  1. Hello all! I have seen quite a few new caches pop up in my area but have not been able to get the FTFs on any of them. One time I happened to be online and I saw a new cache that had been published about 20 minutes ago and no one had found it yet, so we hopped in the ole' Cachemobile and drove over to the cache, but then, we saw footprints near the cache and tire marks, and I checked and some Geocacher from out of town that has never found any other caches in our area had beaten me to it. And sure enough, I looked over my shoulder and there was a car with a Geocaching sticker on it about a 100 yards down the road. I thought that it was just bad luck, but sure enough, a new multi popped up and to save you're time, the exact same thing happened. Is there some way to get a notification on you're phone when a new cache pops up on the map or do we just have to get a faster car?

    Thanks! -Dennis

There is a multi cache in my neighbourhood that I was visiting waypoints from on my way from home to work or vise versa. I used the app to visit them, log de data I needed for the next waypoint and changed the location of the next waypoint in my app. The next time I would go to work, I visited the next waypoint, etc. I finished all waypoints that way, but I never got around to finding the cache. Now, I thought I would go search for it, but in the meantime, the listing has changed and there have been some changes in the order of the waypoints. One or two waypoints have been deleted by the owner and there is a new end coordinate. I see the new waypoints on the site, but in the app, it keeps showing all the old waypoints, including the ones that have been removed by the owner and the old order. I would like to update them so I can see the new order and the ones I don't need disappear.

I allready tried logging out, removing the app, reinstalling the app en logging in, but that didn't solve it.

    Any ideas?

Did you end up visiting the originial final waypoint? I would recommend visiting those coords and if nothing is there, contact the CO and tell him what's going on. Moving the waypoints seems like a stupid idea to me. If you want to place new stages, just make another multi!

  3. I have noticed that over the past 3 months, I have had 3 people not being able to download my Wherigo. For some it works fine, others not so much. For the people who it did work for (nearly everyone) they said that it worked very smoothly. Out of the three people that couldn't download the cartrige, 2 were using Androids and 1 was using a garmin Colarado. What's going on?!

    Hi all,

We have moved house and have 2 caches that we would like to put up for adoption. One is GC3P6RF Church Micro 2810... Leeds it is a great cache with several favourite points. Once at GZ it has lovely views of the castle.

The other is a simple hide in Harrietsham GC2HG3F Hamster Hair. Room for swaps and TBs in this one.

Message us if you are interested.

    Thanks Discoadventurers

Could you provide some area codes or tell us where these caches are? Keep in mind that this is an International forum and the chances of someone in you're area seeing this isn't too likley. I would recommend spreading the word at an event in you're area.

    Cheers!

  5. When I hide a cache, I usally look for a place that is kind of out of the way to increase it's life span. I also might look for an area that has some kind of history that is enough to set the area out of the ordinary. When I hid my first cache, I took the quote I found in Geocaching 101 to heart.

"When you go to hide a geocache, think of the reason you are bringing people to that spot. If the only reason is for the spot, then build a better cache." Also, I would recommend getting some caches under you're belt, (I'd say about 20) and taking the quiz

If you'll tell us exactly what you have, we can check to see what software control mechanism is intended for it.

The Camera I got is a Reolink E1 Pro. It can Connect to 5G internet (Unlike many other cameras) And has Pan/tilt. When you connect it to you're internet from you're computer (which I haven't done yet" There's an option that says "add media source", which means that you can put the feed up on a website like Youtube. My question though is how do I set it up so that you can move the camera from a website.

