  2. Anyone else interested in visiting Trig Points (usually marked with a concrete pillar) and recording them on Chris n Marias website? I've visited 3 in my local area, and they are easier to spot than some caches. --... ...-- Morseman

  4. quote:Originally posted by onestep off:Well as of late yesterday when I go to the state map and I am logged in it shows the cache sites but does not change the symbols for the ones I have found? Any ideas as to why? Are the upgrades anything to do with the white boxes with a blue 'tick' having suddenly dissapeared from the maps please? Is there any way of getting them back again? Oh, I should clarify that I'm in the UK, so I'm looking at the old style map. In case that has any bearing on it? Thanks. --... ...-- Morseman
  5. quote:The question is: What do/would you hate to see on cache pages? The current censorship of other, valid, geocaching pages references on these forums. Sorry, but you asked! I wonder if this will appear? --... ...-- Morseman

Have a look at a few other uses for your GPSr (GPS receiver) whilst you have it. Geaodashing MinuteWar A searche engine will get you there. Unfortunately, these forums are censored, so you will have to email me direct to get more details of other forums. Happy caching & Happy New Year. Tim & June (Winchester) The Number of the cache is GC7CEB, and I tried to re-register it by up dating it and emailing various people. 8. quote:Originally posted by Tim & June:Hi Morseman, Problem is, when a cache is archived, it's just not listed anywhere on the site so nobody can go find your cache anyway. You say that you "can't get it de-archived". How have you gone about this ? The best, and easiest method of getting your cache unarchived is to email one of the UK admin's (Richard & Beth or June & I) but you must give us the GCXXXX number or the URL of the cache page so that we can find it. 9. Bozer Box is back! Well, it's been back for a couple of months now, but I can't get it de-archived. It's in a new spot, that is probably more secure, and the clues have been updated to suit the new location. So, please ignore the "Archived" notice and visit the cache if you are in the Bolsover Area. If enough people log it, then maybe the message will get through that it's back again. --... ...-- Morseman
  10. It seems to be almost impossible to get a cache de-archived if you replace it with a new one, in a new spot which is probably more secure, after the original has been archived. Can anyone out there tell me how to de-archive a cache please? Bozer Box is back in action, in a new hiding place, with updated clues (It's a multi cache consisting of several virtual caches leading to the final box of 'goodies') and it's not getting on the map because I can't get it de-archived... Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. --... ...-- Morseman
  11. I have reinstated a cache which went missing. It's in a new place and I altered the clues to reflect the new location and incorporated a new step to avoid people trying to walk through houses to get to the hiding place. However, I don't seem to be able to get it to re-appear on the lists of active caches. Anyone any idea what I need to do to re-instate my cache? Short of resubmitting it under a new name, which I would rather not have to do, that is. If you want to see the new details, search for Bozer Box in the archived section. --... ...-- Morseman

Being a pedant I always wonder why we need all the expensive laboratories, when, according to films/TV, all you need to do is taste the stuff? And, how do they know what it tastes like? Or, is that one of the 100 things you wouldn't know if it were not for the films/TV? --... ...-- Morseman
  13. quote:Originally posted by logscaler:Bullet's and other explosive devices. Near to where I work is a cache into which someone has placed a Cigarette lighter. And, the cache is in a wood... I did think of removing it, but decided it wasn't up to me to police what someone else puts into a cache that doesn't belong to me. I still worry about what might happen in a dry summer should something happen to that lighter though. I also came across a soap bar in a cache that had become waterlogged. I'm not really looking for 'quality' swap items, in fact I seem to major on collecting Yo-yos, but some items, like those mentioned, seem a bit daft given the location and the weather in the UK. --... ...-- Morseman
  14. I've just noticed that a cache that I replaced in a new location and a new box, which had to be archived due to loss, is still not listed. How do you re-install a cache that's been archived please? This will come up again soon, as I will be re-installing the "Merry Christmas" cache from last year as well. Thanks for the help. --... ...-- Morseman
  15. It appears that I have two TBs that I've actually not got. How did this happen? Well, someone who found them put the numbers out as part of their report of finding them. Now, I shall delete my logs and ensure that the TBs are back where they belong, but what if I wanted to put them somewhere where they are not? Please, people, don't put the TB number off the dog tags into your reports. It allows people, perhaps less friendly than me, to do things that are not really a good thing. --... ...-- Morseman
  16. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe:I see a log on the cache I think you are talking about... how long did you give them, after logging the bug, to leave a log on your cache? I guess you are right, and this comes under the headin of shouting before being hurt. The TB log appeared a couple of hours, I would guess, before the log on the cache. I'll crawl back in my hole. :-) --... ...-- Morseman
  17. This is not a pop at the person who did this, as I'd not realised that it was possible to do until today! The story is, I put together a cache, and put a TB in that I held. So far, so good. The first visitor to the cache took the TB (again, no problem with that, that's why I put the TB in there after all) However, the 1st visitor logged taking the TB (great, it's moved on - no problem here either) but hasn't yet logged finding the cache. Now, if this had been several finds after setting the cache, I guess I'd have over looked the fact, but being the 1st visit, and so soon after I'd set the cache and it had been accepted, it would have been nice to have seen a log of the cache being found. Especially as someone coming over tomorrow (a Sunday - and usually a good day for Geocaching) might not realise that they are not the 1st visitor. I supose my question is, should it be a requirement to log a find, even if it's a 'note', to collect a TB? I have to admit that, if I've gone back to a cache to get a TB, I log a 'note' to say I've been. In this case, this was the first find for the cache, and it would have been nice to know if they got there via all the clues, or just worked out where it was without doing the trail. --... ...-- Morseman --... ...-- Morseman
  18. quote:Originally posted by Lassitude:I guess this is to get round 'GPS proof' Car Windscreens. Wouldn't one of the small, flat, antennas that have a magnetic 'foot' be less expensive? I have one which I adapted from a GPS PCB that I bought some time ago. I took the plug which came with the antenna off, and soldered a BNC socket (which is what my GPSIII+, and some other units use) on instead. Signals are much improved using this antenna on the roof of the car. I suppose people who use units with no facility for attaching an antenna connected with a length of cable have to use the re-transmitting system though. I have thought about mounting a small metal plate on a pole, and taking this with me to mount the external antena on when walking. A bit awkward, but might make a bit of a difference when under the trees. I think I've seen pictures of people with antennas on poles, in the USA, as well. Anyone know where these come from? --... ...-- Morseman

  20. quote:Originally posted by spagthorpe: I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, I've never seen anything on it. I was thinking of using a basic mount with a couple of strong magnets on it to mount a GPS V to a motorcycle. Is there anything in a GPS that would get screwed up? Nope! Radio waves (which are what GPS receivers use) are not affected. Even the compass on the GPS will be unaffected, as it takes its data from the received signals from the Sats. However, if you use a "normal" compass, it will be affected by the magnet. Don't let people, who don't understand radio wave theory, tell you that it will affect the 'magnetic' component of an E/H wave. It wont. :-) To test this, hold a magnet near the antenna of your VHF radio (VHF = MHz, GPS =GHz signals). There will be no difference in signal received. If, however, you put your magnet near the loudspeaker (which uses a large permanent magnet and coil to make the sound you hear) there will be an effect. The thing to realise is, you don't have a loudspeaker on your GPS receiver. Well, not one that alters the display of where you are. ;-) --... ...-- Morseman
