  1. We've been caching in this: (picture at the starting point for the wonderful Trilithons cache) for almost 2 years now. Must say that we are especially happy with the milage these days I've enjoyed seeing the variety of vehicles in this thread! --Alison
  2. We've been out of the area for a while - moved to Portland and adopted out our "Pinole Cat" cache just over a year ago - but I just wanted to note that apparantly it and the other cache in Richmond's Point Pinole Regional Shoreline (part of EBRPD) have been removed today. From the posted note, it sounds like word came from higher-up: "Cache has been removed by the park ranger under orders from his boss. He has the cache in his office if anyone wants it." Anyway, just thought I'd add those data points; the Point Pinole caches are not the most popular and so probably on most local cachers' radar, but I like to think they introduced many folks to the park who otherwise wouldn't have thought to venture up to Richmond... --Alison
  3. Just reserved A1 for Friday and Saturday night - we'll try not to go to sleep so early this time! That's it for the upper part of the loop, but there are still a bunch of lower ones left... Can't believe we're reserving this far ahead - we only just bought our tickets back east for New Years! Very cool! --Alison
  4. Yes, I had the same thing, though my logs actually posted OK. Got a similar message when I tried to email another cacher through the site, and haven't yet gotten my Cc:ed copy, so I don't know if it went through... --Alison
  5. Fractal's MME #03 is _real_ close to the Hillsboro Fairgrounds station, and our Good Neighbors is about 0.8 miles from the same station. --Alison edited about 6times because for some reason I can't type today!
  6. We've had 4 (now 5) different people recommend this hike - it's definitely on our "to-do before summer ends" list (it's thundering outside - that doesn't mean summer's over, does it??). Thanks for reminding me about it! We'll be sure to wear our hiking boots, and hopefully not fall off the mountain --Alison
  7. Hey, we're going on vacation the following Friday, so this sounds good to us. Anyone with travel bugs wanting to get to Virginia Beach/the East Coast should bring them... Thanks, Kiwimonster! -Alison

