  1. Ok.....well I changed my datum on the gps to nad27. Then I went to add a waypoint. The coordinates came up 35Degrees02.590N 089Degrees43.214W. I was going to edit the waypoints to what I need to go to this weekend and the maps datum are 34 54 11.7 N 88 10 01.8 .......So how do I enter the coordinates I need to enter when they don't match the format that's displayed on the gps even when the correct datum is setup to match the waypoints on the map? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm trying to get this set up tonight so tomorrow I can play with it some out on the water to make sure I can locate the areas I'm looking for. Thanks. -lee-
  2. Hey everyone, I have a magellan sport trak pro color and magellan mapsend topo software. I am trying to enter some waypoints off of a map that is marked with coordinates for some points under water that I want to find for the purposes of fishing. The datum of the map is 1927 North American datum. The software datum is listed as U.S. The format for the datum appears the same. Can someone verify that this is correct? Also does anyone here use hot spot fishing software? I am wondering if I will really gain anything by purchasing it over just entering waypoints off of a topo map that has fishing spots located on it? Thanks. -lee-
  3. Thanks for the help guys. It worked like a charm! -lee-
  4. thanks for the help guys. I'm going to try that when I get home. I didn't know that there was an online manual. That thing will come in real handy. Thanks again. -lee-
  5. Hey everyone, I have a magellan sport trak pro color and I was wondering if there is a way to turn off the chime that it makes when you push any of the buttons? I'm using it for hunting and would like something that is completely quiet. -lee-
  6. Thanks alot compucash! It was the sync program that had it blocked from detecting it. I've already set up down loading my way points and up loading my maps with way points. Thanks again! -lee-
  7. Hey everyone, I have a magellan sport trak pro color and a mapsend topo map that I am wanting to download my waypoints to the computer and then upload the maps. The problem is it says I have to set up the gps for the first time and when I tell it to find the gps it says that com 1 is busy and com3 it won't find the gps. I have the computer plugged into the gps/computer well and the gps is on. Any ideas? -lee-
  8. It always happens to me. I bought a sporttrak pro color last week and paid $235 from tigergps.com. Oh well I'm happy with my purchase anyway. -lee-
  9. mine has been doing that ever since new. I finally gave up and just went to a magelan sport trak color. I had all kinds of trouble with reception and it turning itself off. Mine was one of the original vistas so it may have had a problem since it was new but I just finally got tired of fighting it. To be honest before I found this site I never would have thought of sending it back to garmin because of poor experience with other companies returning for repair. But from what I've read on here Garmin does a good job of repair/warranty work. Heck I may still just send it back to have a spare unit. -lee-
  10. Hey everyone, I bought a Magellan Sport trak color last week and have a question. I have used it to navigate through the woods to and from way points when hunting. I have a kind of dumb question but I just don't know the answer. I have a topo map of a lake that I fish some in the summer. It has about 100 waypoints on it as "hot spots" along with the coordinates. My question is how can I enter the coordinates as a way point and have them guide me there without actually being in that spot and marking it as a waypoint? I have ordered the topo mapsend software to use when hunting and I don't know if it will help me with this problem. Can someone explain to me what I need to do? I am considering purchasing a gps/depth finder for my boat but they are very expensive(1500-2000) and I don't think I'll get enough use out of it to justify it. I'ld prefer to use my handheld to get me to the area and then use my existing depth finder to locate the underwater structure(mostly humps and stumps). Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks. -lee-
  11. Actually I was fortunate enough to take a 10 point deer this morning. I used the sport trak after I found it to mark my position so I could go get a four wheeler and take it to the deer. Unlike the other two gps units I've had this one works where the others didn't. I really think I'm going to like this thing. -lee-
  12. I have read some about geocaching but to be honest I don't quite know what all it is about. I may look in to it some after deer season is over. I'm also considering a gps enabled fish finder for our bass boat so I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions before I buy one of those. -lee-
  13. Thanks for the welcome guys. I found this site a while back but had some trouble getting registered. I never received an email to authenticate my username so I re-registered as leeinmemphis2 and it worked fine. I used the gps a little today while looking for a deer that I had shot. It worked in the woods just like I wanted it to. I think I'm going to be very happy with it. This is actually my 3rd gps. I have had a magellan 315 and garmin etrex vista. I bought both of those a long time ago when they both first came out and to be honest I didn't like the 315 and the vista has been nothing but trouble since I have had it. So I was a bit skeptical about getting another one but the sport trak color worked perfect for me. I have alot of learning but I used it to waypoint a couple of points today and used it to get back there when I needed to and that is 95% of what I want it to do. thanks again. -lee-
  14. Hey everyone, Well the inevitable happened last weekend. I got lost at night while looking for a doe that my buddy had shot while hunting. My family has owned this place for over 10 years and I've never had a problem with it during the day but the place really looked totally different in the dark. After about a half hour we found our way out but it still got me to thinking that I needed to pick up a decent gps. As soon as I got home last weekend I looked around online and bought a Magellan sport trak color. I really think this will be a great hunting tool. Along with the gps I also ordered a topo map program and a dvd to show me how to use it. I can't wait until tomorrow to see how it does under the tree cover. From what I read this is one of the better units to work under the canopy of trees.(I hope they were right). -lee-
