  1. sorry . . . but I wish they could show up on the "view map" map that I use every time I plan my caching trips. (not the link that takes you to the mapless Waymarking page) Do they? Will they? Or just the old ones?

  3. Okay, good to know, hadn't noticed that yet. Handier than I thought but still getting used to the format and using it. Now, if it would just count in my "finds" I'd be happy! A lot of us are pretty sad that it doesn't.
  4. A little intimidated to post here, but would like to add the "average participating" geocaching family 2 cents: We've been discussing the new arrangement in our local SoCal circle of cachers and honestly, most don't like the separate website at first glance. However, after hearing from those that know more than we do, and in the spirit of giving things a chance, my family may slowly find its way into participating. We have seen too many very cool things across the country almost entirely because of virtuals to think of never looking for them again. If the logistics are such that we "average" cachers just can't grasp an understanding as to why things have to change and this is the only way to do things, I think you will find many happier and appeased cachers if there was a way to tie the two sites together. It would be great if waymarks could still show up on the cache maps as that is how many of us plan trips and outings. It would also be great if one profile worked for both sites and if at least virtuals counted as "finds" and "hides". I would almost even trade virtuals counting for no locationless caches. (Although my family will tell you the coolest "find" we have is helping a turtle cross the road which we would have never done without the locationless cache - of course, now we save all turtles, just hadn't thought to do such a thing!) Many will say it's about the adventure and not the numbers, but on some days it is about the numbers for many (if not most) of us and some days its not. It's more like "collecting finds" than racing anyone, so many of us would be much more likely to log finds if they counted in our stats. I will encourage others to read and post here so you get more supoprt making your members happy by finding the best possible solution for all. Thanks! -MamaFish of Hot Cup of Cold Fish
  5. I like the use of cachers' pictures in the gc.com banner. I have talked to other cachers, and they like me, will refresh the page to scroll through the different offerings. Is there a gallery where one could see the pictures used for the banners? If there isn't could there be? (This subject has probably been covered)
  6. I am fairly new to this hobby, and my family and I enjoy it immensely. I’ve found that elitism has nothing to do with wealth or fine things. A drug addict will have a “better than you”, elitist, attitude because “you haven’t been through what I’ve gone through.” Elitism is an attitude not dollar sign. I don’t mind the $30 to support the ability to do the sport. My 13 year old son wanted his own membership so he could strut his independence. I’m not sure that I want to pay another membership just so he can post MO logs (now I know he can), but I may do it because it isn’t that big an expense. My favorite post is: My coaches use to say, when some one got too excited about the outcome of a game, “there are a billion Chinese people don’t know you played tonight.” I really enjoy this hobby, but there are 6 billion people on this planet that don’t know what geo caching is. hcocf
  7. My family and I are just starting out. I could use some opinions on which GPS units others use and why. I want to stay under $300. Thanks