    MME#04

Stopped by right at sunset - after being bested by the ESP cache this morning, hit a couple of Fractal's micros in the cool of evening. Had nothing to trade, and managed to squash Kiwi's bungy cord back in. Nice hide!
  9. We don't know you either (being pretty new to the area ourselves), but have enjoyed meeting other local cachers - a new event cache would be great! And coincidentally we were just making plans to come see Iolanthe this weekend (we both played in the pit orchestra for G&S in college, and now I've got "when you're lying awake with a dismal headache and repose is tabooed by anxiety..." running through my head...) - nice to know there's a geocaching connection there! Break a leg! -Alison of AlisonAndy
  10. We just got A-37. See you all in tentsville! --Alison
  11. Yes, we just confirmed that we can go - will sign up on the webpage soon - looking forward to meeting you'all (some for the second time ("Schedule Cleared" was much fun ), some for the first...). We expect to camp Fri/Sat night, but haven't actually reserved a spot yet. Should be lots of fun! --Alison
  12. We went out and found LOG IT tonight - nice cache! We'll be happy to be its adoptive owners - thanks again, JeepLife! We updated the logbook, too. --Alison and Andy
  13. Hi Jeeplife, We had to adopt out our own cache ("Pinole Cat" in the SF Bay area - not quite Sacramento but close) when we moved up here a couple of months ago, so adopting one of yours would seem appropriate somehow . "LOG IT" is quite near us, but we haven't looked for it yet - would you be OK with us adopting it if we can find it in the next couple of days? Happy moving! --Alison of AlisonAndy
  14. Golden Bear Heh, saw a bunch of activity on this on our watch list, thought I'd chime in briefly. At the end of our Golden Bear log, I said something like "left a small chemical description of the cache" - it's cute, not a clue, but I guess KDF liked it enough to add it to the cache name. Yes, it ties into having been a chemistry grad student, or at least to what I found lying around the lab that I could leave in the cache . Good luck to the searchers - as I said in our log, I think it's doable, but maybe not fair... We're enjoying the Pacific NW - our favorite cache so far up here has been The Pipeline*, which entailed a mile hike up a high-pressure feed pipe for a hydroelectric station. Wish we had more time for caching! Good luck with Au Be Ar and others (brief plug here for our given-up-for-adoption bay area cache, Pinole Cat). Happy caching! --Alison
  15. We're new here, so how the h*** would we have plans already? We'd love to meet some local cachers - put us down for a strong maybe!
  16. Thanks, Fizzymagic! Like Pepper's husband, I'll be joining the Wintel monopoly , but at Intel in Hillsboro as a Process Engineer. The semiconductor industry should be a very interesting, and I'm definitely ready for a change from academics. Andy is bemused, because he's always been a Linux/AMD kind of guy; none of our 3 computers actually have Intel processors (but don't tell my new boss that!). He is going to take a couple of months off to write "the great American computer game" before starting to job-hunt himself (or try to sell his game, if it's gone really well...) There look to be some good caches up there, too, though we'll have to get used to hiking in the rain... Wow, we packed four whole boxes before coming back to the internet. Onwards! --Alison
  17. Hey, congratulations, team Supergenius! We will also be moving up to the Pacific NW (though not as far north as you). We agree with quote: Now we find a house and cache! - and we actually already found a house! It's even about 1000 feet from this cache - which we could not find on our first attempt ! Durn evil micros... Anyway, back to my regular lurking, and maybe some packing... and hopefully a little more caching before we leave the wonderfully cache-dense bay area... thanks, everyone, for all the caches! --Alison (and Andy)
  18. We don't actually bike to caches, but have been to some that I would consider bikeable . You've found some of the Berkeley-area Bayside ones, but I think the others - like Back Atcha, Looney Tunes (easy bike from El Cerrito Plaza), New Stinky (bike from Downtown Berkeley BART or up from Emeryville?), and Trifecta (ditto) would be fine as long as you don't mind locking your bike up while you do the final bit of hunting. Veruca and Clue Stick are in hill park that's a relatively flat and short ride from the El Cerrito Del Norte station (though neither of these have been found in a while, and I'm not 100% sure there's a bike rack near the park). Finally, if you want some hills that are maybe less challenging than getting all the way up to Tilden, Trifecta Vista (from the El Cerrito BART - great views) and Benner Canyon (in the Berkeley hills, but not all the way up - a wonderful park) are both really nice. Hope this helps, and happy caching! --Alison
  19. (note if anything looks wrong - this post is the first test of our Avatar and link-making ability ) Shadow cliffs sounds great; we haven't done much caching to the east of the hills, so all the caches there are new to us (as is the park itself). Are you considering cache games (the gathering in Sunolin February had a very fun one involving finding envelopes with playing cards, to try to garner the best poker hand)?... I've also heard of people planting a new geocache to commemorate the event (one person brings an ammobox or tupperware; everyone else brings a trinket; then I guess you have a mass search for a hiding place... and a massive averaging of the coordinates...) Anyway, will now go post a note at the event cache itself. By the way, Team Drasalites, Andy says to mention that he played a Yazirian in his youth. I (Alison) have only a vague idea of what he's talking about. --Alison

  21. And a fine event it was in Sunol, too, Chobe..er.. Eric! We had a great time at Two Two Two in February, and would definitely love to attend another one (maybe organize, but later - we're pretty busy this summer). We're in the northern part of the East Bay, but if it were on a weekend that we're around we would probably drive south Thanks!

  23. Funny you should bump this thread up today: We heard the end of Living on Earth while coming back from a brief Geocaching expedition today . They read a listener's reply to the original Geocaching story (which we missed, but saw the transcript of). The replier was a Letterboxer, touting that sport as the original and thus better variant. Said that searching for a box of trinkets with a device that told you just where to find it is just so... _American_ somehow... --Alison (of team alisonandy) (my first post in the forums, so apologies for any breach of netiquette
