I have the same etrex as you and when i use the compass , in the upper right hand corner under the box that shows xxx mi i go till it says feet and take it till it get where it should be . 1< to 6 ft. i have wass eabled.I dont stop walking till it get as low# in feet as it will go. i hold the unit dead level as i can. hope this helps vern
