The power switch itself is dying/dead? The switch doesn't seem to move inwards much, but what can I do about it? Don't want to have to buy a new one.

Hi, I have a Garmin Etrex Venture, a few years old now but today I went and put fresh batteries in it, switched it on and used it for about 1 hour. It wouldn't then switch off, so I took the batteries out and an hour later put them back in (and later a new set) and it wont switch on. Any ideas?

I was about to add this as a topic! A great, effective and simple idea.

Interesting Ebay Auction Garmin Gps 15 (8)
Marvo434 replied to one4zorro's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
couldn't find the lot on e bay, item number please or has it gone? Did find these though, any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...5760320374&rd=1 -
Hi all. I only own one cache, and the last person to find has written a really nice log, but it is a bit too much of a spolier for me. I know I can encrypt the whole thing, which seems a bit over the top, is there any way of just encrypting the spolier part of the log in question? Another thing entirely: I read sevearl other forums on different subjects, and my signature line on them is "Click here. YOU ARE THE SEARCH ENGINE" As a link to geocaching.com. Just a thought for those of you who contribute to other forums on different subjects.

And I am claiming the "FTR" (First to rate) for that list! How sad is that, I am actually happy!

Ikeep meaning to do this series, and in fact may well one day organise an event cache nearby, with an optional tour of this series of 7: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...89-39a1b70905b2 waypoint GCM8NT

NICE ONE, WELL DONE.

Way off topic I know, but possibly some of you will be interested: ASDA are selling a small and neat DVD player for £19.97. It is a region 2 player, but I can tell you how to simply recode it to become multi-region. No skill needed, it only means you press 4 or 5 keys on the remote in the right order, no opening up the works or affecting your warranty! Likewise, Woolworths have a portable DVD with screen which, with the car kit, comes in at £69.98 and again e mail me if you want to multi-region it. In fact, I have the codes for HUNDREDS of different makes and models of DVD players, if you want to multi-region your player e mail me make and model (most important) and I will see if I have it. Hope you don't mind this off topic, it may help some of you and I don't want anything in return. Neil.

I use this link http://www.maporama.com/share/ for exactly that purpose, and the Lat/Long is shown on the same page as the map.

Well I have just placed my first ever cache ( Bedfords park, GCMPBC ) and managed to give a West coordinate that should read East! So instead of Havering Atte Bower, Romford the location I have given shows up in Finchley! To add to my woes, I can't edit it as the move of the cache would appear to be too far. Cache sent back to approver, and me sent back to bottom of the class.

I am certainly no expert, but one model not mentioned so far is mine, an Etrex Venture. I paid £72 on e bay for it, it has the joystick and has done me OK so far except once when I let the batteries run down too far! Whatever is chosen, I personally only do a few a day (so far never more than 2!) so keying in waypoints is no big deal for me. If I was going to do a dozen or more in a day, then i would probably work out how to download them etc. I went for the venture over the "yellow" because of WAAS, but still don't really understand what WAAS is!

This does lead on a bit from the IOM topic, but probably worthy of a thread of its own. Has anyone yet offered or done a Geocaching holiday? I am not talking about a couple of cachers going away for a weekend to a new area, but an organised package holiday, probably abroad, with escorted drop offs near to caching sites, or even a geohike or two? With family commitments, I have to declare that I wouldn't actually want one, but it does seem to me that there may be a call for it! What about setting something up for overseas cachers to come here and be accomodated and assisted in their caching activities? More a thought for discussion than an offer to arrange!

Yes please, been wanting one for months. Ta.

Any Travelbug Want To Go To Florida

Please elaborate on Orlando caching being different. I am there Easter as well, and intend to find a few and leave a TB to make it's way home. -
Fantastic, I'll have some. What about a pre-order to get some of your initial costs back straight away? One question, how big is the oblong plaque type bit in the middle of the compass? Big enough for a team name to be engraved? Superb effort, well done to all involved.

.. Just learnt that if doing a list, best to put a space between the "b" and the ")" otherwise you get a smiley.

Anything involving either: a) Bringing your kids along OR more than 300 yards from a pub gets a difficulty rating of 5.

I have got cache calling cards, but really i expected that they would be left in the cache for the cache owner, perhaps that would be the nicest way of collecting, set up a cache for people to leave their cards in for you to collect! Having said that, i don't really mind at all if a serious collector takes them. Perhaps a cache owner could express a preference, or be asked before you visit the cache what they want. Best place (in my view) for cards is www.vistaprint.co.uk where a set of 250 costs around £3! Ignore the asked questions for address line 1 etc and put in the text you want.
-
Will be there if I can, not a definite but an interested possible maybe perhaps. Urgh, just a thought, if people find the cache without coming to the forums, there is nothing in the cache description to tell them what date (apart from date hidden) or time to attend.

Hi, Done my first ten, so by your regularly quoted statistic I am hooked I suppose, certainly my 7year old twins are! Why buy premium membership though? I don't use the waypoint code in my Etrex Venture, i use a name i will recognise (i.e. Englands first) etc. I don't want to download hundreds of waypoints, I only do one or two at a time with my kids, so feeding in the coordinates is no big hassle. I don't have a pda, nor do I want one. I am unlikely to ever want to do members only caches. I don't want a detailed weekly e mail of 100s of caches I COULD do. So why have I bought into premium membership? Just to support the site and sport/hobby/pastime I suppose. Why did YOU buy in? I am sure I am not alone!

Thanks for that, will do. Marvo434
