  1. I like the goodies too of the larger ones, but I have found that in some areas, smaller is better. I think that out in the woods, a micro or a small cache can be a PITA... I hid my first small cache last night; it was in a diet pill bottle. I left the cap white, but used paint to camoflauge the rest of the bottle. It is tiny enough to be discreet, but large enough to hold a few trades, as well as a log sheet. In this one, I put some marbles, a cross, and a buffalo nickel inside.
  2. Go to Walmart or any sporting goods store where hunting licenses are sold. They have each years guidelines, laws and season dates in one handy booklet. Regardless of the season, I always wear orange--I have a orange camo boonie hat--to protect me. I believe anyone down here (the south) knows of at least one group of people who would shoot anything that moved in the woods, regardless of whether it was in season or not.
  3. I replied in another forum to this question and posed a very stupid question to you... WHERE YOU WERE IN NC... Stoopid me... shouldn't read the sig at the end of your post... When you get a group together of interest to this, let me know; maybe it will work out for my work schedule to do something like this
  4. I think it sounds very exciting. I am in the western part of the state, near TN. How close are you? I was practically night caching last night, but only by accident. I wasn't prepared with my flashlight and was looking for a micro cache--in a black 35mm film cannister. I decided to come back in daylight to find it.
  5. I have noted a couple of the recent caches I've found have not all been logged online. I don't understand the opposition to having one's stats posted, but I need my ego stroked more than others I suppose. I like to look back at the caches I have found and see how many have found it besides me. Another thing, just like one cache I recently attempted to find, but also discovered that others had the same problem--the box was no longer there. Local hunters have no respect for such as this. I think when you post your log, you are letting folks know the cache is still active and still worth spending the time to look for.
  6. Oriental Trading is an EXCELLENT company to get good swag from... I am searching for a signature item. But I haven't found anything especially ME yet.
  7. My husband will be sharing my gps with me; so we will both be able to enjoy our investment. He is a hunter. But I am glad to hear that I am not the lone ranger out there. What surprises me is the places where caches would be great and there are none hidden there. A good opportunity for me when I am confident enough to hide my own.
  8. I've not got a gps unit yet; I am looking at a Garmin Navtalk gps/cellphone unit. But until then I am sticking to caches that I am familiar with the physical terrain, landmarks, etc... How many folks NEVER get a GPS and still geocache?
