  1. Wow, Garmin will have some work to do. The Vantage point looks like a better program than MapSource. Also, the National Geo Maps are 100X better than the Gramin Topos. I wonder if the National Geo maps will look as good on the handheld? Also, the touch screen is a great idea. Certainly saves time to have to go through a lot on menus. As God Jobs said, the fingers are the best control interface. Too bad you can't use the finger pinch to zoom in and out of maps like the iPhone! Hopefully, The next version of the 60 series will have a large touch screen!
  2. yes, I see. I think I will wait for the new CS as I like the larger screen, dedicated buttons and quad helix.
  3. Wow, I can't wait to see what the next iteration of the CS models will be like! Please make it faster, lighter, more power efficient, better and larger screen. And NOT $1,000!
  4. Hi, I was wondering, how fast does the new Vista H re-fresh the screen? Can you tell if it's faster than than the CSx? When you scroll sround the map page in a dense city area, does it take forever like the old Vista?
  5. One important thing that people failed to mention is the speed of the units at refresh. The H series is new so no one has commented on the speed of the processor vs the CSx. I own a CSx and I know it is by far the fastest unit before the H series. Now, we'll have to wait for some feedback on how fast the H can re-draw maps. I hate it when I have to wait forever when I'm scrolling through the map especially if I'm driving and need to see where I'm going pronto.
  6. No, terrain shading only displays in MapSource. WTF?! Can't then get anything right?
  7. See my review on the first page of this thread. If you already have really good street maps (city Nav) then the streets in Topo 08 are at best redundant, and not as high a quality as what you already have. the Topographical, stream, road and trail data that you currently have compare similarly to Topo 2008. Really the big thing you would be gaining by purchasing T08 is the ability to do vertical route profiling on the GPS unit. What about the terrain shading? Does that transfer to the GPS also?
  8. Quick question, I know that the new 2008 Topo won't but did the old topo allow for routing on the GPS?
  9. Two thoughts. 1. There has been a lot of solar flair activity lately. GPS signals are being blocked by those. 2. There was an article I read a few days ago that said that the new Pentium Dual Core chips above 1.7 ghz might interfear with GPS signals.
  10. Wouldn't paying the $75 for the upgrade mean that you will be able to unlock 2 new GPSs?

  12. I had a variation of it. When I try to move the cursor to another point on the map, it won't move. It's stuck in the current location. The only way to get it to move again is to power off and on. It happened to me once when I was using fw 2.9. I haven't tired fw 3 yet so I don't know if that will have the problem. Also, since it happened to me just once I don't know if that's a real problem. Although I remember happening to the my old 60CS, back when I was using it. It was fixed by more stable fw.
  13. Aha, now you've touched on something which I quickly tested. I routed to a waypoint which provided a really strange route which would ignore some of the roads. I then switched the map off and noticed that it had followed the roads on loaded maps to a certain point and then switched to the base map, and not those on the loaded map. What I find strange though is that if a waypoint is created that is on a road on the loaded map, it routes fine on the map. If the waypoint is not on the road on the loaded map, it seems to sometimes switch to the base map Is this a unit problem, or a problem with the maps? Seems the unit gets somewhat confused, sometimes using base map, sometimes loaded map. And it seems to switch between the two at certain points through the route? I must add that when I perform the routing in Mapsource, there are no routing issues, only happens on the GPSr Please notify Garmin so that they can include this in their next FW update.
