does anybody know what issues there might be with placing a cache on horn island? if it is allowed, where would one have to go to get permission for that sort of thing? thanks

caching on public land, wearing my army field jacket (camoflage). Not being from around here, I didn't expect hunting season to start for another two weeks and hadn't thought to double check. The first shot ricocheted off a rock about 25 yards to my right, and taught me a lesson about situational awareness. The next four shots made sure I'd never forget again.

i can't quite figure out how to do a link, but here goes: my story is not nearly as harrowing as most of yours, but a near miss and a somber warning: i was going after this: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...18-d942647e31c0 on foot, which means you have to walk cross country a few miles to get to it (it was placed by boat but technically accessible by foot) and up and down a few bluffs. in the rain. slipped on some rocks (the name is very appropriate) coming down the cliff on the opposite side and tumbled most of the way down. i took some VERY lucky bounces and ended up with only a few cuts and bruises. i sat there for a minute at the bottom of the cliff wondering what i might have done if i had broken a leg, and thanking God that i hadn't. "hi, 911? yes, i broke my leg. no, i don't have an address. no, there's not a road within about 4 miles. here are my GPS coordinates. ask the game warden if you can borrow his boat) and that's best case scenario, assuming i didn't bash my phone and my batteries didn't die... lesson learned: if it's gonna be off the trail, BRING A BUDDY.

i don't think there's any Hodags around these parts, but i'll keep my eyes peeled next time i get back home...
