  5. Hey welcome to caching and Happy New Year-as for wondering about crossing the water or not,be sure and look at the map on the geocaching.com site and they will show you which side of the river, creek etc. that the cache is located so you can plan your "attack",lol.Have fun-thats the main thing, enjoy life!
  6. I just looked at the golflogix gps you are talking about, I don't think those units are internally similar. If I had to guess by the button layout and screen size/type it looks like an EtrexH. Notice above the screen on the golflogix says High sensitivity? only the newer Etrex models use that type of chipset. also notice that the golflogix model doesn't have a click-stick, only the EtrexH is configured this way. It may be possible to load that firmware to the EtrexH, though I don't think I would try it. Yeah your probably right,it was just a thought. That thing is so cool though, all the courses I play can be downloaded to it.Guess I will wait for the price to come down more.
  7. Does anyone know if the golflogix firmware download will work in the blue legend, they both look identical other than the color
  8. Also when just starting out try looking for a regular sized cache and not a micro,I made that mistake when I first started and it will drive you bonkers because they are so small, and welcome to the game your gonna love it!!!
  9. LIES,LIES,ALL LIES,for I saw him just last night when he left all the groovy stuff............
  10. Can't a cacher ask a question without being jumped on and grilled? Yikes! Amen!
  11. Welcome to caching-I started out with the Garmin Legend(the blue one),its a good starter unit, but now I have the 60CSx and really love it,got it off Walmart site for a good price, just kept watching it and they run very good prices on them.Site to store, just ordered it and they sent it to my local wallyworld and sent me a email saying it was ready to pickup.
  12. It's true that the hard to get to caches tend to have nicer stuff, but I think that's more because of the lack of finders, rather than the kind of people who find them. The more finds, the more likely a cache is to degrade. I have caches that have been out there for years and actually still have some of the original trade items inside (decent stuff) when I check on them. These caches aren't found very often though. A few times a year. My more popular caches on the other hand are emptied of anything nice within a few months. I think most novice geocachers start out looking for the "pot of gold", but quickly learn that it's the rainbow they are after. A dry logbook is all most veteran geocachers ask for. Dry log books are SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I use the .gpx format but it is pretty simple. After I download my PQ I save it in a PQ folder I created. I open GSAK and open the PQ. I filter out what I don't need and send the waypoints to my gps. Then I save the filtered PQ as a .gpx giving it a file name with the month and date so I keep my IPAQ and GPS up to date. I save the .gpx file into my folder that sync's with my IPAQ. Plug in the IPAQ and sync up. Now I open Cachemate in my IPAQ, delete the old .gpx and load the new one. Now I am ready to go. Hope this helps. Thanks for your help-I haven't cached in so long that I have forgotten how all this works-thanks again so much
