  1. i hear there is a free geocoin in it for you if you post in the log that you trashed them out.
  2. the criminal buried a geocache? why would that not be right? why would someone who thinks it ok to murder all of a sudden decide he MUST play by the (loosely agreed upon) rules of geocaching?
  3. I did some caching with a friend who was dropping these tokens. Didn't really strike me as spam, but it did seem a bit peculiar, ie, the tokens themselves are just a plastic circular business card - I wouldn't leave or take them. But there is a lot of stuff in caches that I wouldn't leave or take. They might appeal to some who collect poker chips, wooden nickels. An interesting way to advertise. If it works for the vendor, we can expect to see more of it. "spam" in the loose sense IS random advertising. consider it "junk mail".... or "spam email" (you know, the printer cartridges or viagra ones)... i don't like them (these tokens) at all, but is there really a difference between them and a mctoy or a bottle cap... or other bit that someone is trying to pawn off?
  4. Around here, with a concealed weapons permit you can inform the individual that you have a gun on you and that you would like the situation to cease, but that you are willing to reveal the weapon if the problem does not stop. Then you have the right to remove your weapon and remind the individual that you will fire if they do not back off. After that, it's any man's game. Fair enough in my opinion. I'm not trigger happy, nor do I ever wish to shoot anyone, but I DO like to have the upper hand if a bad situation arises. Call me crazy... And, for those who say (not necessarily in this forum) that you don't need to carry a gun if you stay out of questionable places... what is questionable? A bad situation can arise anywhere. In recent years we had a string of churches around here fall victim to robbery, theft and vandalism. Now, who among us would consider a place that is generally seen as a safe haven to be a questionable area? I'm not a church-goer, but I would never even think about conducting any wrong-doing in a place that, at least, teaches a pretty solid set of morals. Food for thought! this would help in a great deal of FTF confrontations.... "please step out of GZ, i have a concealed weapon and am willing to use it to defend my rights to a FTF"
  5. no amount of requirements will make everyone happy. ultimately, it all falls to the counselor and scout. if it is handled at one of those merit badge day events, it'll be severely lacking in quality. at this point though, my son could do most of this today - and WE are preparing to release our first hide - with or without the badge. i've also volunteered to be the counselor, as i'd hate for any scout to venture onto this forum asking questions. as for those that think the GC realm will now be cluttered with poorly executed caches by 14 year olds must be living in the dream land of professional geocachers where all hides are a 5/5 - and there are zero 35 mm film cans strapped to fence posts.
  6. heck yeah... i like that one. trackable ankle lock....drop him at an event.
  7. grease paint.... infrared night vision goggles... camo, head to toe... and lots of beef jerky and water.
  8. in liberal land, i'm sure it is life in prison if you even threaten the man with a dead herring....but lucky for us in texas, we'd get a street named for us if we were to exercise our 2nd amendment rights and defend against an attacker.
  9. NOT good advice. Horrible advice since the adults could get separated again, get two guns. Offering the guy an ice cold beer probably would have made him a friend for life. depends on what kind. i'd have not been happy to have been offered a lite beer.
  10. ROFL... here, we have people who drive 20 miles and wander into neighborhoods they don't know at all in the middle of the night in order to be the one to write a special little note about being FTF ... and how late they had to stay up, etc.
  11. Now that is not true. Your account doesn't get suspended unless you are just a Basic Member. As a Premium Member your account gets downgraded to Basic before it gets suspended. hmmm...I wonder what happens if you get too many DNFs as a Plantinum Member... elevation to "moderator"
  12. pickle quota. the higher the number, the bigger the cache.
  13. i'm guilty of all of these... some caches that i've left early for, came home late for, left work for.... are just new to me. my son and i are constantly looking at spots in contemplation of putting our first cache out.
  14. Ok.. What if you find the bike 50 feet off trail in the woods, lying under a bush ? If it is not yours, do not take it. Simple. Alert the police, let them deal with it. If they can find the owner, great, if not you can get it from their abandoned property after a period of time. alert the police to the trash which has been left.... obviously picking up trash which does not belong to you is NOT acceptable behavior.
  15. unopened snickers bars... unexpired gift certificates to chilis... keys to a new porshe parked nearby...
  16. his defense is easy... i'm sorry, your honor, i mistook the CITO with CICO. or... your honor, they place these boxes out in public and beg people to find them and take items, mainly mctoys. i misunderstood the concept as i was more interested in taking the container rather than a mini barbie from a happy meal. i liked the trapping comparison.... until you look into that and realize that there aren't too many of us geocaching for a living.
  17. i have a feva.... and the only prescription is more cowbell!
  18. ha....i went to a cache last week that was on a trail..... around one bend, there was police tape everywhere "crime scene, do not enter" now that was some discomfort. on topic... i'd just send my son in... or more to the point, he'd be leading me in, cutting his eyes at all the kids wondering if they were there to steal the cache.
  19. stop....or else you might break the record for posts in a day...causing someone to spend countless hours trying to break your (un)breakable record.
  20. i'm pleased to see this thread. i've thought for the longest, those VILE, EVIL Scouts.... how dare they put a film can out in the woods and not come back 3 to 4 years later to make sure the log is still viable. while we are lambasting groups.... can i take a moment to blast the scourge of geocaching.... the retired.
  21. so...40 morons in a school bus could therefore set several records? if there aren't compound fractures at the end of the day, there is no record.
  22. i say go for it. the malicious me says that when i finally put a cache out... i'm going to sign the log first... huge FTF covering the entire first page of the log - then not log the find online until the appropriate number of FTF hounds in this area have had a chance to run out at 5:30 in the morning racing to it.
  23. ...and that is the problem with using bacon as swag.
  24. what constitutes being "caught"? i went in search of a cache today that i found out after the fact was no longer there...and the owner was attempting to keep it as a virtual cache. after having my DNF log deleted, i figured out why. seems that if you are on top of the caches you own, the cache log can be kept pretty clean - zero traces of reality other than a single line hidden in a busy description.
