  1. Hmmmm, I guess it has something to do with the lake water & the Zebra Muscles. Close enough to home I may just stop by and pick the old balls out of the tree house and send them flying. OBTW - they upgraded the landing @ Shades Beach - still smells like stinkey fish
  2. Similar situation happened with this cache last September. Used to live in DuBois & have family there as well, many are long gone. Couple of months the kids and I will be paying a little visit
  3. LOVE dutch oven cooking. Always loaded when the kids & I go car camping. Got all the bugs worked out before going out, doubles as a wash pan when we are done eating. The best dinner we had out of the dutch oven (while car camping) was chicken & biscuts. 4 cans of Progresso chicken soup (pour off broth from 3 cans) - top with (can or homemade) biscuts and cook until biscuts are done. Granted the dutch oven is NOT something you want to carry too far off trail Good dutch oven site with recipes & oven care
  4. My best "power caching day" involved planting a 40+pound cache about 2 miles into the woods over some 3.5-4* terrain On the other hand, take 3 kids caching (who don't want to walk 2 miles) - thats a true power caching adventure
  5. about .5 miles been there for about 8 months waiting for me to come by
  6. I'm leaning heavily towards the Samsung SCH i760. It has a slide out keyboard and everyone who reviews it likes it a lot. I am using Verizon and unfortunately "Geocaching Navigator" doesn't work with them. Add me to the list of those who hated it. I used a treo 650 for over 1.5 years, switched to the samsung for less than a week. I hated the keyboard, could not see the letters pain to figure out how things worked and almost everything done had to be done with the stylus. I tried my best but it never grew on me. I went in with an open mind thinking of all the new features but in the long run I was giving up far more. With the Treo I've got a basic camera, songs, applications, easy to access contacts, one button operation, WAP site, bluetooth, cachemate, games, email Went back to the old superglued Treo 650 and I wont change to anything unless it's a basic phone or another Treo.
  7. I've always thought of geocaching as something to do, nothing more-nothing less. Listening to some folks planning a cache run - too much like work for me. Load a waypoint or two and go for a walk.
  8. This thread has way too much drama for me but after 8 pages I have pull out the ace I've been holding - the same exact thing as this thread. I have been asked to change the wording ONE time on a cache I submitted, you know what I CHANGED IT. I was a little ticked at first but I was able to see beyond the computer. Can you see the light, can you see the light
  9. patches, you got patches drop me a pm/email, would love to trade Airport LEO/ARFF - 18 years edited to add a picture
  10. How am I a noob? Please. The reason I stopped caching was because of 9/11/01 - urban caching in NYC didn't really seem right that fall. Around that time, Cache Ninja and I were scheduled to go out with a New York magazine reporter on a boat and plant a cache on a buoy in the harbor - obviously that wasn't going to work after that terrible day and I eventually lost interest. Thanks to Merge, who recently started doing this, I started again. Feel free to drive to Brooklyn and find my new caches. SHAbam!!!!!!!!!! hey fats dont take the n00b thing the wrong way, think of it as a compliment. I was making a simple (what I thought was funny) comment about your ability to find an OLD thread and then posting to it. I'd be willing to bet that 99.99% of the new forum posters would have never even bothered searching before posting. Nothing derogatory was intended by the use of the word n00b. It's not everyday that someone who started so early in the game then drops out then comes back full steam
  11. I'll send you the "soft cords" for some "beta testing" for my son's slightly used combat boots
  12. size 13 shoe contents stuffed inside the works I try to put things you'd never expect to see in my caches. This one weighs about 30 pounds loaded (I've got one thats even bigger), now comes the fun - dragging it off trail for about 2 miles to that sweet spot, last weeks scouting trip failed, glad I left it at home
  13. I'm a professional know-it-all and life coordinator. I tell people what they can and can't do and where they can and can't go. I also get to play with guns, fire trucks, and airplanes.
  14. Managed to get out in the field today after about 2 months of planning and research. Found 2 good spots and planted one regular cache. Wanted to venture out a bit further but the path I poltted was not usable and the gorge was way too deep. Nothing lost, just have to find another route, was sure I could make it on the first pass but when the boy and I got to the drop in point things were very different. Would have been fine if we had some rope and a little less mud. Spent the rest of the time nosing around - mmmm sweet untouched area.
  15. Start here and work your way back to the last page to find what suits your needs. Edited - watch some of the hidden dates, some of the kids have been playing.
  16. As multi as I would need. Good for prying, chopping, cutting, opening, pounding, whatever. I am not a big fan of multi tools. I always found it more frustrating trying to get the small blades, tools out. I've peeled back far too many nails to count. Give me a fixed balde or a single folder and I will make it work. It may not be pretty but it's practical and when away from the comfort of home thats all I want/need. Buck knives has a nice selection of multi tools
  17. odd complaint I have a couple of locations that are about 40-70 miles from home that I'd love to put a couple of caches but I have hesitated about planting them because of maint. concerns NOT about the locals. If it's a good spot and not already taken it's fair game. I have peppered a local State Game Land with caches (my most favorite play ground) A local asked me if they could put a cache out there but they did not want to put one out because they thought I would get upset. I told them - me get upset???? over a cache that I did not hide, for me to find in my favorite area, I'd be honored
  18. A record for oldest thread bump as well - n00b worked the search function, found a thread with his username in it and SHAbump - back to the top
  19. Got a free trip to Atlantic City and I came across a nice memorial and spent some time nosing around. Came back home and was curious to see how many caches I passed by and sure enough there it was - I thought I had enough to log a smiley but I did not so I posted the note
  20. who sang the song - Same as it ever was, same as it ever was? Shame it happened but nothing better than the media to whip everyone up into a feeding frenzy. Label your caches and put some thought into hiding them before you set them free.
  21. you could try a google image search using (skinner) drop point knives or you could look at some knives here, they seem to have a large selection
  22. Nice to see an active OG (Original Geocacher). You ever make it NWPA to find the oldest cache shoot me a line, I have personal issues with SGL 109 - know the area very well
