  1. Reading the logs, it sounds like a liar's cache to me.
  2. This is an excellent idea. This cache on San Diego State's campus was placed more than 7 years ago and is still going strong. Part of the reason for this is that administration, security and the groundskeeping staff all know about it.
  3. I would not have known what it meant either.
  4. Uncle Henry? OMG, no wonder he hasn't answered the phone.
  5. Thanks Dave. I was just up on South Divide cleaning up the new caches, by myself as usual. I have previously spotted a mountain lion there--about a year ago, so they are definitely up there, both on North and South Divide. I'm guessing that Hoaggie is eating steak now.
  6. I agree with Ron that I prefer to do a power trail that has developed over time, with hides by a number of different cachers, using different containers and hidden in different styles. These de facto trails evolve naturally and while they may require multiple trips for those people who clear a radius, isn't a good hike or bike trail worth doing more than once?
  7. Vergeef mijn slechte Nederlands. U kunt deze plaatsen in de "alle andere landen" Forum. Ik heb gemerkt Nederlandstaligen terbeschikkingstelling dat er misschien leven in uw buurt.
  8. Welcome back after your hiatus. You are right. There has been a huge increase in the number of mind numbing "numbers" caches. The caches in a pretty park, or on a mountain top, or with a great view are still out there, but you'll have to come up with some kind of screening system if you want to find them. It can be done, but it's not like it was when you started. Good luck and welcome back.
  9. You can do a quick search on the Internet for "easy html" and come up with any number of websites that will show you the code. Here is one. You might want to check with your local reviewer, since many links are not allowed on cache pages.
  10. They started out as something fun (or funny) that you had to do at the cache, and quickly degenerated into the most bizarre and ridiculous requirements (on some caches). It's too bad, that some cache hiders went to these extremes simply because they could. Add me to the "good riddance" group.
  11. I use the TK11 as my primary night caching light. It is small, extremely bright and rugged. I've dropped it without any damage. It is big enough to feel comfortable and small enough that you can stuff it in a pocket without noticing it. I use CR123A batteries that I buy in bulk, but it takes rechargeable 1860 batteries too. At 225 lumens, it is bright enough to use on the trail for navagation as well as general caching. I don't see a need for anything brighter.
  12. Both my Oregon and 60CSx have one and I keep it turned off for the same reasons that StarBrand gave above. I've always had much better luck just walking very slowly when I get that close to the cache. I would not spend extra money for it.
  13. Another type of hint that irritates me, but hasn't been mentioned yet are those that are decrypted to reveal something like this: TFE LRUOY OTHS UBAD NIHEB STI. Why do some people think it is necessary to make it harder to use the hint by writing it backwards and separating the words incorrectly so that you need to decrypt the hint again?
  14. Don't forget to add a couple of new caches to the road.
  15. A hike this morning on the Santa Rosa Plateau turned up this Southwestern Pond Turtle, that we rescued from certain death along the road. He was a bit shy and refused to come out and say "Hi" This fellow was in the vernal pools looking for breakfast. Unlike the turtle, this garter snake was kind enough to swim over to us. OK, while not a "critter", it is still alive.
  16. Hmmm, Pygoscelis antarcticus, the Chinstrap Penguin. Pretty easy to see where they get their name. Mrs LLOT must have been thrilled at the close encounter . . . unless the guy picked that moment to poop, of course.
  17. Ummmmm, gumballs . . . is there anything they can't do?
  18. So . . . were you there for the home made bikini contest, Dave? Or did either of you enter? Inquiring minds want to know
  19. Fat means "grow" or "an increase" or "prosperous" I swear it's true. Rooster said so and she ought to know.
  20. Are they "High Fiveing" each other, Chuy?
  21. I guess rattlesnake avoidance training is only effective against rattlesnakes.
  22. This is a great point. If it is going to be an ordeal to go up and move it to meet the guidelines, you might want to give some more thought to this location. There will be times when you have to go back for maintenance. It shouldn't feel like a chore. If it does, that's not the fun that geocaching is supposed to be. Better to put a cache at the bottom of a hill and maintain it well, than put up litter at the top . . IMHO. And YES! It sure is nice to see AuntieWeasel posting again. I've missed her humor.
  23. Bombing practice, yes . . . but by whom? I don't see any nearby craters, but there are what appears to be scorch marks created by some kind of energy beam weapon.
