  6. My Palm M500 cost me $30.00 off ebay-thats shipping and all,and CacheMate was only $8.00 so it really is very reasonable to go paperless-all thats left for me is to get my premium membership which should be soon
  7. Some great ideas, the pre-paid credit card sounds like maybe a good way to go-I accually have one from a couple of years ago that I forgot all about, just need to load it up,Thanks to all!

  12. What if I just use the unregistered version of GSAK,what will I be missing when I send cache page to pda?
  13. Thanks,I thought maybe it would, just wanted to be sure.Checked the palm site and it said SD or MMS chips could be used, thanks for all the help.
  14. Just wanted to make sure there was enough memory for paperless caching
  15. I was wondering what kind or size of memory chip I need for my m500?,do the camera memory chips work in it?
  16. K-done my HotSync and it has my name there now-saw that some people are having problems with the update version for palm so I did install the version that came on the cd-also after I unzip cachemate how hard is it to get it on my palm-sorry for all the questions but I knew yall had experience with this
  17. Ok,great-I was just about to install the CD that came with it-after it is installed then I do a hotsync??-I know I have to do one before I get the cachemate so I can be sure my code is right
  18. Thanks, just wanted to get some input on it,I guess the Hotsync button just sync's the pc to the palm?
  19. I just recieved my m500 off ebay and was wondering if there was anything I really needed to do to it.It came with the palm software-do I put it on my PC?, and then what?.Want to get everything ready to get Cachemate and GSAK.Didn't come with a manual so I'm sorta flying blind
  20. Congratulations!! You got a good deal! In the Palm Desktop software, which you can download from the Palm Site, in order to have the latest version, you will create an account. It can be your real name, or a nickname, or just "user." That is the "HotSync" name and after the first HotSync that will be on your Palm, until you do a Hard Reset, something you shouldn't have to do. If you bought a used Palm, the person who sold it to you, should have done a Hard Reset before shipping it in order to remove all their data. If they didn't, you need to do a Hard Reset so you can use your own name on it. Thanks Miragee for the HotSync info, now if it will hurry up and get here so I can start paperless....... There is no reason to get the T5 if you only want it for Geocaching. The Palm m500 works great, and the monochrome screen is easy to read, even in bright sunlight.
  21. The part about getting an ancient one for 10 or 20 bucks is that you won't panic so much when you drop it in a beaver pond or smash it on a rock while you are out caching. I wouldn't get an "ancient" Palm. Look on eBay for a "like new" Palm m500. It can take an SD card and connects to your computer with USB, something that is important. There is no point in purchasing an old Palm for $10.00 and then finding out the Serial to USB adapter is going to cost $39.99 . . . I have had my Palm m500 for more than six years. The battery is still going strong and in nearly three years of using it with Cachemate installed, have never had a problem with it. I got an inexpensive hard case to protect it from the inevitable rigors of caching. You should be able to get a Palm m500, with the cradle, and including the shipping, for less than $30.00. To get the information into my Palm, I use GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife). I haven't had to print out a cache page ever since I started caching "paperless." It is the only way to go . . . Just bought a Palm500 on ebay for $30 total-what I was wondering is,on the cachemate site they talk about a Hotsynk name on the PDA-does anyone know where that is?
  22. Does anyone know if smittyware or GSAK accept checks or money orders-I don't use a credit card and I don't do Paypal, just bought a Palm M500 off ebay and want to be ready when it gets here. Thanks
  23. I have the blue legend and love it,never lets me down
