  1. In the absence of anything being done about this, this is just the way it's going to be. Will just create two more Labs in my GSAK - and hopefully get over the dirty feeling of 2 finds I'm not entitled to :p
  2. Agreed. Why give Adventure Lab owners the power to "break" the system? The poor Adventure Lab owner wasn't to know (sans the guideline quoted by CAVinoGal - which I entirely missed myself)
  3. Thanks CAVinoGal. At least that shows it's a known problem. I was going to email HQ to have this fixed but it said I should post on these forums. Does anyone from HQ actually read this forum?
  4. This particular Adventure Lab also causes my Adventure Lab app to crash when I click on the map when logged in with my account.
  5. Max and 99 - if I delete two of the Labs, it will show the Lab as not completed again (original problem) The two Labs we found originally are gone. Even if I do delete two of them, and put up with it on my phone, it is still very obvious there is a bug.
  6. I know.. a remarkable feat. The girlfriend and I recently did this Adventure Lab - https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/thepark There was a bit of unpleasantness - as apparently part of the Adventure was on state government property (unbeknown to everyone except the government security guard). However, we had managed to get all we needed before we met Mr Security Guard - and we completed the adventure with 5 finds. The diligent Adventure Lab owner changed the Adventure Lab so it was no longer on government property. Great. The problem started when I looked at the Adventure on the Adventure Lab app (Android) and it showed that I had not found 2 of the Labs. The same happened to my girlfriend on her phone (iOS). It gets even better. We were able to answer the new questions from the loftiness of our lounge room. We guessed the answers. Now it shows the Adventure Lab as completed. But wait - there's more! It has given me and the girlfriend 2 extra Adventure Lab finds. Hence 7 out of 5 finds for an Adventure Lab. Could someone please be a lamb and fix this? At least, please fix it so it shows I have finished the Adventure and have 2 less find that I am not entitled to? Apologies for long post.
  7. I get the attached message when I click on "View Larger Map" on the archived cache.
  8. I have never been able to see an icon the map when I click "View Larger Map" in an archived cache. That's fine. I just wanted to see the area the archived cache was in. But now all I get is a big "Sorry, we couldn’t find "GCXXXX" and it shows a default map of my home co-ordinates. Most helpful. Can we please get the functionality back to be able to see the area where an an archived cache was? Again - I don't need to see the icon on the map. I've lived without that for years. Why do we have to have to lose working functionality for the sake of change?
  9. I really do understand where the OP is coming from. A few years in particular I dearly wished for a block function. But as others have intimated, in reality it is just not feasible. Caches and logs need to be seen by everyone (including NM and NA logs). The "share a beer" solution with said troublesome mob is a good idea. Indeed, I have personally done this successfully. But in reality it just is not always possible for everyone to be everyone else's friend. There are many (clashing) personalities in the geocaching world - especially these days. I have sort of got around the lack of block function by using filters in my email. Outta mind, outta sight. I know it's tough and sounds a bit cliche - but just ignore those that seek to upset you. Don't retaliate in any way, shape or form. Ignoring them and their actions is the best way to frustrate their efforts. Hopefully, they will eventually get bored with it. Personally, I would like to see is the ability to block people from clicking on my caching name and seeing the recent caches I've found. My name would still appear in the logs of caches I did. I fail to see the harm in that.
  10. Well I for one - am glad someone said it.
  11. - Heavy-handed reviewers who lock (not just archive) caches for the wrong reasons - People who think a high find count somehow makes someone an authority or better than others - People who stalk others to copy their finds and caching habits (yes - it creepily happens in my area) - Smartphone logs - or a quality thereof. - FTF competitivity (that's a word I just made up ) - Maj.Duty above me hit the nail on the head about Challenge caches. "Manufactured Caches" I call them - One-upmanship (Another word I just made up ) Otherwise I am pretty happy in my own little niche with my friends in our hobby
  12. Not sure this fitted into any of the pinned categories - but here we go anyhoo... I am after a geocoin that celebrates Challenge Caches (ie these types of caches). I would prefer something that can also be engraved... but beggars can't be choosers. I looked at my normal stores and didn't find anything. I'm from Australia - but will buy from anywhere. Hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction
  13. Thanks 7rxc Unfortunately, like a lot of things for us Australians, when a town name is also used in the US, the website defaults to the US town. For example. If I type in another Brisbane suburb - "lawnton" It comes up with a suburb in Harrisburg, PA by the same name. I have always just put <suburb>, qld with no problems Incidentally, if you zoom in and look at the streets, you will see the name. This actually used work properly I believe, until about a month ago? Thanking you again.
  14. Apologies if this has been reported before. I have only noticed it during the past month or so. So what happens is on the very first page of geocaching.com. If I enter a town - say "tewantin, qld" (an Australian town) in the search box - it comes up with caches in a suburb called Inala (also in Queensland ie QLD). It just so happens there is a road called "Tewantin Way" in Inala. The same thing happens if I search for "petrie, qld". It brings up caches in a suburb called "Spring Hill"... and there happens to be a "Petrie Terrace" in it. So the search function is finding streets - before looking for suburbs? Thanking you in advance...
