  1. Working for a few minutes but is down again now, just as I'm trying to log today's finds ...
  2. WHITE SCREEN WHEN 1000 CACHES SELECTED USING FIREFOX & WIN10 - ANY NEWS FROM ADMIN? Several postings by myself and others when 1000 caches selected using Firefox+Win10 ... totally "white screen" still occuring when zooming map scale out (same whether using '+/-' buttons or rolling the mouse wheel) or manually dragging the map with the mouse. This does NOT occur when 250, 500 or 750 caches are selected or when using Chrome with 1000. Can the development team confirm they are looking at this issue? The white screen does not happen when using for example Chrome and 1000 caches.
  3. UPDATE after further tests - "white screen" issue ONLY occuring when 1000 caches are selected ... no problems so far when 250, 500 or 750 caches are selected - same repeatable situation whether plug-ins are enabled or disabled. Will monitor the situation carefully but as other folks have reported the same issue, there must be a conflict with Firefox since there is no issue when 1000 caches are selected and using Chrome, on the same computer. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Further Firefox details: With 1000 caches selected and ALL add-ons (Extensions & Plugins) reset to DISABLED ... totally "white screen" still occuring when zooming map scale out (same whether using '+/-' buttons or rolling the mouse wheel) or manually dragging the map with the mouse. This is NOT occuring when 250, 500 or 750 caches are selected. Firefox add-ons for the record: EXTENSIONS: Adblock Plus Greasemonkey Kaspersky Protection NoScript - disabled PLUGINS: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Sisco Systems Widevine Content Decryption Modile provided by Google Shockwave Flash (32.0 r0) THEMES: Default - ENABLED Light - disabled Dark - disabled
  4. Recent improvements are very welcome ... but would like to know when the following issues will be resolved: (1) WHITE SCREEN of death using Firefox + Win10 - more or less everytime I move the map or change something - this is a HUGE issue with no feedback from the developers to even acknowledge there is a problem (2) FILTERS >> cache "TYPE" >> is MISSING CITO Events as a separate item - have to select all normal events and click through each to find the CITO! Bit at odds with the coming season for souvenirs! Thanks
  5. TOTALLY WHITE SCREEN with Firefox Quantum 64.0.2 (32-bit) and Windows 10 has been a problem for some considerable time. I reported it under the first Release Notes thread and later under this thread. Developers have never acknowledged the issue as far as I know - bit frustrating for sure as would be nice to know its on their to-do-list. This fault has never shown up when using Google Chrome. Someone mentioned about the problem appearing when 1000 caches were selected and dropping down to 250/500 seem to solve the problem for a short time, but it soon reverted and now if I move the map manually or pretty well do anything the 'white screen of death' appears again. When the white screen shows, I found by deleting everything in the URL box after ... https://www.geocaching.com/play/map the map screen is restroed, so if you see something like this: https://www.geocaching.com/play/map?lat=52.8235642726341&lng=-1.1873817443847656&zoom=14&asc=true&sort=distance then just delete the part shown in grey text and press return/enter. https://www.geocaching.com/play/map gets you back to the search map anytime.
  6. Link you are showing takes you to the excellant standard "Live" map, where you do see the very good OSM option - the new "search" map we are testing (https://www.geocaching.com/play/map) has only three map options: Geocaching, Google Street & Google Satellite.
  7. Look at the several posts immediatelty above - Google Map/Sat work ok with IE but Geocaching Map is blank
  8. Look at my post immediatelty above yours, answering same previous question - Geocaching Map is blank using IE, but Google Map & Sat work ok. Geo Map works ok with Firefox & Chrome
  9. Checked this for you with a Windows 10 PC ... Firefox and Chrome display the Geocaching Map correctly BUT using IE11, the GC Map is blank even though the caches show (also tried with 1000, 750, 500, 250 caches in the search as it crashes to a white screen when using 1000 caches with Firefox). Google Map & Google Satellite display perfectly ok. See screen shots:
  10. The original thread ("Release Notes (Website: Progressive release, new Search/Map) - September 14, 2018") contained all the issues raised so far in this new thread PLUS a whole lot more. Three questions: 1. Did GCHQ keep a note of issues / concerns / requests raised in the old thread and continuing to do so in this new thread? 2. Why was the old thread closed? Hopefully not an attempt to sidestep cachers genuine concerns! 3. The same issues come up over and over again, therefore must be legitimate concerns - it would be really helpful and reassuring if users had access to a list of items the developers are working through based on feedback. No one expects instant fixes but we need to know that concerns will be addressed eventually. As there is little feedback here from GCHQ, we have no idea whether or not our feedback is being taken into consideration by the developers.