  7. Hello all! Yesterday, I downloaded the New Wherigo app onto my Phone and was very pleased with it. It is a lot better than the old one and works great. I especially enjoy the function where you can download the cartridges from the app instead of having to go to the listings. Hwoever, I did notice that there are some cartridges that I can't download. I went into the old Wherigo app and I noticed that some of the Cartriges I couldn't get on the new app where already downloaded on the old app. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks! -Dennis

  8. So I got the camera I needed for Christmas, and I found a cool spot to mount it that has Wifi and is pretty hidden. What I am doing is having the cacher move the camera either with their hand or online and if I can get it to move online than I will also look in to making it Zoom in (my camera can do that)and make it so that it needs to focus on a plaque that has the coordinates on it that leads to the second stage. but What I am still unsure about is if I would label it as a multi or a mystery. Does anyone know? Thanks all! Happy New Year!

  9. Hello all, I recently saw a log on one of my Multis: I found the Cleveland browns cache. there are no bleachers. It is pretty clear that this cacher only did stage 1, Most likley because he didn't know how a multi works. However, When I first started caching I did the same thing and she let it slide. I would send them a message but I have found that a lot of younger cachers don't know what the message center is. I think I'll let this one slide, but how do I use better judgement in the future? Happy holidays!- Dennis

Good question and good answer.  I do think that the structure of Virtual Reward Caches dealt adequately with the problems which led to the grandfathering of virtuals:

    • Old virtuals "took up a spot" which could have held a physical cache in many cases.  Virtual Reward caches are not subject to the Cache Saturation guideline.
    • Old virtuals could be "spammed" - I recall an example where every historic marker in a small city was submitted as a separate virtual cache.  Virtual Rewards are a limited commodity - one per account.
    • Old virtuals could only be published if they met the "wow factor" test - featuring a location that made the visitor say "wow, I never knew this was here" or "wow, I learned something I didn't know about," etc.  With Virtual Rewards being a limited commodity, the recipient is more likely to pick a location with "wow factor" rather than wasting their one Virtual on a street sign or historic marker.  As a result, Community Volunteer Reviewers do not review for "wow factor" and thus there are no disputes about the eligibility of a location, as was the case week in and week out during the years leading up to the grandfathering of Old virtuals.

My point is now that Virtuals have grown less common, A person who receives a Virtual reward would be more lenient to put a Virtual in a location where geocaching isn't allowed in a spot that is a big "wow" factor such as a state park that doesn't have a cell phone signal, so no ALs can be put there. All in all, I do agree with HQ's choice and your point of view.

So you mean that grandfathering of the original virtuals could have been avoided by using these guidelines?

Yes, I think that they would not have been grandfathered if Virtuals and Webcams had an opt in reward program similar to ALs from the start. It would have been interesting to see what would happend if this took place.

What is your source for this statement?  I was part of the decision-making process for stopping the publication of new virtuals way back in 2005, but perhaps my memory has failed me.

I have heard from Numorus people who have been caching a lot longer for me that virtuals weren't just as special anymore and that there wasn't as many interesting spots. I know that I'm talking in circles, but there are so many cool and interesting spots that don't allow physical caches or you can't get a cell phone signal from for ALs. Even if they don't do another round of VRs, I would be happy with just being able to do ALs on a GPSr. Does this make any sense? Thanks everyone!

  15. This is exactly why

Sadly your friend is wrong because Groundspeak announced they are giving 500 more AL to random player that placed at least one AL before today....

I hope I am not getting a third I have no idea where I would put those 5 cheap +1.

This is why Virtuals were origanally grandfathered- there were too many virtuals and all the most remarkable places were taken up and replaced with not so interesting virtuals. They have been grandfathered for quite some time now and the numbers have dwindled away (at least in my area, I am sure that there are many old archived virtuals that weren't mantained) so why not bring back virtuals in some kind of opt-in or reward manner? I think that sadly ALs are going down the same path as Virtuals.

Also they are sadly continuing to give more AL credits even if they have pushed to the right many times already the expiry time of current AL credits.

I heard at an event from one of my caching freinds that they thought that Groundspeak is kind of slowing down on the ALs. I wouldn't be suprised if they grandfather them soon. From what I've heard HQ was really pushing the Adventure labs.
