose now might not be appropriate for me 20 years from now. So I'm kind of stuck with BrianSnat. I've registered that name on gazillion websites (I can't count the times I went to register on a "new" website and found I was already there) and when I Google the name, I can be pretty certain that all of the over 2,000 hits (web and groups) are me. How many Soogans or Criminals can say that? ditto.. ditto.. wow, that was freaky
  5. I've stated my disdain(sp?) for cache cops, especially lately, but this is over the top. It's one thing to have a reviewer archive a cache because you don't think it jives but to call a muggle and have them confiscate the cache is absurd. I don't live in your state but other cachers do. I would not be suprised to hear that one of your future cache hides was stolen. or maybe your singles bug. Just sayin'.
  6. I'll do North Carolina. I also am placing a traditional cache that you can use for a stage. ps write anyone from Lake County Cachers for Florida.
  7. My personal opinion is that I would like the stats to stay. I like them. don't punish me because some people don't. I like the option presented to make your stats private.
  8. Is that the official Groundspeak position or your experience as a Moderator? Serious question. I'm a moderator in the Getting Started forum. I do not speak for Groundspeak in any other forum. It really was seriuos question. I wasn't trying to be abrasive. Thank you for clarification. I'm still learning what each position does.

  10. I agree 100%. And I make no bones about it. If we (and I do mean WE) don't get a handle on this issue Geocaching will become a bygone memory, or worse, a back alley activity that gets someone hurt. I love this sport. I love the comrauderie (sp?), not so much in here. I love seeing placed I would have never seen before and meeting people I have never met before. Can I do this on my own without caching? An honest answer is no. I hear every week about a new cache blown up by the bomb squad. I cringe. I have moved to a new town in North Carolina that currently has no caches. I plan to meet with the police chief, the fire chief, and someone from the mayors office to educate them on Geocaching and what to expect and of the benifits to tourism and the like. I would really hate to be made to look like an idiot because a hide-happy cacher finds virgin ground to conquer. JMHBAO
  11. To ensure this does not become a personal thread like Keystone said it would I am closing it down. If you would like to send me hate mail you are welcome to use my profile address. Erik
  12. I agree much with Brian, although I am not at all sure what the OP was trying to say. There is a cacher going around scouring the cache pages looking for Pocket Caches(PC's) and then telling a moderator(or reviewer) and getting them to act. Sicking them on it (eg. sick 'em fido)(not infering mods and reviewers are dogs) Once again, your information is (1) inaccurate and (2) out of date. Forum moderators have no power over geocaches. And reviewers typically do not take action outside their own territory except in cases of emergency or when asked to help out as a backup. The pocket caches were archived by Groundspeak. Groundspeak is now offering affected cache owners the opportunity to restore their caches in one of two ways, by either creating a new cache (if there was a permanent cache with coordinates) or by unarchiving the old cache and cleaning up the pocket cache finds. So your information is also a week out of date in terms of Groundspeak's approach to this issue. Affected cache owners should contact their volunteer cache reviewer if they wish to explore the above alternatives. Thank you Keystone. One of my issues has been addressed. As far as who was doing the actual archiving I didn't know the exact position but I new one person had to tell on them first. That is my chief concern. not who, or why, but how.
