  1. I cant figure out how to manually put in new coordinates for a waypoint - and then, how to get from one way point to the next via the GPS. (For example, there are 17 caches in a big park near my house. I can get to the park, but cant figure if my Venture HC will then get me from cache to cache...)
  2. Thanks everyone for their replys - I got 3 out of 4 today! Looooving this game!
  3. Out of 8 caches searched for the last two weeks (my first two weeks), only 5 were found, and 3 were not. I am still having a blast, but feel pretty pathetic! (Oh, and did I mention these are all given a star and a half for difficulty??)
  4. "I'd pick Les. Bear is a phony and I can't get the image of him wringing liquid out of elephant dung. Stay away from me, poop boy!" That was seriously funny!
  5. I love all of the posts here! (even if some are relatively off-topic ) nTo answer my own question it would have to be Les Stroud. The dude lives off of practically nothing while filming his excursions by himself. I actually get worried for him in some episodes like when he gets heat stroke. Dude is for real.
  6. I was looking into the amazon.com page on the Venture HC, and couldnt believe how many people said they love it for geocaching. I just ordered one tonight, and should be in geocaching bliss in 3 to 5 business days.
  7. I have 150$ to play with to pick out my birthday present tonight - would love to hear feedback on that one or any others you all would recommend!
  8. if your GPS ran out of batteries and you were lost - and you still wanted to find your cache: Les Stroud or Bear Grylls?
  9. A few friends of mine have gotten into this game in the past week, and I was wondering if there is a way I can track on this site how they are doing with finding caches? Like, I would be able to see when they logged a find, and vice versa.
  10. I thought there was an off-topic thread for those with premium membership. I have premium, but no one to share a cold one and talk politics with.
  11. Thanks so much everyone for your feedback. I will do a combination of light colored, nylon clothes, socks over the pants, and a form of repellent with a LOT of tick checks. Oh, and I definitely am environmentally friendly, and will stay away from the waters if I choose DEET. Thanks.
  12. I love this site and this hobby (addiction??)!! Thanks so much to larryc43230 for giving me a gift premium membership!! I promise to pay it forward in the future to the right candidate!! In the meantime I mwill be plotting and scheming for next geocaching advetures for next weekend!! Thanks so much again larryc43230!!!
  13. I am brand new at this wonderful hobby, but am worried about ticks, as I got lymes disease two summers ago. What repellents/methods do you use to keep ticks off of you? Thanks in advance!
  14. So I found my 4th Cache ever today with another friend. The thing is, I found 4 caches in one weekend without owning a GPS, by finding friends with GPS's and getting them hooked on geocaching! Getting my friends hooked ought to get me through until my birthday in 3 weeks as I drop a lot of hints of owning my own GPS one day! (Are you reading this honey? )
  15. You are going to love it Spanky! It is a lot like being a kid in a candy shop, only healthier, and more fun!
  16. I cannot begin to tell you all what a great time I had today! So, My wife, ten month old son and I head to a river with a public park, where there are two caches. We went with ArdentEnthusiast, his wife, and their 16 month old daughter. Today was the first time for any of us went on a geocache hunt. ArdentEnthusiast just bought a GPS this morning from a guy off of ebay, and it's the only GPS between the two of us. So we are looking for the cache, trying to figure the GPS out, and totally coming to a loss on the legitimacy of the GPS coordinates, as we simply cannot find the cache anywhere. After some time our wives want to get going, kids have to take naps, etc, so we head home. Both of us resolved to find a cache, we drop off our wives, head to a park closer to my house, and we make our first find. It was awesome! It is almost surreal looking for a cache while regular people walk right by completely oblivious to this hidden world. These cahces are right in the middle of places people go everyday. It's something else. Ardent then goes home, and lends me his GPS so I can go back to the river to find the other two caches. You can only imagine how thrilled I was when I found the originally elusive cache! And it hasd some great SWAG, including a free bowling game, a PBA card, a travel bug, and other cool things. (I didnt make any trades, as I decided ahead of time I just wanted to see how the game works, before I decide what to bring for trades. The third cache was by far the most dificult. It took me nearly 40 minutes, but man, that just made finding it all the sweeter! I absolutely love this game, and am seriously hooked. I am already thinking of some places I can make some caches myself... including a spot on the bay near my house that you can only get to with a paddle. BTW, I love the community here, and I look forward to getting to know some of you better as I get into geocaching!
  17. Thanks so much everyone!! We will be going on our hunt in about 3 hours, and we cant wait!

  19. Hello everyone! I will be on my first hunt with another friend of mine, and this will be his first hunt as well. If and when we both find our cahces together, do we both get to the log the find online, or do we have to decide who will get the credit? PS: I am pumped out of my mind for the hunt!!
