  1. Simple answer: Host a First To Find Event: Each cacher has hidden one or more caches these "are" approved by a reviewer as good to go but they are set to be published one week after the event giving everyone a chance to be first. This idea came locally from FunkyNassau. It makes for a fun event.
  2. Hello Geocachers, I am seeing more and more caches that in my opinion should be Mystery caches being posted as Traditional hides. These caches include having to do math, complete a puzzle, solve something, etc. These are fine for puzzle caches, IMHO. Traditional caches are said to be find the cache, sign log, done. Where as a puzzle requires the users get additional requirements in order to get credit either before or at the scene. If I am wrong then why do we have challenges and night caches as mysteries with their A.L.R. status? I am hoping for reviewer opinion (esp. Cache Tech - Cache Agent) Examples: Traditionals cube cache (Cacher must get a ball to a spot to unlock door on a container to access logsheet) http://coord.info/GC3XR6H BYOB A cache for Jim52 and Hillbilly Bob (You must bring your own battery then wire a circuit correctly) http://coord.info/GC3AM15 2ool Tyme Too http://coord.info/GC3M91J Setup as a Mystery, as I would expect them to be! ? Tool Time http://coord.info/GC3AKY3 Thanks for any insight. Misha

    Archived Wherigo

I downloaded a Cartridge proceeded but I didn't locate the cache. When I went to place my log realized that this was archived can the status be shown on the Wherigo site? The Wherigo link: http://www.Wherigo.com/cartridge/details.aspx?CGUID=5046b0b8-9600-49fc-a116-3cf1a31e0fde the GC link: http://coord.info/GC2G1EQ
  4. I would like to have two buttons on the messages within a thread that would permit us to like or dislike any message rather than having to reply and extend any given thread with another response just to add your support or disapproval of any comment ot statement. Thank you, Misha
  5. Dear Groundspeak, I accept your changes, but please find some fashion to permit use of aerial acquired base map photography within the geocache mapping environment. I am unsure if Microsoft is charging for their Bing Maps, but those are great, and locally are using a very nice 15cm (6 inch) pixel resolution. For now I will be using Cacheye 1.3 which uses Bing maps mated with GSAK outputted query. The old Google maps were nearly perfect quick and efficient. Please solve this. 6. Is using a USB key as a logbook in a traditional cache permissible? Under the listing guidelines is this type of logbook legal? "3.0 Geocache Contents Cache containers include a logsheet. For all physical caches, there must be a logbook, scroll or other type of log for geocachers to record their visit." Plus I am reluctant to stick shared foreign objects in my computer it might get a disease either from its origin or the other users. The cache that I am questioning http://coord.info/GC37V1K Can I log stating that I forgot to bring my PC?
  7. A few years back I was hiding a cache, on a wooded perimeter of a school property. It was about 300 meters from the school building. My hide was not permitted by CacheAgent. Now, I been out seeking caches in the same city and they have been hidden on school property in places like gas utility, power utility, play ground equipment, on property signs stairs etc. Are schools, public buildings, daycares, and the like open for hides or not. These schools all have no trespassing signs on their grounds, but not their woods. All I want is the same rules to apply everywhere, that is except where local laws exceed the GC rules. Maybe reviewers should be using better maps that show accurate data like this free viewer http://geonb.snb.ca/geonb/
  8. If you can physically sign the log can the owner place rules on the cache? "NOTE: I will delete the logs of those who have not met the challenge conditions. Thank you!!" Is this permitted? Mike
  9. I have assembled databases in GSAK for several provinces and states in the North East. It make it easy to travel, because it is ready to download to my sensor. I have run into an issue though, I've unknowingly ended up searching for archived sites, that of course, just were not there, how demoralizing! I would like to find a macro that would reference the GC database as accessible in GSAK. I would prefer it to tag or to delete the archived (unfound) sites from my DB. Thank you Misha

  11. I would think being a reviewer would suck at times. They have to deal with people who are focused at one result "getting there page published now." They may come across as sharp edged, but it is likely that they are very busy volunteers, YES, I said they are unpaid and they keep going with our ridicule and criticisms. Yes I have been less nice to them than I should have been. Therefore, I now relax and let my sites be published on their schedule and by their criteria as GC warrants. Please take it easy on them, they are there for us. Misha
  12. Hi, This is a website issue. The date format is not consistent between the editing page and the rest of the system when using the popup calendar function. The edit cache page enters June 3/2010 as03/06/2010 where as the remainder of the system is in the format MM/DD/YYYY or 06/03/2010. Can someone please fix it so I don't have to choose March 6, 2010 to get the right date. Thank you Misha
  13. It looks like all pages has been deleted from the site... so we just have to wait for the pages being restored from a backup. If it fails to return try this: http://nmgeocaching.com/check.php
  14. Is it possible to set-up a mirror system that could satisfy the query needs of the Google Earth Geocaching KML?
  15. The problem not too many ISPs assign specific IP addresses. Here in the Aliant system we have 2 IP address' (one primary, and a second as a backup) for the ISP. there are more than 500 geocachers on this ISP, so you likely counted one user (The primary IP address) now that gives you really accurate numbers, yeah right. Eastlink (another ISP in the same area, more than 200 geocachers) is set-up the same way, I expect that many other ISPs are setup in a similar fashion. Please bring back the KML Misha Moncton, NB; Canada
  16. Please, Please, Please, Bring back the KML Google earth tool. That was so useful, I used it for planning hides, Checking for cool places to go and see, Figuring how to access sites without trespassing over private property (I guess Groundspeak wants us to search from the ground and release several extra tonnes of CO2 on our trips, Oh well there goes the Planet) Steam released Take care Misha
  17. Yes, I just emailed them the second time. I posted here incase someone might know them. Thanks Misha

  20. With all due respect, these guys are not morons.... They use intelligent judgment. If they went around thinking every container found anywhere at any time could be a bomb, they would spend eternity blowing up garbage. They obviously evaluate with common sense first. ROFLMAO Misha
  21. This makes me feel that a micro or a nano might cure this issue. It is less likely to be as suspect compared to small and regular sized caches. With that said, it doesn't excuse the fact that it was approved while it was hidden in a transit station. Misha

    Rights

Hello Geocachers; We deserve the right to review moderators! We deserve the right to review the reviewers! We deserve the right to elect the board of governors! We deserve the right to review our rules! People please stand up for your rights! It should be through a standard form vote, not random mumblings in email. This organization is not democratic it is a dictatorship, and that must change. M
  24. I guess I over stepped a bit far, CT I will avoid put downs directed at any cacher here on this forum.
  25. I have access to the Provinical survey plans (Cadastral Data), as well as sensitive fauna, flora, eco-systems, contact info for all property and much more. These I can use, not distribute. I was asking because from comments made their reference must be out of date by some time. converting from UTM can be done using a free demo copy of FME, it can effecently convert to nad83 lat & long a demo lasts 2 weeks Misha