  13. I think that noble goal was lost in the initial post. I caution everyone to avoid personal attacks, whether open or veiled. I am not very sure why we have to have another thread to rehash pocket caches, but provided that the discussion can take place without personal attacks, it can certainly take place. I understand and fully agree that these posts should not be personal. I did not mention anyone by name. I think what has happenned is immature and the practice brought to light. I have an opinion. I respect others but I still have mine. As I understand it this is the purpose of these forums, to voice our opinions. If I was going to make it personal I would have said who it was. There have been a couple of times I had a direct question to this person and I asked it off list. I'm not attacking the individual, I'm attacking the practice of snooping and tattleing. edited for clarity

  15. Allow me to clarify. I no longer think Pocket Caches are legit caches. I have deleted some 17 PC finds from my log total. When the person I mentioned in my original post brought it up I did some "soul searching" and decided to no longer participate or condone PC's. I'm not questioning the legitimasy (sp?) of PC's. The problem is that I have seen some legit caches that are at the coords stated and that do not move archived because the owner has let someone log a find at an event. Is a PC bad form? Yes. Should it stop? Yes. Should a Moderator (or Reviewer) archive a cache without trying to get the cache owner to change his or her Modus Operandi? No. What would I do? If I was one of TPTB I would inform the cache owner that his or her actions in allowing PC logs on a legit cache is going to endanger their cache. if they don't take action then shut it down. By action I mean something like a note on the main page stating no PC logging or change the pc logs to "write note" What bothers me is that it is like little Billy going to the teacher "Johnie has gum, He's not supposed to have gum. Tell him to get rid of it." I think "tattletell" comes to mind. edited for clarity
  16. A short time ago there was a cacher who posted a question on the forums. He seemed to be a nice enough fellow. Just had a question about Pocket caches. It went on for days. I learned alot, so much so that I deleted all of my pocket cache logs so my find count would be legit. He kept saying he just wanted to know what it was. Here's the problem, It appears (I did say APPEARS) to be going around sicking the moderators on PC's. even actual caches that are also logged as pcs. I don't like to name people in here. You know who you are. What's up man? Is there anything else you could be doing than scouring the website finding "unacceptable" caches or logs? erikwillke (BTW) I know you are going to check out my profile. please let me know if there is anything that needs attention.
  17. I agree about the GC for the milestone caches. I used it and I loved it. So much so that I have already updated my Profile you'll notice that i removed Missouri from my map. that one was a virt that was designed to log remotely after completing a task. I like to only have states I have found a cache in on my map. otherwise. I LOVE IT.
  18. My son, Mr. McLintock is 5 years old and has his own GPSr. When we go and find a cache I will see it and I'll walk away and tell him I found it but will not tell him where it is. Then he goes and finds it. sometimes he finds them before I do. The fact that he can't type on a keyboard DOES NOT mean he isn't a geacacher. Since he is a legitimate cacher he deserves his own profile. FWIW edited for clarity
  19. here's mine: and this one on while moving: I actually stopped 4 times while on a 10 hour moving frive to cache. With all we owned in tow. At an actual cache location. Can you guess what GZ was?
  20. you write DRR on a cache container..... Wait.............. nevermind.
  21. Restatement of a post I made elsewhere in this thread earlier, but with a nod toward the above quote. I *AM* impressed by the high number cache record in a 24 hr period because I know how much prep work it takes to stage the run, and then how much focus and endurance it requires during the run. And the "fun factor" is impossible to measure. Having said that, I wholeheartedly support the rest of JohnnyVegas's comments above. Since mid-'04, IF STATS MATTER TO YOU, thanks to Micro Spew we are playing a different game from what it was pre mid-'04. And carrying the Barry Bonds analogy posted earlier, IF STATS MATTER TO YOU, it's like playing in the steroid era - it's possible to run up way more stats with less effort now than it used to take, and so the stats compiled in the old era and the new era are not fairly comparable. IF STATS MATTER TO YOU is the key caveat. If stats don't matter to you, this is a moot discussion. I'm just glad that I wasn't around before november 2004. I've only experienced post spew caching. I understand that caching was more challenging before the spew but we can't go back. It just seems that by your standards I will ALWAYS be substandard to you because all of my finds are post spew, My numbers will ALWAYS be in question because you happened to learn about this wonderful sport before I did. I like you drat but everytime you talk about the spew and how numbers don't matter after that I hear my grandpa and the uphill in snow both ways talk. Anyway. I'd still love to go caching with you to hear your "war stories" edited to correct speling
  22. There are enough people who have nothing to do so they should contact all the cache owners of the "finds" and have them check their logs. no sig, no find
