  1. 154mph in my S2000 a few weeks ago near the Mojave desert. I have a picture somewhere.....
  2. It's funny, right after I posted this thread, I found that page... Still looking for a stencil though, other wise the little guys head doesn't stay attached, neither does the flag.... I can't figure out how to make it look like his head doesn't have a big bar coming out of it
  3. Been searching for about an hour, I have found lots of good Geocache ID stencils, including the Sissy-n-CR version. I'm looking for the 4 Square logo in a stencil. I have only found one referance to such a stencil, but it was homade from a coffee can lid. I dont drink coffee so I don't have any lids around Does anybody have a good, hi-res GC 4-square logo? Preferably in pdf format. This is ok, but too small. Edges look bad when blown up. Yes I know I can fix in PS, but i'm looking for the easy answer first.
  4. My wife(KittyKat) has a tatoo like that on her ankle. I know what language that is
  5. Personally I use a Panasonic Toughboof CF-27 I got from eBay for about $100. Its the toughest laptop you can buy, though it does weight like 11lbs. It has fallen from my truck pasenger seat to the ground more than a few times and survived without any issues. Grab yourself a wifi card and head over to www.netstumbler.com and follow some of the directions @ www.wardriving.com and your set for all the free Wifi you could want. Note to the Admins on free Wifi: If the access point is unsecured, its free to use by anyone so long as they dont try to access any of the computers on the local network. This is the law in Ca anyway... not sure about other places. I have driven around geocaching with the laptop on the seat and netstumbler running. 70% of all access points are open. In areas that have broadband available have access points every few hundred feet sometimes.
  6. I take my cat Moxi geocaching, is that cheating?
  7. I just made a gpx with all of Los Angeles County benchmarks... the file is 43mb I gotta work on making this smaller.
  8. Thanks for all the great replies guys. Next time I'm in the area I'll take a picture and post it up for decyphering. I'll even link it for those on 56k
  9. meh... I would rip on the noobs the same way if they posted a stupid question without searching on my car forums. re: the image You would think that a forum dedicated to people using a multi-million dollar satellite based global navagation system would have users on a broadband connection
  10. About 60ft west of The Bobby Cache @ N34 11.703 W118 12.759 I searched for it on the benchmark side of GC but couldn't find it listed. I would have taken a picture, but I figured it was on the site and I could just log it. I was in a hurry so I didn't even really take a look at it. It was a typical Brass disk like i've seen before. No idea what dates were on it though. There was alos a much older benchmark of some sort about 2 feet away, faded markings, almost unreadable. Smaller and taller, brass. Any ideas? Do I have to go back with my camera? EDIT: It looked like this: This isnt it, but a nearby benchmark.
  11. Thanks, I should have searched before I posted...
  12. Wow... I feel like a n00b. I posted this very question without searching first. tsk tsk Shame on me. On a related note, can you change your username yourself, or does it require Admin intervention?
  13. Rather than create a new username and lose all my current finds, I would like to append my username to include my wife. Is this possible? Change usernames, but keep all finds. Would all my logs change as well? Would I lose them? The more I think about this, the more I dont think it's possible, but I figured I would ask anyway. -Jason
  14. Add another vote for GPXSonar. Paperless caching at it's finest. Grabbed one today on my way to work, then logged the find from the truck on a nearby open access point iPAQ 1935 w/ Pocket PC 2003
  15. The ISS orbits below the GPS satelites right? Could you get a reading? Im sure you would be moving way too fast for a consumer grade gprs to handle... Would the altitude be correct? What would happen if you had a GPSr onboard a craft that moved out past the orbits of the GPS satelites?
  16. I bought a Belkin brand USB-Serial adapter @ Circuit City for about $15 IIRC Works like a charm. No drivers needed for XP or 2K either.
  17. I use my Fisher Space Pen. It will write on anything, anywhere. @ $25 each I would hesitate to leave it in a cache, but I carry one with me everywhere I go just in case.
  18. Just upgraded... Works well with my HP1935 PPC Keep up the good work.
  19. I have a Yellow eTrex and a cheap no name data cable. The data cable does have the extra pins for power though.... After going though 3 sets of batteries this last week I started looking around for a better solution.... A power/data combo cable is the easy answer, but who wants to make things easy? I found a 3v cig lighter adapter laying around and wired it up to apropiate pins of a serial plug and epoxied it to the cig adapter. In the house I transfer waypoints into the eTrex, then carry it outside, data cable still attached and clip it into its holder and plug the data cable into the cig adapter and go. It would be awesome if somebody made a smaller, more professional looking device that does this. Mine reeks of homebrew. Pics tomorrow... maybe, if I remember.
  20. Go to your favorite electronics store, BestBuy, Circuit City etc etc http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-232MINI.html Look for one fo those, I bought mine for like $14 USB to Serial converter. WinXP and Win2k dont even need drivers for it, the OS maps it to like Com4 or something.
  21. A quick google search... http://www.ulocate.com/ http://www.accutracking.com/ Looks like if you have a Nextel Motorola phone your in luck.
  22. APRS is what your looking for, but you need some Ham radio equip. first, not to mention an FCC license. http://findu.com/ http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/aprs.html
  23. That's OK. GPSBabel supports both Streets & Trips and Street Atlas. (And about 50 other formats, the majority of which have "map" or "streets" somewhere in their names. :-) The correct format to choose for SA2003 is "csv". I got it. I was trying to import it as a map file, should have been inporting a draw file :duh: All is good now, thanks for the help.
  24. Wow! I must still be asleep! I have DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2003, Streets and Trips is an MS thing... Anyway, im still having trouble getting any waypioints into SA2003 Any tips? I've tried most of the format options using the gui front end.
