  1. I would say it depends where you live. (Duh) Folks out in the sticks have to travel alot farther, and mules only go so fast. My personal best was a week ago, 54. In Lodi, California where there are over 300 in a 10 mile square area. The Mecca of geocaching? Hmmmmm....... "We only cache during the daylight hours." I knew there were Vampire Cachers..As well as Wherewolves, Gobilns, etc.
  2. Hey, has anyone ever found a cache before it was listed? Well, I did a few days ago. On my lunch break, I went to scout an area for a future hiding place. I parked, and walked over near a End of road barrier, and looked around. Looked in the tree'e behind it, but did not see a good spot. Then I noticed some support peices of wood at the bottom of the main posts. One looked like it might be loose, so I pulled it off, to see if I could maybe carve it out for cache placement. I look, and whats this? A painted mint tin inside. Now, for a second, I thought maybe I had already placed one there and was having a senior moment. (not a senior yet though). No, thats not it. So, I open it up and there is a micro log and cache printout. I cannot believe that I have just found a cache that has not been published. It does have a waypoint #, so I jot it down and sign our name. My head is spinning, as what are the odd's of finding one before it is listed? Turns out, some local cachers had placed it about an hour and a half before. They had actually added the side supports, on all 4 posts, even though the cache was in one. Really nice craftsmanship! It was published about midnight that night, so I logged it and told of my incredible feat. It still seems surreal, as the odd's of walking right up and finding it seem very long. Anyway, if you are interested in seeing the cache page it is :GCVREB. Anyone have any simular experiences? Cache On!
  3. I tried golf several times, back in the early 90's. The last time, I had an epiphany: I could become totally frustrated and get high blood pressure for alot cheaper: Go fishing! I already had a pole, and a license was fairly cheap, and every once in a blue moon, I even caught dinner. Sucker fish is an aquired taste for sure, but anyway, No Golfing for me. As a matter of fact, when I am elected dictator, I mean president of the USA, I am going to outlaw golf, and turn all the courses into shooting ranges. Anyone caught teeing up will become the targets!
  4. Maybe Groundspeak should issue us an ID card, that shows our profile. Oh, wait, Mine has a picture of my cut up stickery legs. Never mind. Actually, I always carry my Mr.T bobblehead, and when I get in a jam I oull him out and say "wat you want, fool?". Works every time
  5. Wow, as the OP'er I appreciate all the feedback. What a firestorm! While I agree with some points, and disagree with others, it is all interesting to read. And while I still beleive prayer is a personal thing, not a religious thing, I have made some changes to the original cache submission. One point before I show what I am submitting now: The line, "if you think this whole idea is stupid, we will pray for you" was meant to be funny. I did not mean to offend anyone, yet I see now how it could have. I apologized for my short-sightedness. So, with that in mind, do you think this submission should be approved?
  6. Thanks for the feedback so far. Welch, yes, I point out it is not required by saying, "if you think it is stupid, and do not want to participate, That is Ok too, just log your visit." Also, I agree that you can disagree without being disrespectful, and that I what I strive for. Keystone, you said: about my original statement: For those who think this is stupid, and do not want to participate, that is OK too. We will pray for you. (which I have since removed). Let me ask you, what is so offensive about that? If you don't believe in prayer then what offends you so much? I don't beleive in Fairies or Trolls, and many caches mention them, but I could care less. Why the hyper sensitivity? Why do you care? Just curious. Also you say Thats the point: I don't have one. There are many people in geocaching that pray, many that don't. I do not care if you do or don't. You can believe, or not, I do not care. Why should you care if I do? To me, its not an agenda I am trying to promote, I just thought it would be a neat idea. I would like to see peoples reponses. Again, if someone lists a cache that asks you to list a flower you like, does that promote an agenda about gardening? Prayer is not religious. It is personal. So you say keep religion out of caching, and I say I am. I respect your right to agree or disagree with any idea. You should respect mine. remember, your quote at the bottom of your sig. says "It's only a game." Exactly! Why take it so seriously?
  7. I recently submitted a cache that asks people to list Prayers. It looks like this: This is a cache that you can log as a find, and log your prayers. Since it is 2 stages, you can log 2 prayers. The first, for yourself, the second for another. They can be big or small, be specific or vague, or as long or short as you wish. Just list them, and see what happens! For the non spiritual who may visit this cache, you may substitute well wishes. For those who think this is stupid, and do not want to participate, that is OK too. Just log your visit. It was denied because the reveiwer said that "Solicitations are also off-limits. For example, caches perceived to be posted for religious, political, charitable or social agendas are not permitted. Geocaching is supposed to be a light, fun activity, not a platform for an agenda." Also, "Please keep religion out of geocaching." My contention is that since I do not mention any paticular Faith or denomination, and also provide alternitives if you should choose not to list a prayer, that this is not "religious", and does not promote an agenda. You can either list a prayer, or not, its that simple. If someone if that easily offended, then I see it as their problem, not mine. I do not necessarily like Harry Potter, but have done many caches with it as a theme. It is not a big deal to me. It seems that tolerance is trumpeted alot these days, unless it involves church. Anyway, off my soapbox now, by my original point remains, this cache seems harmless to me. Your thoughts? Thanks, and Cache On!
