  1. I just updated my 710 to version 7.15 does any one know what "Active suspend issue" was addressed by this update?
  2. Um, Sorry Zoom Zoom but check the obits.
  3. What on earth are you talking about trainlove? I have owned several Magellan GPS's and I have found hundreds of caches. It has never taken me "hundreds of feet away" from a co-ordinate that I entered.
  4. If it is copyright 2008, I would think that it is the latest version. I prefer to buy my maps on CD and transfer them to my GPS myself.
  5. You might want to check out the Magellan cross over GPS which is actually designed to do both jobs. http://www.magellangps.com/products/product.asp?segID=391

    New Site Bugs

Yeah, this map is not too helpful... I take back my earlier assertion about a 'glitch'. I am on a different machine now (at home) and it happened again to me. Not sure why the animation hangs up... (I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.3) I'm also getting these little maps after the little grey spinner. Since I had to look forever to find mention of it, I'm assuming it's a problem on my end, so, how do I fix it? Both maps on the cache pages look like this - I click on the little one in the upper left, and I get a yahoo map of the area where the cache is, but when I click on the little one on the lower right, I get a google map of Seattle. Your problem is probably that you have your pop up blocker active. Go into tools and allow pop ups on this site.
  7. That would delete all the geocaches not just the ones found.
  8. If the cache is saved as a Point of Interest then you can delete it on the GPS. If you uploaded it as a geocache file then you have to delete it in the program you originally used to up load it, and then upload the file again and overwrite the file on the GPS. Rather stupid, but that seems to be how it works.
  9. You shouldn't feel guilty about being the FTF. If others want to be first then they should try harder (and they will if you keep beating them to the cache). When it comes to trading you should trade up or trade even EXCEPT when there is a special prize for the FTF. This is an exception to the rule and you are not expected to trade up, even or at all. The FTF prize is just that, a prize for being the first one to find the cache. If you want to leave something you are free to do so but it is not necessary. At least that's the way it works in this neck of the woods.
  10. That's the problem for sure. You'll have to break it up into smaller files.
  11. As a premium member you can download caches in a GPX file. If you use a program like GSAK you can upload the files to the Explorist 500. The hint information is included in the GPX file and is transferred to the GPS. They just released a new version of GSAK and it can be downloaded for free. After a couple of weeks you get a nag screen. I have found that l like this program better than anything else I have tried.
  12. The 500 actually came with both the rechargeable battery AND the clip which holds 3 AAA batteries. As suggested you can always just buy a rechargeable battery from a Magellan dealer or a third party supplier.
  13. I believe the limit is the number of geocaches not the actual size (as in megabytes). How many caches do you have in the file?
  14. I prefer to use GSAK you'll find the link for downloading it here... http://www.geocaching.com/waypoints/default.aspx
  15. Was the unit turned off? It should be connected first and then turned on.
  16. I'm not sure if they are discontinuing the 500 or just the model with the rechargeable battery. Either way, Magellan does provide some support for discontinued models (manuals, etc.) I just bought a the discontinued model and I'm very happy with it. I got it from LondonDrugs.ca for $199.00 and it came with the recharger and the adapter so you can use AAA batteries. I bought the topo map from GPS Central and I bought a memory card and car lighter adapter. I also bought the swivel holder which is really great because you connect the USB cable to the holder and then the GPS just snaps in and out of the holder. Both companies were great to deal with. I love this setup. I thought that I would still use my old Meridian Gold for street maps but so far Topo Canada has everything I've needed.
  17. Do you have a SD card and card reader? If you do, then you can just transfer the data directly to the data card from a program like GSAK.
  18. I'll go along with everyone else here. Just download GSAK and use it. It works very well with the Exporist. EasyGPS works too, but not nearly as well.
  19. Because the Explorist uses SD Cards you can use a program like Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) and just pop the card into a reader and upload anything you want. It only takes a few minutes to upload the info on hundreds of caches into the GPSr. If you don't have a card reader, it's easy to use the cable that comes with the Explorist to connect to your computer. If you are comfortable with the Windows filing system, you'll soon be very comfortable with Magellan's filing system since they are essentially the same.
  20. This question should probably be in the GPS Units and Software section but the answer is you have version 1.61. Is it worth it to upgrade? Yes. Go to the Megellan web site and download the new version. Just follow the instructions and you shouldn't have any problems. When you are done your screen will say revision 5.2.03. Will it help solve your problem? Perhaps not but it certainly won't hurt it. Did you pass under a tunnel or bridge that might have interupted the reception? They ARE good units.
  21. I just requested my TB. My uncle lost his leg to diabetes. It's the least that I can do.
  22. I just bought an Explorist 500 and I had no problem hooking it to one of my computers but when I tried to hook it up to my other one, it did exactly what yours did. I haven't figured it out yet but what I found worked well with that computer was to put the card in a reader and use GSAK to write to the card. You will find the link to download the GSAK program in the resources section on the main page of this web site.
  23. This would be when you have the map screen displayed.
  24. Buy a swivel mount and don't worry about it. The cable connects to the mount and you just pop the GPS into the mount. No more fussing with the cable. Check it out here http://www.gpscentral.ca/accessories/magel...ploristswiv.htm
