  1. Well Ive had a good play about after upgrading to premium membership Got a sample of GPX files, and used easyGPS to open them and see what info was in the GPX file prior to uploading onto the magellan.. It appears that you can select which fields you want uploaded into the Magellan, so i opted for Geocach ID Container Difficulty Terrain Waypoint Comment Lat Lon Hint (decrypted) I also set the icon for each cache as a skull and crossbones, so it gives the little one somthing to look for After uploading to the Magellan, I get the following displayed Waypoint Lat Lon Hint Decrytped I can then edit the comment & Icon on the Magellan to show the cache status once we've either found it or not!! Because the magellan also has downloadable detailed maps, it makes the roads side of it easy:) I havnt tried pulling the data back from the Magellan to the pc (via easyGPS) so i dont yet know if i can then upload into my geocache log. Does this constitute paperless caching? Mart
  2. Well that works I used easy gps to transfer it to the Meridian, and it worked. It also has the option for geocaching, to add the decrypted hint as well, (which is a godsend to us newbies) ther is another transfer utility to try as well, so i'll see which one is the easier to use cheers Mart
  3. Thanks for that... the magellan has a fair bit of uk support, as the mapping software is uptodate, and the firmware has had a latest revision. I,ll keep poking around and see what i can come up with cheers mart
  4. Hi, I picked up a magellan meridian from fleabay last week, and have found more caches with this, than my mobile phone method haha Quick Q though. does the meridian support gpx files? or would they need some massaging to put onto the meridian? Mart
  5. Thanks for the help, I didnt realise you couldn't send GPX files, (how bizzare considering its a gps forum ?) The model is a Magellan meridian regs Mart
  6. Can someone send me a GPX file of a cache please I want to see what info my GPS unit extracts and displays. compared to the web cache page I cant get one off the geocaching site, as i'm not a premium member yet. But if my gps unit wont accept gpx files, theres not really much point upgrading my membership / downloading them. Mart
  7. A couple of times, we have been looking for caches that are located on or near to public bridleways. However due to innacuracies with the GPS , its often hard to determine if the cache is:- on, near , or located off the bridleway (a hedge say). At what point should you call it a day. We feel very uncomfortable looking on the back side of a hedges for caches, that are shown on a bridleway, as technically its someone elses property. Anyone else feel that same way, or is it just us Mart
  8. Been using my Samsung omnia with GcZII to do some geocaching. i'm now perplexed... i manged to download 4 or so caches and find them, now it seems to have gone pete tong I downloaded 5 caches tonight, all as one loc file, and it loads the first cache, but then says unable to load rest of the caches. I downloaded them as individual loc files, but it still wont find, access some of them. I also noted that if i enter a set of lat/long co-ords, whilst out geocaching, it insists on connecting to the internet ?? why i have no idea, is it just bugs with the GczII programme, or are some of the loc files on the site corrupt? regs Mart
  9. Sad news that the powers that be don't want to play ball, As a relelative newcomer to the activity, were fortunate not to be anywhere near the affected areas, However as soon as i saw the "P" word, i had to pipe up. And its not Parks , but petitions. Many years ago i read an article relating to petitions, ( odd article, but very informative) A petition may seem like a good idea, 1 - 6000 people all sign a document and its presented to the powers that be. Unfortunatly for some bizzare reason of which it eludes me, only the first signature on a petition is actually seen as a valid signature, so the other xxxxx signatures are not seen, and everything is treated as 1 petition. However if the same 1 - 6000 people each sign an individual petiton, and send it , it is seen as 1 - 6000 petitions, and far more likely to be looked at. HTH Mart BTW "If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal "

Trouble is everytime, it keeps asking for my username and password, i duly enter these and it still asks for them saying there is an error?? Any ideas, or is it me.... (managed to get within spitting distance of my first cache, on tuesday, but too many people around to go into furtive mode) Mart