  15. The only map you have enabled is "Oceania". You'll need to edit your Statistics settings here to enable other maps. I believe they're all enabled by default, so you must have gone in there at some point and disabled the others. Spot on, The A-Team. It was highlighting the Philippines / Singapore region on the Oceania map when I moved the mouse over it - so I thought it should be there. I didn't realise I had changed a setting - obviously I had. Thank you so much for the quick reply
  16. Recently, I went to Singapore and the Philippines and did caching while there. That was over two weeks ago and my geocaching.com statistics page still says the only countries I have cached in are Australia and New Zealand. Is it normal for it to take a long time for it to filter through to the statistics page - or is this actually a bug? FYI - Using Internet Explorer 8. Thanking you in advance..
  17. As mentioned previously and numerous times before - for the love of all thats good and holy - PUT THE DATE BACK IN THE LOGS. I can't fathom on what planet the vague, wish-washy "about a month ago" was a great idea. Avatars are not annoying me.... yet. I do like the challenges thing - that it is spearate from your cache count. I don't care if people put "hug your dog" challenges. I think for the most part I will be ignoring them. Geocaching Australia has been doing it for years and I live quite happily without doing them. Wait till someone puts "Nude-up for a Smiley" as a challenge (yes there is one of those on geocaching.com.au)
  18. This cache - GCNJ6W Pam & Dan & Us - is next to Fingal Lighthouse near the QLD/NSW border. Good cache too.
  19. I have only six caches. One of them got taken by the floods - all the rest survived. I just went and checked on one that is a 6km return hike. It went under the water - but the cache was fine in its home (God bless ammo boxes). Good on you for checking Bundyrumandcoke
  20. I agree with Bundyrumandcoke. Life does go on. I think I am entitled to an opinion to this - as I do live in Brisbane. As soon as the floods hit, I disabled my vulnerable caches. I went out the other day after the waters receeded and sure enough 2 were missing. They have been since replaced and all (except one) has been re-enabled. Sure enough, some folk in Brisbane have copped the brunt of this flood. These people, and those assisting them have higher priorities than geocaching. There will be those caches that have gone missing that will get DNFs galore. Cachers looking for these will just have to be understanding. However, if cache owners ARE able to take care of their caches, checking them out or disabling them would be very much appreciated. I have been caching a few times since the floods hit. I haven't gone anywhere near the flood affected areas. Nor will I until they are cleaned up and the workers have done their thing. The story behind this cache is an interesting little read about it surviving the floods.
  21. I am aware there is a sticky about which GPSr to buy. However I need a unique type. One that can run Windows Mobile 5 or 6 and is wireless. Ever since I started caching, I have been using a Mio P550 running some third party (we shall call it "GS" as not to get anyone's nose out of joint). The Mio P550 has been excellent. I find it very accurate and "GS" holds heaps of caches. I have over 3,500 caches loaded and there is no reason it cannot hold more. It has all the logs and information and even the the spoiler pictures. My experience has been with Garmins and Magellans is they can't hold this level of information. Please correct me if I am wrong. None of them have particularly "blown my skirt up". My only complaint with the Mio is the lack of tolerance to water. It does not love being wet at all. I am getting sick of repairing the Mio when it is wet and was hoping to find a replacement PDA/GSPr running Windows Mobile. I have resorted to using a plastic bag to protect the beast in the rain. The rugged PDA's are nothing short of a joke in price. Can anyone suggest a good replacement for the Mio P550? Unfortuantely, Mitac don't seem to make PDA's anymore. I have a HTC Diamond Touch 2 phone as well - I think these are very over-rated and have seem to have nothing on the Mio for accuracy. Even if someone has a good second hand Mio P550 they don't want a princely sum for, I would willing to look at purchasing it. One cannot have enough spares. I am in Australia - but will pay via PayPal. Comments and opinions are welcome :-)
  22. Disregard - I see where to log. I am now at the same stage as everyone else in the known universe... "An Error Has Occurred" when trying to log
  23. I had the recent pleasure of doing one of these caches recently - and I thorougly enjoyed it. I uploaded said file after completing - and got a big thumbs up. I had no errors or anything. I logged on geocaching.com as per normal. The only problem is when I click on "View your Logs", it tells me "No matching records were found". Should it show the log that I did in geocaching.com? Wherigo is a very under-rated feature of geocaching I believe. The next nearest one to me is 700 odd kms away - a pity really.
  24. Could not have said it better. The same thing happened to me - I logged a DNF after not being able to find a cache up a very steep hill. The CO went to GZ and could see I had been in the area and offered me to log a find. I politely refused their offer and I went back and dragged my carcass up the steep hill again to find the cache and log that find. I would rather cache with the forementioned integrity - and I would sincerely hope other fellow serious cachers would do the same. It just goes to show that the game has different meanings to different people. No offence - but I will have to agree to disagree with you here. Luketrocity. That's fine, but one in particular do you disagree with? To be honest I did not agree with any of what you said - except that you stated that it is a game. When I play games, I like to follow the rules of games. How would a game like baseball go if everyone just ran whether they hit the ball or not? I could claim that I got the most runs. Doesn't seem like an exciting - nor fair game to me? A cacher can always plan for contigencies of a problem with a cache (have a pen, some spare paper, have a pair of 50c tweezers) I guess the problem occurs at most when the people that do this ARE or BECOME competitive against others. For me, right from the first cache, I have always stuck by the rules.
