  1. Don't know how far you live, but caches placed while on vacation far from home are usually not allowed. Otherwise, what you suggest is allowed and has been done before (with and without snake reference on cachepage). Go for it.

eta: 309 miles from Bremerton to Stehekin?

  2. seems simple enough, from the "cache listings and requirements" page:

    Cache Permanence

When you report a cache on the Geocaching.com web site, geocachers should (and will) expect the cache to be there for a realistic and extended period of time. Therefore, caches that have the goal to move (“traveling caches”), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) most likely will not be listed. If you wish to hide caches for an event, bring printouts to the event and hand them out there.

We realize that it is possible that a planned long-term cache occasionally becomes finite because of concerns with the environment, missing or plundered caches, or the owner’s decision to remove the cache for other valid reasons. Please do your best to research fully, hide wisely, and maintain properly for a long cache life.

  3. not a local, but a frequent visitor (snowmobiling in wayne and susquahanna counties), wishing you well on this event and organizing a group. sorry i can't make it, i'll be instructing at an nra event, but would be interested in trying to make it to another nepa event in the future. best wishes!

  4. i use a vista c, and never have a problem with reception. the gps stays in my coat pocket and works at all temps i've encountered thus far. it even continued to work when i pitched myself over the handlebars and landed on top of the windshield, severely bruising my ribs and cracking the bejeebus out of the gps screen. i still love it and use it the way it is. i think garmin looks rugged with his little badge of honor. ;)

p.s. i've been waypointing major intersections and points of interest (food, gas, lodging, beer, etc) to submit to the trail association for future maps. with all the people using gps these days, it may help newcomers to our trails.
