  1. I've only placed 2 geocoins, both within the past few months. Both were firmly attached to laminated info cards to help prevent theft. It doesn't seem to have worked. They have both been reported as "not in this cache" anymore. There is a chance that someone with good intentions has the coins and is traveling or hasn't logged yet, but I'm guessing that more and more people are caching without logging with the express intent of theft. It's sad.
  2. Yes, I do attach something like this to my traveling coins and bugs. Go to your trackable items and select one. On the right-hand side under the "Trackable Options" section, you'll see something called Print Info Sheet. Click that link. I copy this info sheet, shrink it down just a bit, print it, and then laminate it. I then attach it to my traveling item in the hopes it will help limit missing coins or TBs. It may not prevent theft, but it may help deter it. Hope that helps! Edit to Add: Be sure to upload a pic of your coin or TB. This pic will show up on the info sheet.
  3. Best of luck to you. I completely understand about taking care of your pet. I'm watching some of your coins on ebay. Hope they do great for you!
  4. My coin is now in a cache in Helena, Tsun! Woo Hoo! The coin reference number is TB3DJ38. I'm looking forward to "watching" you grab it!
  5. My coin is in Montana and only a little bit away from Helena. I was able to make its first cache placement myself in the Missoula area after driving about 600 miles or so to visit family in the area. It's since been picked up and moved a bit further east. TB3DJ38 (Mt. Hood Geocoin)
  6. How about - "Look Into My Eye" - the design is rather hypnotic, after all or "Light Speed to Endor" - so says my little Star Wars fan or "Color Storm" - cuz it sorta looks like one!
  7. Sounds intriguing . . . can't wait for the first photo challenge.
  8. Very cool thread, bumping up again. This thread has inspired me to go find some caches among the ruins near us this summer.
  9. Just read this entire thread. Now have a big grin on my face from hearing all the great Goofed stories! Very inspiring and will keep me going in good spirits this weekend (memorial service for my 98-year-young grandmother who lived life to the fullest and appreciated a good Goof!).
  10. Put me down for a penguin coin too. He/she is such a cute little penguin that any color/finish would be fine by me!
  11. I'm a newbie here, but I like the idea of 2 coins. I'm not yet an avid collector (gasp, I know) so I would definitely release 1 of the coin sets into caches. My family is just thrilled when we come across coins in the wild, so our goal is to release them whenever we can afford to do it. I also like the idea of "mini sets" where I could buy, say, 5 states or so at a time for a little discount or I could buy individual states for a higher price.
  12. These coins are beautiful! Just submitted a reservation.
  13. Just came across this thread - cool idea! We're out in Oregon but traveling to Montana several times this summer. I think I'll take that opportunity to join this fun geocoin challenge! I'll post an update once I have coins and activate them. Thanks - this will be fun for my almost 5 year old to follow the challenge. Ok, so we have our 1st coin activated and ready to be placed in a cache this weekend!! TB3DJ38 Mt. Hood Seeking Montana! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2764125
  14. Thanks! That is what I was hoping to find out. I really appreciate the screenshots. It looks like a good unit for geocaching and for kids.
  15. Just checked mine, which I just got about 2 hours ago. Yes, you can enter coordinates to the GPSr in the field, you have to enter them in as a waypoint. Just went through the menus and found where you can enter the coordinates. Here are some screen captures from the GC that I just grabbed:
  16. I just learned about this new Magellan eXplorist GC, specifically designed for geocaching. Looks like an upgraded/improved version of the Geomate Jr. My question: does anyone know if this unit has the ability to manually enter coordinates out in the field?
  17. Our family is fairly new to geocaching and for now we're just using the Geomate Jr. until we can figure out what GPSr we want. Do you have any good recommendations for caches in the Bend area for cachers with kids? We can probably do shorter hikes (1 mile or so), but longer hikes may be a bit much on the little ones. Many thanks!
