  1. Been out of geocaching for a while but want to get back into it. Dusted off my trusty gps map, but I’m very rusty on loading caches into it. When connecting to GSAK, I get a generic error message. Basically doesn’t like the USB port. Tried different ports, no go. Also get a message on the gps saying storage is full, even though I have a 2gig micro sd card installed. Is there an easier way around GSAK? I should add that this is my first time using this particular pc.
  2. After repeated re-calibrations, the compass page on my gpsmap is consistently pointing about 30 feet away when arriving at the exact cache location. Any ideas?
  3. Well now there you go. Just this week I found a cache that was wet inside, an very neglected. When I got home and looked at the CO's profile, I saw that he was deployed overseas in the military. I was glad I had some spare towels to wipe it out, and I replaced the log zip lock log bag with a spare I always have. Maybe Geocaching.com could set up some kind of designation, or symbol to temporarily place on caches pages to denote "away serving our country". Its not always easy to make arrangements for someone to look after your cache before you leave.
  4. ...maybe make friends with one of the five, and ask to go out with them on a FTF?
  5. I'm sure there are thousands of logged finds which do not follow the guidelines, and I could care less. I'm having a lot of fun with this sport, and it has nothing to do with other peoples numbers.
  6. A big part of the enjoyment to me (after the find and sign) is to leave a nice item, whether I take anything or not. It is very satisfying to know someone else may enjoy it, and not concern myself if it was properly traded for or not. I also enjoy doing maintenance. I bring a few sheets of paper towels to wipe out the wet caches, and also remove items that are degrading.
  7. They sell locknlocks at bed bath and beyond. These are my favorite, always dry
  8. I think its a dandy idea. p.s. where did you get the geocache stencil?
  9. I guess its true, the measure of a persons character is based on how they conduct themselves when they know they won't get caught. Thanks to all of you who helped keep this discussion light, although I thought I saw someone wearing a black cape fleeing a cache once.........
  10. Hey everybody, relax. I'm just trying to have a little fun here. I hope someday to introduce my grandchildren to geocaching, and I'm thinking in order to make it fun for them, I'll have to visit the cache first to put some trinkets in there so they wont be disappointed. I thought of some more names to nominate: Cache-monkeys Geo-imps Penny poppers Dirt devils Bealza-baggers Box bullies Geo-bullies Travel slugs Travel grubs Cache-outers Geo-vultures Ammo slammos Swag worts Stink bugs Cache hog Swag swine On the idea of "muggles", I was just wondering if one of these might catch on. P.S. How about a nickname for people in these forums who run to check your profile, them make a snide remark to make you feel like you have no right to an opinion simply because you're new?
  11. I'm not here to whine about those who always trade down their swag, there's plenty of that in these forums already. I was just thinking we need to come up with a good nickname to describe this practice, and maybe shame one or two into rethinking their how they trade swag. I'm thinking something like "Downgraders", or perhaps "Swag-baggers". What words come to your mind when you find a cache with nothing but pennies, or bottle caps within?
  12. I want to find out where the nearest 100 find pin to my location is. Don't know where to go online to search. Thanks
  13. I've made several from young white ash saplings. Just peel off the bark (which comes off nicely when they're green) and your good to go. Also found a nice stick with all the bark chewed off by a beaver. Looks really neat. Best of all: FREE!
  14. I work for the P.O., and they are completely anal. Don't waste your time.
  15. .....I think anything homemade would be a refreshing bit of swag.
  16. Very clever and well thought out. Quite a contrast to most of these forums.
  17. just visit any of about fifty percent of these forums!
  18. how about this: "I'm not very clever, had to go to a website to come up with something to say."
  19. I know I'm new, but it seems obvious to me that maintaining micros is far less work, especially when you live far from them; therefore more get placed. Also we could encourage owners to maintain larger caches by "maintaining " or heaven forbid "UPGRADING" the swag we come across.
