  1. Glad I no longer "adopt" early...
  2. OK, bye. Thanks for playing though.
  3. This may help, but not much... Magellan, PN: 3261997, UPC: 763357114195 having a hard time tracking them down online. Search for Magellan Battery Clip for Explorist
  4. I use mine to pick my nose and scratch my butt. go figure.
  5. Get an eXplorist 600 for cheap. Basically a smaller, color meridian with USB and SD card. I still love this thing, but have to tote around my Palm too...
  6. How much are those?!? if you have to ask, you can't afford it. as in, thousands...
  7. the nail in the coffin. I buy the top o'the line eXplorist, preorder. In the years since that purchase I have had exactly 1 (ONE) firmware update. gee, thanks for all the 'support.' I hope the triton goes down in flames. I hope they update it as much as the explorist. Goodbye magellan. never again. Anyone want a slightly used Platinum?
  8. The issues were with the odometer not reading at slow speeds. I think the current firmware on the HCX still won't read below 1.1mph. This normally isn't a big deal but if you are using detailed topos then you could be climbing steep mountains and going very slow. There also seems to be an issue with max speed being glitchy. Some people have done hikes where their max speed was reported as high a 90mph. So maybe you can check this stuff out. It's very possible that the Colorado could be using a newer version of the chip that addresses all of those issues. I was thinking that is was a hardware issue all along. I was watching the odometer this morning and I don't remember seeing any issues even at slow speeds, but I really wasn't looking for trouble either. I'll have to do a comparison between my 60cs and the Colorado tomorrow. GO$Rs TrailGators is misinformed (and widely spreading that misinformation). that's a bit much, don'tcha think?
  9. Everything that is in the pocket query is available on the unit. Name, code, owner, difficulty, type, container size, description, hint, logs. You can also store photos if you want the pictures. Not quite as flexible as what a PDA can do, but pretty good at the moment. In addition, Garmin is promising to improve the software based on feedback. It is all discussed to death pn these forums. but for some reason the icons don't show up on the map. what's up with that? and no way to mark them as found. what part of paperless caching didn't they inderstand.
  10. well... the main bug is that the triton does not work, crashes often, has no current maps to route with, and is a general pain in the butt to use at this point. Thank your stars and look for a different unit right now. Magellan is using the public as their beta testers right now. read a LOT more about the tritons and tribulations here or visit the triton forum here for more info.
  11. My standard 'procedure' for loading my eXplorist. 1] do a pocket query 2] PQ sent to my e-mail account 3] With the e-mail showing on a reduced window, I simply double-click on the attached PQ, and a program called WinZip opens the zipped file, and shows me whats inside the file. 4] I click on and drag the main gpx file to my desktop. 5] I rename the numbered gpx file to something that makes sense to me, like Home.gpx, or route.gpx, or Lexington.gpx 6] I open GSAK and drop the .gpx file in there to update my database, and to send the caches to my palm for paperless caching. 7] I attach my eXplorist to the computer and turn it on, I make sure it is in data transfer mode, then go into the geocache folders on the SD card and delete the old .gs (eXplorist geocaching) files and any .fnd (found) files in there. 8] Open geocache manager program 9] hit the new file icon (white sheet of paper) to clear out any old cache data. 10] hit the open file icon (folder, next to the new file icon). 11] move the search to my desktop (where I saved the .gpx files) and double click on the .gpx I want to load. 12] Hit the save to eXplorist button (looks like a satellite) and since I renamed it Home.gpx, it will save it to the eXplorist SD card as Home.gs. 13]repeat 9-12 until all of my .gpx files are loaded. Oh, and I limit all of my .gpx Pocket queries to a maximum of 190 caches.
  12. take a picture of the screen with a camera? or am I too dense...
  13. The website is out of date then. imagine that.. i am SO done with maggie
  14. It looks like Magellan was releasing different Triton models at different dates. Triton 300 was first to go in mid-November and Triton 2000 was last in late December. And some bugs were fixed in the meantime. So as I said above next firmware update should bring all Tritons to the same performance level. ... which right now is somewhere between dead, unintuative, and dysfunctional...
  15. No, none of the Garmin Topo maps will not autoroute. You will need street maps like City Navigator. stolen from the 400t site, at the bottom of the page. "Plug in and Go Conveniently plug in optional preloaded SD cards for all your outdoor activities on land or water. Just insert a MapSource card with detailed street maps, and Colorado provides turn-by-turn directions to your destination."
  16. Do you have a link to a particular post? Searching that blog for "bobcat" returns 0 hits. Scroll down to "Chet's Corner: It's Finally About Time for Macworld!" He mentions Bobcat, but that's it. I'm guessing real Mac/Garmin compatibility software. finally...
  17. Sad to say, but I have to agree with you. I had so much hope for the Triton line, but Magellan stumbled coming out of the blocks. stumbled, fell into a hole, impaled themselves on a knife, broke their leg, all while maintaining a weird silence. And after watching their failure to do any type of firmware update for my eXplorist 600 for over 2 years, I am not holding out great hope for the Triton users. here's hoping the Colorado 400t is the holy grail - at least for me.
  18. interesting tidbit on the 400t spec sheet here. in case youhate hitting links, under the features listed, it says: "Geocaching mode: yes (paperless)"
  19. Not that I like to pimp other forums, but folks having problems may find some kindred spirits, or solutions over at the Triton Forums
  20. Was this a newly purchased DirectRoute or one you were using in an eXplorist? It's not of much use if it won't street route. That's really the main point. Street routing is the main point of a hand held? 10 MB is not a lot for detail maps. The Explorist 210 has 22 MB, for heaven's sake! Seems like a step backward. A handheld is not for street routing. It is primarily for outdoor use. If you want street routing you use a vehicle navigation unit. Like mixing apples and oranges. Wow! Silly me! I didn't know a handheld "is not for street routing." I've been successfully using my eXplorist 500 with DirectRoute for both street routing and offroad for almost two years now. I like being able to use the same unit for both purposes. When you loaded the DirectRoute maps to the Triton, did it at least show the line from your present location to the cache on the map screen? At least that way the maps would be somewhat useful (But still not worth purchasing for geocaching purposes.) edited to add: I have a suction cup mount for the 500 that has held up for as long as I've had the unit. I was concerned when I got it that the screen wouldn't be big enough, but that's not been a problem at all. As for storage of the maps, changing SD cards takes about 20 seconds. It would do everything but the turn by turn directions. that just seems really weird. Did you select the detailed map as your active map? from the maggie web page on the 500 "Magellan Triton 500 Question: How do I select a detailed map for use on my Triton? Answer: Select a detail map that has been loaded to your Triton by pressing the MENU key. Select “View” and then “Maps.” Use the scroll keys to highlight the detailed map you wish to use and press the Enter key. The red stripe “not viewed” indicator will disappear. Press the Escape key (esc) to return to the map screen. The region covered by your detailed map will have a red outline around it. ZOOM – (out) to locate the red outlined area. ZOOM + (in) to view the detailed map."
  21. Thought the reset switch was in the upper righthand corner of the unit. Probably need to push in with a paperclip, etc.. Like the palm pilots
  22. FWIW, the specs are now up for the entire Triton line on maggie's home page here. about time... sadly, still no real 'support' on the product support pages. yet.