  11. Really like the cache 'identification' feature ... i.e. place cursor over a cache on the list and a blue circle appears around that cache on the map. Makes it very easy to identify caches on the map. Is this new? haven't noticed it before!
  12. I'm still seeing this "bug" with Firefox Quantum ... are the developers aware of this bug and will it be resolved?
  13. BUG ... Totally WHITE SCREEN when ZOOMING-OUT on SEARCH MAP using Firefox Quantum On 8th December I noticed this bug for first time after it was described by another user ... the "white screen" happened when zooming-out on the map (Firefox Quantum 63.0.3 (32 bit) browser plus a Windows 10 Desktop PC). If I clicked the browser 'page refresh', the "Loading Caches" message and part of the upper background appeared briefly before returning to the "white screen" of death. Had to start from scratch in a new tab via "Play >> Search". Chrome did NOT show this issue. Latest "Map Search" update on 20th December followed a couple days after Firefox Quantum 64.0 (32 bit) browser update was applied. Hoped between the two updates this bug might have been resolved, but same "white screen" still occurs when the map is zoomed-out from the default level. If the "+/-" buttons are used to zoom-out, the "white screen" happens on/after the third click of the "-" button and same "white screen" appears when using the mouse wheel to zoom-out (again, third click). Tried clearing/disabling AdBlocker for the site and re-instated trackers, etc, but the problem persists. As earlier, the "white screen" does NOT occur when using Chrome, where I can zoom 'out/in' using "+/-" buttons or the mouse wheel to any zoom level without problem. Is anyone else experiencing this issue with Firefox?
  14. Thanks, my post was intended for the new map search thread so not sure how I put it here ... sorry!
  15. New BUG: when viewing the new search map on an iPhone7+ via a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari show the bug) ... not all “Filters” are displayed compared to using a Win10 PC. Only “Cache Type” and “Caches in a geo-tour” are accessible using the phone - cannot find any way to access the rest. See screen shot.
  16. I noticed same bug appear from this morning using Firefox Quantum 63.0.3 (32 bit). If I click page refresh the "loading caches" message and part of the background appears briefly before returning to a white screen. Also agree that Chrome does not seem to show the same bug. Only just found the selection bar for number of caches to be displayed ... why on earth is it part of a drop down menu in top right corner of the page? Not somewhere you would think to look, but I kept searching having reada few comments about the choice - couldn't see it in filters etc ... now I understand why!
  17. Assume heartradio and The A-Team are referring to the "Live Map" function ( e.g. https://www.geocaching.com/map/#?ll=54.42532,-3.90015&z=6 ), which is still available and working well - this extremly useful function DEFINITELY needs to be retained. For reasons given by both, I also use this to browse for potential caches in new areas - also useful for displaying caches you have found Vs unfound. When using the "Live Map", it makes you realise how restrictive, clunky and frustrating the new search map operates at present. GCHQ should use a selection of actual cachers to test such major changes ... perhaps that would curb some of the (poor) ideas being followed by developers of the new search map. None of the bugs / important changes needed / additional requests that I have logged so far on this forum have been mentioned by Brendon!!
  18. L4C found the correct number of caches within the particular folder of the app being searched ... I was just using that as an example. See my second example, which just talks about the new GC map feature - that post is more precise and relevant. The cache name search within the new map "filter" definitely does NOT carry out partial searches within words in the cache name - it is only looking at/from the beginning of each word (finds partials only from the start of words). My L4C app example was to show third party apps can manage partial searches within words, so why can the official website not be equally as cleaver!
