  1. I have an idea for helping dry damp caches/log books. Silica gel packets, like found in with many items to keep them dry during shipping. (Shoes are the first thing that comes to my mind.) It's a desiccant (it draws in moisture). I've put a packet in with the log book on one of my caches, just in case. It's written on the packet that it's not to be eaten. I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about putting it in a cache? DAryl Cimarron, KS Sorry if this is rehashing an old idea.
  2. You’re so beautiful, your skin so soft. It looks like its glowing. Daryl
  3. Radio shack has some strong small ones. Rare earth if my memory is working... DAryl
  4. "Ground Zero" in my town varies by several blocks depending on what mapsite you ask. I've been thinking about a cache in the location that GC says is the middle, but I don't know that neighbor too well, yet. DAryl Cimarron, KS
  5. Three caches around a lake, about 2 mile hike to get to all three. Got to the car and couldn't get in. So I hiked the trail backwards. The keys were at the first one, of course. DAryl
  6. Just thought I'd point out it's up to three finds and all have liked the idea. Lucky Penny (GCR4A7) It's almost got as many finds at it does watchers! DAryl
  7. The word only is in the word Jeep. So it's only in a Jeep, my favorite mode of transportation. DAryl
  8. Well, somebody got out and found it yesterday. They seemed to like it. We'll just have to watch and see what some more finders think. Lucky Penny (GCR4A7) DAryl

  10. Start placing more. You have a chance to be the "Godfather of geocaching" in your area and set the example for future hiders. Hopefully you won't be placing guardrail micros though, because you don't want to be the "Godfather of junk caches" . Happy first anniversary! That position may be taken already. One reason that I don't have more placed is the fact that I want caches in cool/good places, not just anywhere. DAryl
  11. I was just going with the fact that I can be in Wichita in about three hours. Mapquest is always slow. But yes get the Big bottle of O2, or bring more than one, it's a long hike up to the cache! When you do head this way, drop me a note, I'll give you the insiders guide for things to do in Dodge City. DAryl
  12. It's been one year since I started Geocaching. Day one. (no I'm not going through all 365) I'm on another forum site for Jeeps, and some body has a thread about GPS and Geocaching. I read it, it sounds like fun. I then call my neighbor, because I know he has a GPS and say let's go Geocaching. Then I have to explain what that is. (not even knowing what it is myself) 10:00 at night looking for my first cache, a micro at that, maybe not the best way to start. But I did find it, in three pieces on the ground. Lid, canister, log sheet, so I rolled it all back up and put it where I thought it came from. Now one year later I've got 108 finds and the closest one to me is 41.7 miles away. And the next seven for me to get are calling my name every day. I figure it's a 171.8 mile trip to get them. So much fun, so little caches in my neck of the woods. DAryl
  13. Dadgum, it's killing me to get a find on this thing. My last cache hidden took 12 days to get a find. Not enought cachers here in western Kansas. But, if someone else hides something then everybody goes looking for it. I've only had a few first to finds. Time moves slow waiting. DAryl
  14. Not to forget, that is a photo of the only hill in the area.. DAryl
  15. All of Kansas looks like that. Wide open spaces anyway.
  16. PETR -- That's sort of like PETA right? People Eating Tasty Animals? I hope it's not "People Eating Tasty Rocks"!?!?!? Cause if there's trouble with me "reaming" a hole in a rock, then there's BIG Trouble with me eating one!?!? DAryl
  17. I like it. Reaming, that's what it was! That's the idea. Thank you. Oh-No, I scratched the back of the penny to give a rougher surface for the J-B weld to grab on to!?! I'm going to be running off to hide from both the geo-police and the FEDS!!! With the cactus and the lack of anything else in that area. I don't see many muggles just wandering around. But it is close enough to a point of interest to give a person a reason to be there. Quack quack. Thanks
  18. I should clarify, I didn't really "drill" a new hole. But, I did enlarge a naturally occurring hole to get the line through. Bad word choice. Well I didn't mean to cross any caching etiquette, or to get my local reviewer into trouble. I just thought it was a good idea. DAryl Cimarron, KS
  19. I'm so excited about my new cache that I can't wait for somebody to find it. So as a way to pass some time before it's found I thought that I'd talk about it here. So give me some feedback on your thoughts. Take it easy on me, I've only got 108 finds, so I haven't seen a bunch of caches. But I had to ask about this new cache I've hidden. Because I haven't seem one like it. The area that the cache is hidden is a rocky out crop in a hillside (no trees). There is a very small cave (for lack of a better way to describe it) with an opening about 5 inches wide at the top of the "cave". I drilled a 1/4 hole through the rock next to the opening and into the "cave". I tied fishing line to a micro container that I had. I then fed the line back up through the hole and tied it to a hoop that I J-B welded to the back of the penny. The finder will pick up the penny, see the fishing line, and be able to reach through the opening to retrieve the cache container. What do you think? Anyone heard/seen a cache like this? I hope that I did a good enough job describing the cache, if not I guess that you'll just have to come to western Kansas and find it. I'm sure something like it has been done somewhere, by someone. But I've not seen it. Let me know if you have. Thanks. Lucky Penny (GCR4A7) DAryl Cimarron, KS Jeonlyep@ucom.net
  20. Kite and Hawkeye, That was it. Thanks for the link. Daryl
  21. I seem to remember seeing a word, works or a PDF file that could be downloaded and printed out. It had some basic information about geocaching on it, something that a cacher could use to introduce geocaching to a non-cacher. Anyone know where I could find something like that again? Thanks Daryl Cimarron, KS
  22. Am I a Lurker? I only come to the forums if I have a question. It's just that I've never taken the time to really look around. But I thought that I'd introduce myself anyway. Hi I'm Daryl from Cimarron KS. Okay now what!?
