  1. I recently had to format a hard drive. I made a GPX of all my old waypoints and saved it to a CD. I then reinstalled GSAK on the new hard drive. I loaded the GPX and all was fine. After I downloaded my first set of GPX files from my weekly email from GC.com, (and all since) GSAK seems to not be updating the old waypoints, but creates new "Double" waypoints. How can I get it to work correctly?

    Seasons

I know, I know, this is not even remotely geocaching related, but I do geocache, so that ought to count for something. My wife is a teacher, and we were wondering it Aussies call this time of year 'Winter' even though this is the warmer time of year there.
  3. I painted three ammo cans with different base colors to see how they would turn out. They are nothing special, but I was curious about others techniques. The five cans on the left are all the colors that I used. The Primer Grey, Light Green, and Tan were the base colors used on the cans, from left to right. The unpainted can on top is what they all looked like before painting. I used all the colors after the base layers were applied on each can, and used the black at a distance to 'dust' the whole paint jobs to help blur the lines a little. Admittedly, this is a pretty amateur job, but for a fast-and-dirty effort, it is not too bad.

  6. OK, the TB got locked, and as suggested, I dropped it in a geocache (which I own). How do I go about removing it from that geocache such that others do not become disappointed by the fact that the TB is not actuall in the geocache? How do I get it to go away?
  7. I found a TB with no official TB dog-tag, but a laminated card with a number. Apparently there are several of these bugs roaming around with the same number on them, subsequently it is getting all kinds of crazy miles logged onto one bug. Should I perpetuate this thing, or just discard it? What is the generally considered 'correct' thing to do?
  8. I completely agree with you ! I bought this Explorist a few days ago and I'm not happy at all with it, compared to my previous experience with low budget Garmins. This situation of limiting the points per file is completely insane and drove me to tears. All right, I'm almost there... I don't think I can resit another pair of days and not puting this unit for sale. The unit is limited to 200 geocaches, and 200 points of interest (POIs). The workaround for this is to filter through GSAK geocaches by whatever criteria you like. I filter micros from all other types, but you could make it micros, small, regular, and large - or whatever. Only one type of filtered geocache could be loaded at a time in this way. Also, it is pssible to load POIs as waypoints. I load all my micros as POIs, and all the other geocaches under the geocache file. I reduce the distance on the filter until I get just under 200 to a file.
  9. I have an eXplorist 600. Wish I had waited and got a 60cs.

  12. It is a good idea, but there are a couple of potential problems with it. Makeup, and possibly even the nail polish have odors that may attract wildlife. I have seen a 'cache that had lipstick in it get destroyed by some kind of wild animal. Also, be mindful of the temperature extremes that the items you trade may be subject to. In Texas, I am sure that it gets well above 100 degrees in the summer, and possibly well below freezing in the winter. Makeup may melt, and freezing may damage some liquid items, especially if they are in glass containers that may break. There are plenty of cheap alternatives, dollar stores often have bags of things that make great trades for kids, such as rubber balls, costume jewelry, and the like, for, well, a dollar.

  14. Hey, I wanna know who's offering pocket queries for benchmarks! Has there been an upgrade to the NGS site that I missed? Patty No one. What I did, as I recall now, was to download the info as per the FAQ. I just called it a PQ when I posted as I couldn't remember at that time how I did it. I got all those listings about six months ago.
  15. Thank you everyone. I will do as suggested and Waymark it. I do have lots of photos, of the disc, the GPS next to it showing the coordinates, and several of the nearby landmark features - it is in the middle of a city, so they are buildings and the like.
  16. That mark was monumented in 1993 by Memphis Light, Gas and Water. They may not have submitted it to NGS for a few years after that, and since the Geocaching database is no longer in sync with NGS', is the likely reason there's no reference to it in Geocaching's system. Great! How do I go about getting GC.com to allow a log on it?
  17. Awhile back, I downloaded a PQ of all the benchmarks in my area. Today, I happened to be in the area of one, and I dropped by to log it. A quick and easy find, I might add - right in the middle of a sidewalk. So, when I went to log it tonight, the database on GC.com does not indicate it's existence. It is : AJ2621 It is stamped : GPS Control Point / NO 101 / Memphis Light Gase and Water DIV
  18. I found a geocache that needs maintenance. It is a typical keyholder with a logbook that is so soaked that it is not possible to unfold it eithout destroying the paper, let alone sign it. I did manage to make some marks on the lump of cellulose, so I guess that I did officially 'sign' it. When I log the geocache as 'Needs Maintenance', do I also get credit for a find? Or do I need to log the find, and then log the 'Needs maintenance' separately?
  19. I like it, too, Patty. A refreshing change from the usual conspiracy theories. On the other hand, the photo SPOO posted clearly shows the effects of a UFO's exhaust during take-off and/or landing. Paul Lasers.
