  3. I'd love to adopt a coin! We use geocaching and travelers to help teach our junior cacher about geography, nature, science, and a bunch of other wonderful things. It's great family time and gets us seeing places that we never would have discovered if not for geocaching.
  4. Team_Romeo is joining too! We are a geocaching family complete with one geodog. Joined: November 14, 2011 Name received: Card sent: Card received: Thanks!
  5. 3. What “gotcha” into geocoins? When we first heard about geocaching, we went to a local geocaching group who were presenting an introduction to caching class. At this session, we heard about "travelers" and "coins" but didn't really know what that meant. One of the attendees brought a binder filled with his personal collection. Our junior cacher (who was about 4 years old at the time) said he wanted to start a pirate treasure collection (meaning coins) so that's how we started. We both place coins in the wild and purchase a few here and there for our collection. We're building our collection slowly and hope to one day design our own personal coin.
  6. Here's our second entry! 2. How did you “gotcha” geocaching name? Our name (and profile pic) comes from our adopted cat, Romeo. We got him from a local no-kill cat shelter right about the time that we started geocaching. Although, he doesn't come caching with us, he always loves to take a look at the coins and traveling items that visit us before continuing their journeys.
  7. Here's our answer to the first question. Thanks! 1. What “gotcha” into geocaching? We started geocaching when our jr cacher was 4-years-old. By having a geocache (treasure!) to look forwards to, he is willing to go on longer hikes and wants to go on more family adventures. We also take our geo-dog whenever possible (and he now has his own traveling log-my-dog tag on his collar).
  8. Nice! I just showed this thread to my junior geocachers and they LOVED it. You combined their eagerness for all things dino with their passion for geocaching.
  9. What a fun mission! We're signing up for 1 mission as a geocaching family. Signed up: Nov 7, 2011 Name Received: Package Sent Package Received: Thanks for organizing!
  10. Beautiful coins! We just entered the cointest (we being myself and my 6-year-old geocaching sidekick!), thanks!
  11. Very nice! Can't wait to see more of the design.
  12. We purchased this unit a few months ago to complement our Geomate Jr. I would say 99% of the time, we are caching with kids and do not need extra map software or the nice features of more expensive units. The 2 units together work great for us. The Geomate Jr. is fun when you want to "wing it" on a road trip and the Magellan GC is better for when we actually plan and do a pocket query, and want to have the cache details available to us.
  13. We'll be headed out on a road trip with two young cachers, aged (almost) 6 and 9. Any must do caches near Arches National Park, the Moab area, or Goblin Valley? We know the temps will be hot so caching will occur in the mornings/evenings.
  14. What a cool mystery coin and a very inspiring thread! My 5-year-old cacher saw the coin as I was reading this thread and thinks its "better than pirate treasure!" High praise, indeed.
  15. Very cool! Hopefully, we'll stumble across a mystery coin soon (especially the Phantom) as my little guy loves superheroes!!
  16. Hopefully, our postcard has arrived or will shortly. I also love this idea and may want to do a similar theme this year for my 5-year-old as a cointest. I'd let him pick the winning card! Hmm, better take a look at my coin collection and see what I can part with! Thanks for the fun!
  17. Hey FunkMaster! Thanks for the offer. It looks like the coin was picked up on August 3rd and the log states that it would be headed to the Calgary area. If you want to watch it, check it out here. It's a really cool coin of Mt. Hood, and I hope that it can makes its way back to Helena.
  18. Yes, my coin made it to Helena, seemed to go missing for a while, and is now headed for Canada. The funny thing is that I printed the coin info sheet, laminated it, and attached the coin to it. I was hoping people would read the card and help with the goal. It may be that someone detached the info card from the coin, but it was stuck together pretty well! At least my coin will have a nice journey and may make its way back down to Helena!! It's helping to teach our 5-year-old all about geography too.
  19. Fabulous idea for a coin contest! Just sent you an email.
  20. We won a cool Geomate Jr. coin in a cointest hosted by Apishere. This is particularly fun for our son as he is learning to geocache with the Geomate Jr device. He's so excited as this is his first coin to add to his "treasure" collection! I scanned the front and back of the coin. Sorry the details are not very sharp. Here's a look:
  21. Count me in too! I have family in Montana so I visit at least a few times each year. Beautiful state!
