  1. Feel a bit dense now, it was a puzzle cache hence not marked on the map...lol... took a while to figure out mind.
  2. Nope not that one...guess its not archived then (btw how do you search archived ones??)
  3. Ive found a cache that I can see on this site, which is odd as I must of had the coords to find it in the first place and this is the only place I can get them from. Im wondering if its archived for some reason. It is in Compton Nr Winchester in the close area of : http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...5c-cba7ffb642d9 and http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...87-8996cd5f1146 Has anyone else come accross it?? (it had a fair few music cd's in it)
  4. Ive come across some imaginative ones, from various rubber animals to fake stones. All put a smile on our faces...
  5. Wouldnt be so sure, its meant to use up to date data but mine is forever telling me caches are inactive when they aren't so I wouldnt rely on the data being 100% accurate. It done it 3 times to me a day ago!!
  6. I dont tend to log a DNF until I feel I have searched adequately. Some searches have been called off due to weather, other commitments or perhaps inappropriate footwear. I will return usually within a week or two for another thorough look. If I still dont find it, then Ill log a DNF.
  7. I found my first 50 odd with the iphone and found it quite capable. I still use it now alongside dedicated GPS and while its not as accurate it gets you plenty close enough with a hint to find a cache.
  8. Like this you mean? http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...9&hl=gcvote Well yes just like that really but integrated on this site...lol
  9. I have a suggestion....how about a rating system being implemented whereby when you log your fin you can also rate the cache quality or maybe a few things, quality of the hide, the area etc.. This way the cachers have an opportunity to in effect advise fellow cachers of what to expect. Then when searching you can knock of the low quality ones in required with a filter. Perhaps some guidelines on how to rate may help, you get the idea...??
  10. I just read through and, yup...your right. Over sensitive and over reacting to peoples 'comments' as thats all they are. People commented on the Geese and their actions but I didnt see one complaint...
  11. The one under the M27 near the airport looks pretty hard...dont have the number off hand.
  12. Some of the finders may have covered it with an umbrella whilst looking through...just trying to think positive!!
  13. Same for me to, as a side issue Im finding the app is reporting alot of caches as inactive when they are listed as active on the main site. Happened a fair bit over the last week.
  14. 1. The compass is magnetic (for all except the Oregon 200). 2. The x50 compared to the x00 : 3D compass (don't have to lie flat to use), more geocaches (5000 max. instead of 2000), slightly different (and, in my opinion, better) user interface, USB 2.0 instead of USB 1.1. 3. Your 300 is either overpriced, or the 550 extremely cheap. I'd definitely pay the extra £50. Don't have any experience with the other units, so I can't comment. I'd get a Garmin because they're by far the biggest right now, and there's a lot of 3rd party support (maps, software, mounts, etc.) Can't do much about your UK weather The 550 was £287 ($431) but sounds woth the extra...
  15. And as a "genuine" cacher who has never armchaired, I would say you are wrong. I am not wrong, I was stating my opinion. An opinion is just that, therefore neither right or wrong.
  16. From what I can see in the comparison list theres not really much difference through the range from the 300 to the 550 apart from a camera on the latter. Having said that after a quick look about the 550 is only £50 more than the 300... Is the compass magnetic, thats something I like about the iphone, I dont have to move for the compass to work!? Are there any other makes/models worth a look or are Oregons considered the Daddy of GPS in this sort of price range? (As for the screen in sunlight...Im in the UK...lol)
  17. Another tip would be to read previous logs, just in case more hints can be found if you get really stuck...
  18. Sounds like a nice bit of kit, Im a bit of a Gadget fest type person, if it has lights and buttons I want it. The Legend will go to the kids so they have one to share.
  19. Ive seen that thread I got the maps on my Legend Hcx, finally got it all working how i wanted last night (turn by turn, hints, decentish) I do like the Oregon, looks quite nice, this was all started by seeing the Garmin Colorado 400t somewhere...lol
  20. Liking the Atlas Maker, whats the difference between T and non T??
  21. I havent done any EC's yet (will be doing my first later today). I understand the argument for a photo, I can also loosely understand the privacy issue of no photo. For me, personally...I would submit a photo to prove to others that I have been there and the cache owner and I would do this not because it is required but out of choice. I think the CO deserves to see real proof and if they can go to the time and effort of setting one up then I can make the effort to upload a picture. I think having the choice separates the genuine from the not, a genuine cacher will probably upload a picture, those that don't will probably be assumed to be armchair cachers. Thats my take on the situation anyway!
  22. Im pretty new to GC and am already thinking....hmmm that looks much nicer than mine when looking at pictures. (Garmin 300 something or other) So Im toying with upgrading to a unit that : Has decent looking maps (and lists Byways Open To All Traffic if poss. for off roading) Touch Screen would be nice. Can be used as normal satnav. Can show GC data, tips, description, logs the whole shebam!! Record field notes. Look nice....lol So either suggestions or a link to a table listing units/features to make comparisons would be handy. Budget...hmm well that depends on the unit and features I guess, maybe around £2-300 (new or 2nd hand, not fussed).
  23. Yh i see your point on that one especially after seeing the cash near minehead with a series of 106 or something! But I just like the general ideal of knowing how experienced someone is, maybe a rank instead 0-100 XXX, 100-500 XXX etc...
