  1. I have a Legend C and use EasyGPS, I selected the 60c or 60cs setup and it works seemless with my Legend C and the USB connection.
  2. We have a similar program at my EMS base, we offer free seminars on Woods Smarts and Dog Awareness. DOG AWARENESS is designed to teach children how to interact with both familiar and unfamiliar dogs. “WOODS SMARTS” is designed to teach children how not to get lost, what to do if they ever become lost, and some methods to increase their chances of being found quickly.
  3. We will keep her in our prayers. I live in PA, so if anyone knows about an organized search, please post the details. Thanks and God Bless!
  4. Using IE 6, been thinking about Firefox. I ordered a new Dell laptop, so when it arrives, I'm going to try out Firefox on it.
  5. I use two different type of packs, depending on how long/far I am hiking. A Fanny pack for short trips: H2O Marathon A Hydration Pack for longer trips: Ripcord Hydration Both are great and reasonalbly priced.
  6. I have the Garmin Auto Mount, the window suction mount. Works Great!
  7. If caching in a group, I would give the FTF credit to the actual person who spotted the cache first, it only seems fair and it would be rare that more than one person in the group would spot it at the same time.
  8. I've left several company logo swag in caches; pens, golf ball sets, slinkies, golf tee sets and magnet stick figures. For my first cache that I'm going to hide in the next couple of weeks, it will include two Motorola FRS radios that we were giving out at trade shows, so these aren't too lame for caches.

    New Laws

There are several states that require a premit to place caches on state lands. Here's a link to the State of PA's requirements: PA DNR - Geocaching PADNR is a great supporter of Geocaching and there are thousands of caches in PA State Parks, so i wouldn't get too alarmed if you state wants a permit to place a cache.
  10. Welcome to geocaching! You'll definitely enjoy it!
  11. I've used a ball point pen, but like The Leprechauns said, Sharpies are the best.
  12. Since I normally cache with my 4 y/o son, I try to find the shortest route to the cache, which might not be the intended path that the owner. Right now my son's limit is about a 1/2 mile round trip hike, anything greater thatn that and I'm carrying him out on the return trip back to the car.
  13. This is good to know, since I will be travelling to Germany and India in January and was hoping to take my GPS and do some caching. Thanks for the info!
  14. In PA, you have to have a Concealed Carry Permit, which I do have. My main carry gun is a Colt Mustang 380, which conceals nicely or my Kimber Compact 45. I've only carried it once on geocaching and I would carry it more often if I was caching in more remote locations. But since most of my caching has been in suburbs, I really don't see a need to carry my gun.
  15. I have the eTrex Legend C and a bought the Garmin case just for the use of protecting the screen from scratches. It's worked out fine!
  16. I carry a couple of ball point pens and just in case the weather is cold, a pencil.
  17. When my GPS isn't in my hand, it's either: Hooked to the front of my shoulder straps of my backpack, on long hikes. Or When on short hikes, I use a fanny pack and I keep it in one of the water bottle holders, with a strap securing it to the fanny pack, in case it would fall out.
  18. #3 - Only been a member for a little over a month, the Forums are great!
  19. I couldn't agree more! I've only been geocaching for a little over a month and I gladly paid the fee after my first week of caching. This has been a great experience to get back to doing things that I enjoy and it's an extra plus to see the happy expressions on my boys faces when they find thier hidden treasure. Thanks GC.com !!!
  20. Thanks for the link!!! I'm going to be in Germany in January and this will help me translate some of the German Caches that I plan to do.
  21. I have two caches ready to hide and I’ve picked two areas where to hide them, however, I want to hide them differently than all of the other cache hides that I’ve seen. About 90% of the caches that I’ve found have been hidden in / under / by trees. So, I’m looking for other suggestions on where to hide a cache in the woods, other than the tree option. Thanks for your suggestions!
  22. Here's Niki, our Siberian Husky, lounging on the couch with "Baxter" the travel bug.
  23. Thanks everyone for your tips. I plan to go out this weekend and try a few in the snow. Also, the night caching in the snow sounds pretty cool, too. THANKS!
  24. Since I've only been geocaching since this past fall and now the snow is on the ground, possibly covering the cache locations; What are your TIPS or TRICKS to finding caches in the buried snow? Thanks!
