  1. I vote for selling them at GeoWoodstock, I'll be there and definitely want one of these coins.
  2. My visits.txt file had the cache name in the first field instead of the GC code. I had noticed on my notebook that in GSAK I had that change and don't know how it happened. I had used the notebook to load the caches instead of using my desktop which I usually use. I'll have to figure out how to get the right info in the GC column on my notebook but for now as long as I use the desktop, my problem is solved. So even though it indicated it was a date problem, that was not the case.
  3. I'm trying to use fetch caches from the GPSr from the publish menu as I always have. This time it is telling me "there were no caches selected to fetch. Perhaps your "date" before needs adjusting". I tried changed the date under settings menu to a year ago (ignore any before 11/2012) and that didn't work. I removed the check mark from Ignore items before a date so it should be looking at all of them - that didn't work. I had done an update to the Oregon 450T before we went caching this afternoon that was an update to the Daylight Savings Time map. I have GSAK on a desktop and on a notebook that I take with us. I've received the same error on both computers. Thankfully we only got 11 caches this afternoon so I could do them all manually with pulling individual caches into the Publish Logs menu and editing and publishing from there, but HELP I want it to pull them from the GPSr. I have a visits.txt file that has the correct time that we found the last cache today so I believe it is accurate. I changed the batteries in the GPSr since I know they are low and just picked a random cache and said it was found and the visits.txt log file updated to the current time but I still received the same error that there were no caches to fetch. Any help would be appreciated. sandy caching name sandyd
  4. Thank you for the very concise explanation. My book and coin arrived earlier this week and I will thoroughly enjoy learning more about the hobby (way too many geocoins at my house) I so much enjoy. sandy Not to France particularly, no, but the French language is the only one I know that has a word with this particular meaning. I'll try to explain... The word memoire doesn't have a direct translation to the English language. It doesn't mean memory or memories or a recording of memories even. Memoire has changed slightly over the last few hundred years, but at it's core it encompasses a number of ideals similar to a thesis, but far more fluid. A memoire is a shared presentation of ideas, opinions, and supporting facts and/or data that explain how one arrives at their conclusions. I chose a word that embodies the idea that the ideas expressed in the idea art NOT solid proven theory or fact. The writing in this volume in fact shows how NOT to do a lot of things. It's impossible for any crafter to aquire skill in their chosen profession without making mistakes along the way. This book shares what to do, what not to do, what I've done, what I should have done and most importantly it launches a platform for discussion on what could be done in future designs. It's not unlike what used to be presented in the Public Forums of Rome. An idea or series of ideas is presented and a logical conclusion is presented for argument for or against by a person's peers. I want everyone to question what my conclusions are. I hope I'm right in most, I hope I'm wrong in some and that your response to reading of my conclusions will educate us all to reach greater accomplishments. My biggest concern in presenting this kind of work is that anyone would take the findings as concrete law. The greatest lesson I've learned is that design is a idea that grows. What is true today is not true tomorrow. As you read from the beginning of the book to the end you'll see my standings and opinions change so that what I believe in the first few stories won't actually hold by the final page. This is the idea of a memoire. I'm telling of experience from my personal view that is fluid, malleable and most importantly open to change as experiences shape me. These are my hypothesis, but I hope you'll see what I saw in the process of growth and I really want to hear your thoughts, too. No one has ever written a book on geocoin design and I believe that little can be accomplished by saying designs should only be this way, that way or in the way I imagine. I'm constantly seeing a coin and thinking "Why didn't I think of that?" or "I should have used that for that coin two designs back!" You guys sharing ideas here is how I learned to begin with. So, no connection to France other than a really accurate word to describe this endeavor.
  5. Is there a connection with France that you used a French spelling of memories? Sandy
  6. Are any individual hedgehogs available for purchase? thank you
  7. [Could you give us the etsy name for the person you selected, please??
  8. I find geocoins beautiful and increasingly more expensive. I've decided that I will make proxies of mine and send them out into the world and keep the originals. I have found that they get moved and don't disappear. It is always nice to find a real geocoin in a cache but I hope as I move them that they will stay active. If one of mine goes missing, it isn't a big loss. If a real one goes missing, it is at least a $10 loss. If cachers choose to leave the proxy in a cache or just discover it, I understand. I don't understand when a real coin goes missing and by sending out the proxy, I don't have to be concerned about it. I purchased a bunch of the dog tag like proxy tags earlier this year before the web site that made them folded so I now just have two laminated items keychained together - a two sided photo of the coin and a business card size tag with the name of the coin, the tracking number and the usual tracking instructions.
  9. Email sent. I hope there is one left. sandy
  10. I haven't checked this board for awhile so I didn't vote, but I agree with the vote. Now, when can we buy one or two???? thank you. sandy
  11. You are very privileged to have been chosen by that awesome creature. I hope his token will be available soon so we mere mortals can remember his appearance.
  12. I know many people object to proxies, but when I spend about $10 apiece on a coin, I figure, a proxy is fine to send out in the wild. A group meets for coffee every week so I take the original to coffee so anyone from the group can discover the original, but it's a laminated color photo that is attached to a description tag that then goes out into the wild.
  13. I'll take the set of 4 Christmas coins. Will you be at the bonfire?
  14. I've had one of those safari vests for years and now I have it filled with all the above mentioned items. The only problem is remembering in which of the thousand pockets the right item is. When it's time to go caching, I don my vest and head out!
  15. Cool 3 left. Then I am taking a break! email sent
