  1. I'm getting the same error using Firefox, which is up to date on Windows. Every time I start a new session to log my finds, the very first log I enter gives me this error message. I have to make sure I copy the text I wrote because it will get lost. Clicking the post button again later with this message does not clear the error. I need to refresh the page and re enter the text. I have no problems with subsequent logs after this initial attempt. For me this has been happening ever since it was updated to the new format.
  2. A question about lonely caches. I'm trying to get a feel on if a cache is considered lonely if its been checked by its owner, but not found for years. The example would be that a cache was last found in 2018, but it was checked by the owner in early 2020. Is this cache considered 1 year or 3 years lonely? Now to add confusion to the mix, how to you if it was checked by a previous finder instead of the CO? I think its 3 years lonely in both cases. There is no prize or glory that I can see other than possibly for some early challenge cache that I am not aware of. And likely the glory is in my own mind. I am just curious what the consensus is.
  3. This was happening on both my phone and Windows7. In both cases it did not go away and it made it hard to see what I just typed as the popup would hide the text underneath. I do not have access to a Windows10 machine to try it. I do not have any friends set up in my geocaching account. I first saw it on my phone and I almost never use my phone to log finds (just FTFs as a courtesy to other local cachers) so I didn't think much of it. To me it was just another quirk using the mobile version of Firefox/geocaching.com combination.
  4. I think Hügh is correct. It is the @ sign that is causing it. The first time when I saw this behaviour on my phone it was also "FTF @ (time)". Even as I type this, if I enter "@ <space>" it comes up with suggestions, but as I continue to type, it goes away. When I do the same action writing a log, the suggestions keep popping up.
  5. I'm using the latest Firefox (recently upgraded) on Windows7. When log my finds, I keep getting suggestions for text. I can hit escape to clear it but it keeps coming back. Anyone else seeing it? Not sure if its the geocaching website or Firefox. Firefox on my phone (Android) is doing the same thing. Its only happening when I log a find. My notes section does not seem affected. Any suggestions on how to clear it?
  6. I agree. I asked a similar thing last July. The option to have the notifications apply to only unfound caches. https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/357505-notification-feature-request-foundnot-found-option/ If I want to monitor a found cache, I can always add it to my watch list. I suppose I could do the same with unfound caches, but I want a general monitoring of caches that I could be looking for in the future, and not have to add every unfound cache to my watchlist.
  7. Just to follow up and close off on this, and having someone else avoid egg on their face, They were in my spam folder . On Yahoo mail, the spam folder does not show the number of unread messages, unlike my non-caching email domain that does show unread counts. I'll give credit to the fine folks at Geocaching.com and Yahoo.com for looking to it.
  8. My geocaching email is on the Yahoo domain, and I have not received any emails from geocaching.com in the last 4 days. In that time, I have generated a few PQs. I have notifications for new caches. From the map I can see that at least 1 new cache has been placed. No emails for either. I've been in contact with geocaching.com and Yahoo's Postmaster, and geocaching.com (through a non Yahoo account). GC.com suggested I contact Yahoo. Yahoo suggested having GC confirm if its yahoo domain related or just me and suggested GC.com open a ticket on my behalf. I forwarded that email to geocaching.com, and got a canned response back on my yahoo account that they received my email. So I can receive emails from contact@geocach... but not from noreply@ geocach.... Anyone else using the Yahoo domain not receiving emails?
  9. New cache types may not play nice with GPSr's. On the Garmin Oregon 600, I believe cache types are hard coded. If they are not, I haven't figured out how to add new cache type. Any cache types other than the 11 standard types show up as a treasure chest.
  10. Sorry, my bad. Giga is not a usable cache type. It was Mega and CITO that I changed to different symbols.
  11. I suspect that the 11 cache types are hard coded in the Garmin units (At least for my Oregon 600, and APE is not one of them). When the unit encounters a cache type it does not recognize, it defaults to the treasure chest. I have made alternate symbols for Giga and Mega cache (and Found) types. They are displayed on the map as the alternate symbol. but hen I go to the cache filter screen on my GPS, the original symbols show up in the selection menu. I tried to create a new cache type and include a alternate symbol like I have for the Giga and Mega, but it still defaults to the treasure chest. I can see this being one of the main reason GS does not want to create new cache types, it will not display properly on millions of GPSrs out there without a firmware upgrade. If you figure out how to make it work, I too would be interested on knowing to do it.
