  1. Please have a donut! Those threads are now closed to help stop the bashing.
  2. Groundspeak's Geocaching will always be the forefather of the sport. You can't take that away from them. With Garmin coming online with OpenCaching.com will be similar to TerraCaching (which has an unknown future at the time) and OpenCaching.Us. Those two sites have been around since 2003 and Garmin's OpenCaching.com just opened up in October 2010. Groundspeak has a 10 year lead over the other sites. These debates and comments are more like the iPhone verus the Android phones. iPhone came out first and did a lot of great things but the Android's came a long and offered a better evolving product that has been giving Apple a run for their money. The same could be said about Geocaching.com and OpenCaching.com. Only time will tell for each site. the spirit of competition if a great thing. It gets both sides to fix things and to make things better for their communities. There is always resistance in the beginning of a new site and the struggles of the first year of operations. I am more that sure the Groundspeak knows as they had to go through this also. But I wouldn't underestimate Garmin. They have been a player in the Geocaching world since the beginning. The internet is a huge place and there is PLENTY of room for ALL sites to co-exist. People can pick and choose where they want to go and they will go where they fill comfortable being. Many fellow cachers will continue to be negative towards other geocaching sites. My question to all of you is, why can't you do both or all of them? Maybe you just feel comfortable staying with one site and that is fine and your choice. But bickering about OpenCaching versus Geocaching is a lot of energy that could be used somewhere else. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions as I am stating mine right now. Some people will ignore the other sites because this is the original, larger site and it's more popular. That's cool too. But don't always be a follower. You can pick and choose where you want to go. The last time I read bashing threads like this was on TerraCaching about Groundspeak. Because of that, I won't even waste my time over there. Sometimes people act out of fear or because they feel threatened. Maybe that is why so many are voicing their opinions about OpenCaching? Why are people feeling threatened by that site? It's the big "What If" questions in life that scare us the most. Will OpenCaching take out Geocaching? No it will not, but I for see that it will give it a run for its money. The bottom line is, you have two companies doing something that is driven by money. But which one has more to lose and which one has more to gain? That is the basis of this entire thread and like many other threads on this topic. No need to hate, just step back and look at things. Go where you want to go and just be happy with it
  3. Think of how many Geocachers worldwide are playing this sport/game with this app that is in question by a select few? Think about how many of these Geocachers using this app are paying for premium memberships? Think about how many of these Geocachers/players would possible stop playing this game if the c:geo app was stopped? IMO, the people who are slinging to TOS statement against c:geo to help draw attention to their statements and is more about economic roots. In my local area there are MANY geocachers who have android phones who have both purchased the official geocaching app from Groundspeak and also use the free app by c:geo. Time and time again, many of the local cachers that I associate with prefer the c:geo app over the official app. Why is that? I will tell you why, they state that it seems to work a lot better in their opinions and they like how it functions. I've even asked many of them if they would stop geocaching if the c:geo app was blocked? Many of them, to also include myself say yes. I think the official app is a clone of what c:geo is offering for the Android systems. If anything, both sides should work together to make the geocaching community stronger. If anything, Groundspeak is following Apple's way of forcing you to pay for everything so you can utilized their products. So I guess that double standards are exceptable since the official released app works in the similar manner as the c:geo app. The app that each cacher uses is their choice. It shouldn't be about controlling the market for economic gain. Look at all of the other caching sites that emerge out of things like this. Granted not all will make it and/or die off but one day....one just might succeed and change how things are being operated.
  4. I am good with it too. The app is great and works very well.
  5. I'd like to see them so I can soo who else might have an issue with a cache. It's good info.
  6. I haven't seen any caches in cemeteries in Vegas but after reading this NRS 452.300 Unlawful to make or open road through cemetery or deposit material within cemetery without consent; penalties I can see why not
  7. [reference to unauthorized application removed by moderator] but I long await, like everyone else, for the app from the iPhone to make it over to the Droid.
  8. [Endorsement of unauthorized application removed by moderator.]
  9. This is very true. I did a search in here and I didn't find anything on the Droid. But I will keep looking.
  10. Any word on when there will be an application that is just like the iPhone's app for the Droid?
  11. I am thinking of some odd ball and unique locations to place 5 Geocaches here in Vegas.
  12. Hi, I am Charles. My wife JennSweetGirl and I just started Geocaching a few days ago. We found 3 on Sunday and 5 today here in Las Vegas, NV.