  19. Amen to all that Gillala said - particularly about whether anyone reads and/or considers users (customers!) comments. Doesn't feel like it TBH! NEW BUG (to me) - "HOME" location is lost if map 'centre' is moved when using Windows 10 desktop PC On the first screen I select "Home" and "GO" (no filters involved) ... result: (1) Home location is correctly displayed on the map, together with local caches (owned caches NOT differentiated though, except on Google Mpa) (2) Move the map a short distance (couple of miles), then click the very useful "home" button ... (3) "Home" has now moved around 20 miles south of correct home co-ords and remains at this 'new'location even if 'home' button repeatadly clicked (4) To restore true "Home" location, I need to start again and re-select "Home" by clicking in main search box! This BUG seems to have appeared recently - fairly sure the home button worked ok initially. Appears because I'm using a Win 10 LAN Desktop PC without Wi-Fi, GCHQ are picking up some random location after the initial search! UPDATE 23/11/2018: Investigating the above issue further, appears that Windows 10 Desktop PCs using LAN connection (i.e. no gps or wi-fi available) defaults your PC's "Location" to that of your ISP/IP location (reading forums, my 20 miles error from true 'home' is modest!). Appears folks have been complaining for years that MS provide no facility to manually set location across all apps/browsers. I found a way to set correct home default location in MS-Maps, that then works fine using Edge browser - GC new map search running on Edge then correctly centers (i.e. same as 'Home') when you click main search box "Your Location" or the 'Home' button on right of map. However, I do not really want to use Edge regularly so guess until MS provide the option to manually set the PC's location, each time the map is moved you have to select "Home" in the main search box rather than clicking the 'home' button on the map. Different interpretations of 'home' are bit confusing.
  20. Further to Searchdog's example I set a similar map area then applied a 'Filter' to "cache name" search: (1) a complete word (2) start of a word within the cache name and (3) end of a word within the cache name (i.e. partial word search): (1) Filter by word "Prestwold" = 40 caches found (2) Filter by partial word "Prest" = 46 caches found (3) Filter by partial word "wold" = 6 caches found Difference in number between (1) and (2) is understandable as some caches in the area include the word "Prestonbrook" for example - it is the partial word which is not at the beginning that is the issue
  21. I use "Looking4Cache Pro" app on an iPhone7 ... this app works perfectly giving partial word matches. I have around 170 owned caches - including a series of 30 called "Prestwold Amble #xx" plus a few individual caches with 'Wold' (standalone word) or 'wold' (partial word) as part of the cache name. If I enter "wold" in the search box, it returns the complete 30 series of "Prestwold Amble #..." plus the standalone caches with 'Wold' or 'wold' as a full word or partial work. I would have hoped for geocaching.com's new map search to be as good as my third party app. Perhaps I'm expecting too much from GCHQ .....
  22. NO. It works. Keyword is "Hamburg": HHL - Hans ... you are searching for "Hamburg", so yes it finds any caches containing a word within the cache name starting with "Hamburg". You try the same search but enter "burg" ... only caches STARTING with a word beginning with "burg" will be displayed (probably find none). The problem is their search cannot find partial words like any normal search engine.
  23. (1) When viewing "Filters" on an iPhone 7 Plus (i.e. large screen) in portrait, using any browser (e.g. Safari/Chrome), the "Sort by ..." feature is NOT displayed at all - have to turn phone 90 degrees to landscape to see the sort list menu (Bug) ... (2) Ref Han's HHL comment on "Geocache name contains ..." - I have confirmed partial word search in cache name is NOT working on both Win 10 PC and iPhone ... it only searches for START of a cache name.
  24. HHL - Hans said: This is now possible. ? Re HHL (Hans) ... Partial name search is not working for me when tested again 11/11/2018 ...
  25. Further testing has picked-up following issues from user's point of view: (1) Owned caches are NOT identified with owner's "star" icon on Geocaching map (shows normal icon) BUT Google Road & Satellite Maps DO display as "star" (bug) (2) User's choice of map should be "remembered" (requested feature) (3) "Sort" choice for 'List' of caches is too limited (i.e. Favourites, Newest, Oldest) - definitely needs two "Distance" choices: (a) from 'Home' and (b) from current 'Map Centre' (requested feature) (4) After selecting "Filters" should NOT automatically revert to list - when satisfied with choices on the map, the user should manually click 'finished' (requested feature) (5) 'Filter' search box: "Geocache name contains..." only searches using beginning of a word, not within a word in the cache name (e.g. name = 'Prestwold Amble #27' - finds caches with 'Pres' but not 'wold' (bug) I hope the development team are reading and noting user's comments! Better still accept the suggested changes!!
