  1. The new maps lack detail, they have no distance scale, the search facility is hopeless, and in the wrong place.

Searching a location with many known caches, only brings up a few, as the distance from origin appears to be set at 1 mile.

Please leave them as they are, they are excellent here in the UK using The Open Street Map (default) option.

There is a well known saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it", something HQ would do well to remember in several instances !!!!

  2. The new maps have no distance scales on them - useless for planning.

The old filters were much more relevant, and were in the correct place - on the Search page.

    Altogether a Retrograde step !!

  3. The new maps are nowhere near as detailed as the current Open Street Map (default), and as such they have, in my opinion,  limited use here in the UK.

For people used to UK Ordnance Survey type maps, the change in Footpaths to yellow lines is confusing, as yellow, and orange, lines represent roads.

The maps do not show bus (transit) stops either.

I attach two screen dumps of the same area to illustrate my point.

  5.

If they don't respond to emails, and ignore the forums, how are we supposed to communicate with Groundspeak?

    You're not supposed to.

Just go out caching, find a few caches and have a good time.

If we don't know the events etc. are out there how can we ??

Each "improvement" by Groundspeak makes it worse !!

  6. The Weekly Newsletter is useless in its current format.

We only get notification of Local Events for the next 4 or 5 days, which is no help in planning caching trips, and means some local events don't get shown at all.

The sooner Groundspeak reverts to the old style newsletter, with events for 3 months in advance, the better.

Every communication with Paige at Groundspeak, ends with "Put it on the Forum", which is typical Groundspeak ducking the issue !!

If they can put Mega events on for a year in advance, it shouldn't be too much trouble to do events local (within 100miles) to our home coordinates.

  7. Caching with a Smartphone is no good for the serious cacher, the accuracy is not good enough, and the battery life is insufficient.

There are thousands of Garmins etc. in use, and Groundspeak should be looking to improve support for those, rather than concentrating on the casual phone user.

  8. The initial response from Groundspeak was "Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, cache notes are not included in the GPX format.

This does seem like something we may be able to include in GPX files though"

    So it is a possibility.

  9. I assume the hang up is there's no where to put it in the GPX file, so they're waiting until they release the next revision of the format.

    Don't hold your breath:

Update of GPX schema is no longer in the planning. It's a fairly "old school" way of delivering cache data. We are instead focused on improving the API to deliver data in more customized formats, and an overhaul of the search functionality is a major step toward that.

Does anyone know if there is some type of way of accessing all the caches with my personal cache notes?

To keep track of them, you can add them to a bookmark list as you add notes to them. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to figure out which ones already have corrected coordinates or personal notes. You'd have to go through each one to see if they have notes.

  10. I think it would be of great benefit to have the Personal Cache Note section on the cache page, included in GPX downloads, in the same way as Amended Co-ordinates are. Often put useful info here whilst working out puzzles etc. then can't access it in field.
