Magellan SporTrak Belt-Clip Carrying Case
PodunkPaul replied to "lostguy"'s topic in GPS technology and devices
I tried to send "lostguy" a PM, but it would not go through, i think because of the quotes in the username... My kids would appreciate this for their SporTrack Topo, unless it went to QuigleyJones. ~Paul -
Friends shouldn't let friends buy Celeron processor machines Spend the extra money for some extra L2 cache, you'll be happier down the road.

Haha, you sir, are the man!

Wow, didn't mean to get you all excited there, big boy... You need to relax... I have been watching them... You still haven't even said if it was unlocked and/or GSM. Maybe this will make you feel better about how I worded that, I will reword that for you... "it is my personal opinion that your price is kind of high, especially for the amount of detail you included in your post". Now maybe, if you had originally said it was an L7, and that it was unlocked, and that it was quad band GSM, maybe I would feel differently about your price. But now, I really have zero interest in your stuff. Attitude is everything, even for someone trying to make a "dirt freakin cheap" deal.

Did this go to ebay yet? Is it an L6 or L7? Also, is it quad band GSM and unlocked? I'll watch it and take my chance on ebay... 225 is pricey for used.

Explorist 500 For Sale With Many Extras

Lock your thread, please -
Yes, very much so! My Canon S2 camera will snap 500+ pics on fully charged 2500 Powerex batteries, but only about 200-300 witn brand new alkalines. As for the GPSr, it lasts 20% longer, on average, using rechargable batteries over alkalines. Environmentally, IT IS MORE THAN WORTH IT!!!

"Commercial" Posting Guidelines...
PodunkPaul replied to Team Chevelle's topic in GPS technology and devices
I am considering setting up a forum on my own server where we can freely post deals, complete with links. I once asked a mod via a PM about some clarrification and they never replied -

Good Price On A Magellan Meridian Gold...
PodunkPaul replied to Elfdelite's topic in GPS technology and devices
Holy cow! That is a wild price!! I'd take a few dozen at that rate:) -
Has anyone ever dealt with these guys? A friend passed me the URL and I have never seen such a low price. They state on their website: In order to say that, they must be an authorized agent, right? Check out this website If anyone has dealt with them, please share any experiences.

I will echo what Embra has stated. Cachemate is the way to go. I decided the $8 was well worth it after spending a few frustrating hours with other applications. I use it on my Handspring Visor Deluxe without issue. Use GSAK to export the PDB and away you go.

I have a MeriPlat and a SporTrack Topo. I couldn't play nicely with the wife and kids and share my MeriPlat so I had to get them their own. Now one of the kids will take my MeriPlat outta my hands and run ahead of me. Guess it is time to get a new one

Has Anybody Used Any Of These Palm Pilots
PodunkPaul replied to russell_53040's topic in GPS technology and devices
I couldn't make up my mind either.... So, I got both Truthfully, the Pocket PC is more for business, but it is great for caching, especially if you can hit a hot spot and log your caches while on the road. Less to do later. You'll be happy with the Palm IIIx -

PodunkPaul replied to russell_53040's topic in GPS technology and devices
I have owned a Palm IIIxe and would recomend that to anyone. The 8 megs of memory is nice over the 4 megs in the Palm IIIx. Put a couple games on there for when you're bored:) I currently own a Handspring Visor Deluxe as my 'trashing in the woods' unit. Works great! Look around and you should be able to get a Palm IIIxes or a Handspring Visor Deluxe for 20-25 bucks. -
If that is true, abandon C++ as your language choice and go with Assembler (I think MASM32 is free)...

Ouch! I think the SporTrack Topo basemap is HUGE! If I could find the manual for it and if the Magellan site wasn't throwing an error right now, I would check, but I think it is over 100 megs + in size. That would take a long time to download via the serial connection from your computer to the unit. Hopefully someone will weigh in soon with a solution, or i fear, your only option might be sending it back. However it works out for you... PLease post a follow up, as I have the SporTrack Topo for the kids and would like to know what happens. Good luck!!

I have both a Palm and a Pocket PC and really like the Pocket PC / GPXSonar combination the best. That said, my Palm and Cachemate come in a close second. Each combination has a specific purpose for me. The Palm goes into the woods with me all the time because of the minimal investment in the whole setup, $25 for the Palm and $8 for Cachemate. The Pocket PC will come out if I get near a hotspot and can check geocaching.com and/or have more time to just sit back and enter field notes. Since you're relatively new, keep your costs down. Go find a used unit (Palm IIIxe or Handspring Visor Deluxe) with 8 megs of memory on eBay and pay the $8 for Cachemate. I've heard some people complain about the color screens in daylight. My color screen on the Pocket PC (iPaq H4355) works great for me in daylight. Happy hunting!

Hmmm, let's see... If I were a nefarious induhvidual, I would replace the contents of a legitamate cache with an explosive. Lotta good looking it up on the website is going to do, unless I were a really dumb sort and signed the log as "T: Everything L: Bomb" We had a cache go missing at a local school that was a project when someone playing at the playground found it and turned it into the police. But, after a week or so to get everything worked out the cops loaded it with goodies and all was good again.

I wish evilbay would do away with cancelling an auction because it was sold elsewhere. Makes it a waste of my time to bid on such items if a seller has the option to pull the plug early. IMHO, it is a bad practice. But, well within the rules I guess...

He got bids, but he ended the auction early. Is ending an auction early part of some strategy that I have not become privy too? It was in my watch list too.
