  1. I totally agree. Mobile apps for 10 are expensive and I expected a lot more that I got. I do think the price is highly inflated for the value of the app. It's a nice app, but I can't get it to work with the benchmarks that are available on geocaching.com. I want to import .loc files sometimes. I may try Geosphere.
  2. I know nothing about the iphone so I'll just address the other question. You can put anything you want to on your own property (within zoning restrictions) but you can't list it as a geocache on this site. (Assuming that by "private" cache you mean that the general caching public would be restricted from looking for it. If you mean something else, please clarify.) Thanks. I found some other messages on this topic and what you say makes sense. I was thinking of planting some items on our family farm (25 acres) for a family reunion activity. The app makes it easier to download and locate so people don't have to enter coordinates. It's better to keep it open like you state. Thanks again!
  3. First off, they are different. The only similarity is you look for something. They are NOT the same, and SHOULD NOT be combined. There are many cachers-both who do the Munzee thing, and who don't, who will agree. I do believe when looking at the cache map on Iphone it uses apple maps. From the home screen select find nearby geocaches. You will either get a map, or a list. At the top of the screen you have two buttons. One for map, and one for list. Simply select which one you want. And just to point out, the driver shouldn't be using a cellphone while driving. It is even illegal in some places. That's why it's a good idea to plan your route when you select the cache you want to find. Or at least have someone to navigate for you. Using a cell phone in the car is illegal in most places, but using a GPS is not. I use the GPS on my cell phone in my car while driving often and so do emergency responders. The turn by turn features would be awesome so you can drive and get closer, I am NOT talking about texting or playing games. As for the Munzee, you points are very valid. I am a newbie and just seeking some advice on advancing in this hobby. Thanks for the suggestions.
  4. I am a newbie, I have found 7 geocaches so far and just love it. My family and I all go out and search and bond during this time. It also gets ME off of my couch!! My question, I purchase the Geocaching app (for 9.99) and I want to know how I can use it to record the coordinates for a geocache that I hide? I can't see anything for doing that, it also seems that the waypoint setting feature only works on the map when you navigate to a geocache, is that correct? Please help a newbie get going, I am reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Geocaching" 3rd edition right now and anxious to get going... One more, is there a way to leave "private" geocaches that we could put on our property? Sorry for the overload of questions. @ljrain
  5. I just started Geocaching with the family and think it is so much fun. We are also doing Munzee (I think they should be combined) #JustSayin But, I have a question. I find a cache I want to search for, but it is say 2 miles away, I can't figure out how to open it in Apple Maps, Waze, or Google Maps to get me closer before using the Geocaching app to zero on the the cache and claim it. I want to use the navigation functionality in my car as I drive closer to it, this was a problem yesterday when I was in an area I was not familiar with. Thoughts, suggestions, help? Thanks @ljrain
