  1. No, I found Beverly with ODragon, it was a return visit for him. He told me that container he found was not an ammo can. The logbook had some years on it, but not all the way back to 2000. Okay, so it appears that GC12 is the oldest, originally intact active cache with the original logbook. Since the one in NZ has been converted to a virtual, The Spot would be the second oldest, originally intact active geocache in the world. Ouch!! Confusing New Zealand for Australia could get you in a lot of trouble down under. We like our trans-tasman cousins over on the West Island, seemingly a lot of us want to go and live there these days, personally the thought of wearing ankle bracelets all the time isn't my cup of tea. I think you are referring to GC3E Lane Cove. (Don't get me started on my opinion on converting to virtual just to stay on the oldest active list - it ain't the real cache so should have been archived a long time ago). The oldest New Zealand cache is still GC46. On the subject of original containers who gives a rats? Containers get replaced all the time. Build a bridge and get over it.
  2. It looks like our fellow Kiwi from further up State Highway 1 is about to do a draw so it must be time to introduce ourselves. Guwapo consists of Papa, Mama and Guwapo himself. Our caching name is our nickname for our little boy which means 'handsome' in Filipino. We have been caching since being introduced on January 2010. It has been a great driver to get outside and see our great country. We live in Dunedin, a few hours drive south of the OP, whose coin collection we are keen to see in person some day. Geocoin collecting started after the 10/10/10 multi-event last year and although it hasn't become an addiction it is certainly a habit. Kind wish, Salamat
  3. What are the top two rows of coins please - I've seen them before recently and it's driving me mad that I can't remember where!! The back of the Compass Rose 2011 coins Yup, that's where it was on - the very limited edition ebay auctions.
  4. What are the top two rows of coins please - I've seen them before recently and it's driving me mad that I can't remember where!!
  5. I'd get the spell checker out before you print a whole heap of those!!! :yikes:
  6. Here is Guwapo striding out following Papa, GPS in hand, on the hunt for some 'treasure' around Roxburgh, Central Otago, New Zealand.
  7. Adoption email arrived this morning and completed. Thanks a lot for the cointest plumbrokeacres. Hopefully our coin will make it all the way to Broad Bay, Dunedin, New Zealand. Feel free to follow it's journey here. Maraming Salamat!
  8. It is your business, if you care, to pick up other persons trash.
  9. I'm in for a customised multi event coin for 29/2 (yes we do dates this way down under ) depending on minimum quantities and artwork. I'm not sure there would be the same level of interest as there was for 11/11/11 coins. I'd be keen to get some of NOSNOW's as well.
  10. Not the same thing, I believe the OP was referring to trackables that had been in the wild (he discovered them four years ago) and had quite a bit of history. As G&C says - history is history, winding back the odometer is illegal in this country. :o
  11. I'm sure your coin would love to come down under and spend time in one of the most beautiful (we are biased I know ) places on the planet - New Zealand, starting it's journey on the wonderful spectacular Otago Peninsula near Dunedin. Kind wish, Guwapo
  12. The Dunedin event, which greatly assisted by the International Date Line was probably the first event to start, was a great success also. It got a bit cramped but everybody had a good time, sharing caching stories. We also have a few left over from the event and are willing to trade/sell the leftover coins. For trades we are looking for the following event coins. For those of you that contacted me before the event, I will be sending an individual email. Emails will be answered in the order in which they were received. Pricing for the coin for those that wish to purchase is NZD$22.50 (NZD$15 for the coin and NZD$7.50 for the shipping). Event versions that we are looking for: Western Australia Hawaii Denver Costa Brava Bavaria (Guwapo says the glitter reminds him of the sugar crystals on his birthday cake). Napa-Sacramento New York Santa Cruz Florida Indiana Emerald Coast Salamat, Thank you
  13. Just got home from great event! Hope you all enjoy yours. Maraming Salamat! Ingat Guwapo, Mama & Papa
  14. Morning all, it's a fine and mild day here in Dunedin. It's just gone 9:30 am on the 11/11/11. City Centre TV Weather Cam Just over 8 hours before our 11-11-11 event starts. Some local 11-11-11 news. We hope you all have an enjoyable and pleasant Rememberance Day. Look forward to reading some good stories, don't hesitate to post.
  15. I don't know about you but in Dunedin, it's just gone 9:00 am on a balmy morning on the 1st November. Wahoo !!!! :D 10 More Days to go!!!
  16. I'd like to be on that list too... if it's okay. Happy to swap with Dunedin coin. ;)
  17. When I first came across these event coins after the 10/10/10 event I naively thought that the colour schemes were state colours. After seeing a few more I realised that they were actually the personal expressions of the event hosts. With that in mind I thought I would share the background behind the Dunedin coin. The Dunedin Coin The coin is predominately bare metal with an antique bronze finish. This relates to the medals of the period. The metal finish also relates to the brasswork, including bullet and shell cases, that were part of a soldiers lot during the war. Blue and gold are the colours of Otago, the province which has Dunedin as its largest city, the blue linking both sides of the coin. The gold celebrates the gold rush era of the 1860's where much of Dunedin's early wealth came from. The jade centre and outer ring on the back celebrate the "Pounamu" or greenstone which is only found in the South Island of New Zealand. Te Wahi Pounamu (The Place of Greenstone) is a Māori name for the South Island.
  18. If that was your entire postage cost then I'm seriously jealous! Me too!! I'm thinking like me they payed for postage through Oakcoins and the 35 CHF is the brokerage fees to get it through customs. Of course it was not the entire postage cost, but I guess I was never told the actual shipping costs, all I paid was a set price for the coins and shipping. 35 CHF is only the tax the postal offices take when they have to work for the customs and determine the VAT. In all, I had to add 49.90 CHF (roughly 55 US$) for the coins to cross the border and get to me. $US90 shipping to New Zealand Hopefully no GST(=Tax) (otherwise that's another $NZ93) and hopefully no Import & MAF fee (another $NZ37.25)... and if they charge all that then they will also charge Duty... that's another $NZ62... so all up I could be up for over $NZ192 (over $US146) of Tax, Duty and Fees!!! OMG Guwapo and funkymunkyzone - did you get charged GST, ITF/BSEL or Duty? No fees Chris