  12. Sorry for the confusing postings. I just want to be notified about caches that I have not found, whether it be unattempted or DNF'd. Once the cache is a smiley (Found), I don't want any more notifications about it. For example, a CO posts a log/Note on the cache page that he will be removing it in the near future. I want the notification about that cache if I never attempted or found it. I don't want that notification if I found it in the past.
  13. That is correct. I want notifications on caches I have not attempted. If I have logged a DNF then I add it to my watch list manually.
  14. I agree with MartyBartfast, "Didn't find it" means the notification comes when someone logs a DNF. All the checked options refer to log types. As for ecanderson's suggestion about putting all unfound caches on my watchlist... That is a lot of work. Firstly just to set up the 2000+ unfound caches around me, and then to maintain them by having to remove them when I find them, and adding it each time a new cache is published. To much work for little payoff. An option on the notification page would be much easier to maintain and lets the server do the work.
  15. Would it be possible for the powers that be to add a button or option on the Notifications page to whether to include Found/Not Found caches as part of the notification criteria. Every time I get a notification, my OCD has me check to see if I found that cache or not. I prefer to get notifications on caches I have not found only. Once I find a cache, I tend to move on, although there are a few caches I still like to 'follow', but those get put on my watch list. Thanks for reading.
  16. I never noticed the copy feature! That makes thing a little easier. With the count though, it gives the number of caches when PQing a circle/area, but not for a route. " Thanks! Your query has been modified. You can preview the search here." I'd still like to see all the caches selected as a default instead of just one checkbox at the top of the box, though. Its helpful for new routes. (and has there been any consideration of having of more than just the last 5 logs in the PQ?) Thanks, You guys have been helpful.
  17. Can you do that with a route? Even with a circle, I find if I change the PQ name, the previous PQ disappears from the list. In either case, I'll typically do 2 or 3 circles or routes with different date ranges.
  18. Greetings, When going on a trip, I'll generate several PQs. One type I don't want included are Unknown cache types since its very unlikely to be solved, and I don't want them included in the 1000 limit. I find it repetitive for each new PQ I create, I have to always manually select most of the other cache types. Would it be possible of instead of having the 'Any cache type' box at the top selected by default, have all the cache types within the box selected? This way I could simply unselect the unknown cache type. (The likelihood of the APE and GPS Adventures caches adding to my limit is very low, so I'd leave them clicked) Also, could you fix it so when you edit the Date Placed date boxes, the date radio button gets selected automatically, instead of having to do it manually. Since I have your ear, one last thing. When you Submit a PQ for a trial run (but not selected a date to run) can you have it spit out the count, instead of having to go to 'Map these caches' to find the number of caches. (Usually I'm adjusting my circle or figuring out how wide to make my route). Thanks for considering these improvements.
  19. niraD, Didn't see that forum. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm sure a moderator will move this topic soon enough.
  20. This posting is aimed at the Lackeys. (If its been asked or discussed to death, then delete this thread. I've haven't been on this forum for a long time, and I have no desire to read 8+ years of topics.) Since the discussion forum for User Insights are locked, I'll ask here. Two years ago you asked for feedback on what improvements we would like to see with PQs (actually GPX, but it takes a PQ to generate a GPX file). What became of it? Can you Lackeys seriously consider changing the number of logs in a PQ from 5 to 10 or 15? I can't see it being a major effort since you're not changing the structure of the GPX file or PQ, just including more logs. Even better would be to add a field on the PQ setup page to select number of logs. Have a default setting of 5 for backward compatibility. When I can't find a cache, I go through the logs in my GPSr for hints and it sucks when there are only five and one of the logs makes a reference to a another log that helped them, or last 5 logs were two word logs. I have no desire to start using GSAK to accomplish this. Having GSAK running on my machine updating every cache in my local database, most of which I won't visit in the next week or let alone the next month doesn't seem the most efficient use of my or GS's resources. Do you guys have any statistics on the interactions between GSAK and your servers? Maybe this will help to alleviate this. Thanks for listening. Flame suit on.
