  1. WF-Fuzzies- I love your redo of the "Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" Long live Veggie Tales! "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  2. ray, do you have an e-mail? "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  3. rayt333, do you have an e-mail? "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."

  5. Converted both to "Buy It Now" on ebay at the URL's listed at a geocacher's request!. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  6. My buddy and I have upgraded to the Vista, we're both selling our Venture's. Mine has a data cable, his doesn't. Both on E-Bay; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34289&item=3016068729&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34289&item=3016070060&rd=1 Thanks. 7. Kind of a stretch, comparing your personal hygiene with geocaching, but whatever works for you Jeremy. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  8. I live in a very isolated community, less than 8000 and we are only accesible from air, water. The majority of our geocaching activity happens when the tourists get off of the cruise ships or airliners in the summer, some for half day visits up to several days. SO if the tourists wanted to leave some caches here, I'm fairly certain that the cachers here (and there are dreariy few) would dig it. Two that were put out here by a local have been ignored, so we're going to revive them now that we have some daylight and snow is gone. In the grand scheme of things, there are many more important things to be concerned about, eh? "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  9. Important Emmotional Counseling Note: If you are upset or mad about anything, that, my friend is YOUR problem, not theirs. You just hand them your feelings and emotions when you allow them to 'make' you mad. I think I would fall over dead from shock if the majority of people would volunteer to keep an eye on the 'Tourist Cache', vs. *****ing about it. Try assuming honest intentions, contact the intruding tourist and offering assistance. Wait, what am I saying, that will NEVER happen! "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  10. I just upgraded from the Venture. I also teach a Navigation/Search and Rescue class for Raytheon Polar services, and they use a Garmin 12. I also use some magellans in the training. A student brought a Vista to the class one morning, and after I saw the electronic compass, and expanded memory, I knew the upgrade would happen soon after. Bought it at Amazon.com for $283.00, and right now Garmin has a $50.00 rebate deal going on, you can download the coupon from the Garmin website. I haven't used the altimeter much, but I like it and it's functions are easy to understand. I live at sea level, so it's easy to calibrate at home. Can't wait to load local topo's. As far as cover affecting the antenna, yea it's an issue in heavy cover. But if satellites are overhead, patience generally rewards with a fix. I live in S.E. Alaska, a temperate rainforest, and I rely on mine when hunting in heavy wet cover. Hasn't failed to get me back to the boat yet. Good luck. 11. Many folks (like myself) use this new sport to learn more about GPS technology. Which,I'm sure is acceptable by the creators. Thankfully, many had patience with my questions about technology limitations. And since we have control over our cache page content, we can edit as needed. What a way cool system! "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  12. "Hi iceman, one of the best collaborative initiatives we have is the lockbox. We hide keys for first-finders in multiple caches, more than any one team can find. Prizes are locked in the box, no collaboration, no prizes. Let me know more about your scenario & goals and let me find out what else we have that may suit your goals." I assume all keys are required to open the lockbox? Thaks. Rick "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  13. I'm going to be in Phoenix enroute Page, so we're looking for cool crutch-accessible cache suggestions, I tore my achilles tendon loose last Wed., and will be a bit limited. Thanks in advance. 14. You gotta' be careful you know... If a tired and distracted boat skipper is driving down the road, and he hears 6 blasts followed by one long blast, he may jump from his vehicle. That's an abandon ship signal. And maybe a military aircrewman may hear 6 followed by one and spontaneously egress from his vehicle. Or a frustrated gang banger may be stuck in traffic, fondling his "9", thinking about knocking off an ATM, hears your horn which was exactly what it took to trip him off line, and he blows your a** out of your car. Careful what signals you may be sending... Besides, being honked at while hunting a cache is distracting. And who needs distractions. Hey, what was that?? "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  15. I would pay for the software. Running a G3, OS 9.22-OSx USB, Firewire. Sounds great! Hurry! "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  16. I'm putting one in a difficult cache, a paddle cache. It's just one of the geocoins, generic. Cheap enough, but neat to have in your pocket, or pass to another cache somewhere else. I'll post it as original contents to get the ball rolling. Not many caches here in Sitka, or cachers for that matter. So I do what I have to.. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  17. I can't find the name of the book I saw mentioned in the groups before, something like "Hiding Things in Public Places"? Am I close, anyone have the correct name? Thanks. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  18. Will be on business in January between Phoenix and Page, with two free days to do some caching. Recommendations for best caches with best views, etc? Would love to hit them all, but not as much time as I would like. May stay over in Sedona or Flagstaff. Thanks. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  19. I have two caches up above snowline, and road access is to be closed Nov. 1. I would like to bring them down to the road system for the winter, and then back up in the Spring when it melts down again. It is highly unlikely, given the population of this town (8000) and remoteness (Sitka, AK) that there will be any traffic to the site during this time. Am I violating any unwritten code/law/belief, etc? Thanks. "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  20. Cool idea. Could be in a tyvek envelope pre-paid mailer maybe, so it gets back to you when it's done? I like it! "There's no need to be afraid of strange noises in the night. Anything that intends you harm will stalk you silently."
  21. I found out I have a friend who is a scout leader here in Sitka, and when I described geocaching to him, he asked me to come give a presentation to his scout troop. This coincides with me planting a multi-cache this weekend, so it should work out great. This will undoubtedly lerad to parents getting involved. Thanks for the suggestions. Don't wait until tomorrow. Get out and do it now, before you wake up and look at the mirror, and the person looking back at you asks you why we never did those things?!!

  23. I recently taught a Search and Rescue class for a group that works in Palmer Station, Antarctica. We used geocaching in our GPSmap & compass training. That crew is heading down soon, and they have promised to place a cache on an island near Palmer Station. They have a 2-mile limit of travel from Station, so it should'nt be too hard to find! 25. Living in Sitka, AK. (Southest Alaska) We have a total of 7 caches, (I think.) I have planted three of them. I want to promote the sport/activity here. There are roughly 8000 residents. And you get here by boat or Alaska Airlines, no driving here. Many cruise ship folks hop off for the day and find the caches occasionally. Would going through a University (we have two) program work, local newspaper, etc? We have an incredible amount of public land here, the mountains are behind us, the ocean at our door kind of thing. I'm looking for advice from experienced promoters and other great ideas. Don't wait until tomorrow. Get out and do it now, before you wake up and look at the mirror, and the person looking back at you asks you why we never did those things?!!