  14. iNiq, You're not alone. I've had LOTS of problems with my 60CSx. See my Posts #s 7 and 20 above in this thread. TracknQ Yeah, I appreciated that. Thanks…. That was a 90% rhetorical question anyway. I’m all about brand loyalty. I like Garmin. Heck, I live about 10 miles away from their Olathe plant. But (IMHO) the 60CSx has a lot of potential, but isn’t 100% what they were advertising on the box. It shouldn’t be necessary to research an item to find out the real truth, as opposed to relying on the merit of the advertised features on the box. I mean, what if you bought a new car, brought it home and realized one of the tires was the wrong size? Shrug your shoulders, and say, “Oh-well, it looks ok from a distance….” ?? I don’t mean to make ppl angry. I really believe the Garmin will have the unit debugged by this time next year. I’m just a little disappointed that the design wasn’t fully tested out, when I got it home, that’s all. Look at it this way. There are hardly any threads (if any) discussing the flaws and shortcomings, in regards to the 60CS. Everything works on it, period. Now is it as sensitive as the 60CSx? No. But now I’m on the crazy train with all the other 60CSx ppl, hoping that the next firmware update finally puts all the issues to bed. Which were not there yet. The 60CSx is very functional. I use it for all my business travels. I just don’t want any unsuspecting buyer out there thinking that they are getting the greatest GPS in the world, and being disappointed when they look at the altimeter screen. ( which is just one example…) Ok, I’ll be quiet now….. -iNiq I was one the first people to buy the 60CS when it was rolled out a few years ago. Let me tell you something, that unit went through the SAME exact growing pains as the 60CSx is going through now. I still remember there were quite a few serious firmware issues with the 60CS that gave many of us early adopters a lot of anger. But you know what? Garmin fixed it over time. The Vista I had before the 60CS also went through the same. I fully expect Garmin to improve the 60CSx. Since some of you are so impatient, perhaps you should just sell you x series and wait a couple of years when Garmin work all of the bugs out of it before re-purchasing it. Stick to the 60CS for now. For me, I don't really mind the little bugs. I think the extra sensativity and the SD card capability alone are worth it. I know it's only a matter of time before this becomes the perfect GPS.
  15. I just bought a MacBook. I can just dual boot with BootCamp and run whatever I want. Sorry, that's not the answer you were looking for...
  16. the sale lasts until tomorrow. you can order it online too. I'm sure you can get it a bit less elsewhere but not with EMS's reputation. you can return anything ANYTIME! http://www.ems.com/catalog/subcategory_sim...D=1146326629420
  17. Obviously there will be lowered priced sellers on the internet but we're talking about Amazon here. People trust them more than a no name seller. Does Chumbo have a 30 day return policy?...I didn't think so... For $10 - $15 more, I rather sleep better at night knowing that I'm buying from a trusted authorized reseller such as Amazon. Although I bought from LakePowell when the unit was first released and it was a good transaction. I wished Amazon had these prices back then...
  18. "3 men stay at a motel. The front desk charges them $30.00 for a room. They split the cost $10 each. Later the manager tells the desk man that he overcharged them, the cost should have been $25. The manager gives the bellboy $5 and tells him to give it to the men. The bellboy cheats the men and pockets $2, giving each of them only one dollar. Now each man has paid $9 to stay in the room. 3 x $9 = $27. The bellboy pocketed $2. $27 + $2 = $29 - so where is the missing dollar?" There is no missing dollar. $27 was what the 3 men paid, not $30. You're not suppose to ADD the $2 the bellboy stole, you're suppose to subtract it from the $27 to get to the original $25 cost. That's a slight of hand or math.
  19. I don't think this happens on the x seires since you're downloading the maps into the microSD.
  20. Try deleting the map file on the card manually before trying to re-load it. It might not be smart enough to erase it before trying to load the new map set.
  21. The USB drivers are included with Mapsource so once you load that and have maps to load you should be able to mount the card? It seems to me that you can buy a 512mb card and load half of the country into it to use on the Cx.
  22. This WAS posted earlier... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=126825
  23. You'll save 95% of the time if you load your maps into your card using a reader instead of directly into the 60x. To load 512MB will only take about 10 minutes. You'll then need to put the card back into your 60x and load just the waypoints, routes, etc... These readers costs next to nothing, $10-$20 so I would recommend that you load the maps that way from now on...
