  1. Here's the deal... As an ex airline pilot I've flown over most of the USA at one time or another, therefore I've seen most of the cache locations from 2 to 7 miles of altitude. I'm just gonna log 'em all. Whaddya think? -DarkSide
  2. Those weren't racial slurs! Everyone knows that racial slurs can only COME from white people, they can't be directed AT them. Just like hate crimes, white middleaged men can only be the PERPETRATORS of hate crimes, never the VICTIMS of them. Just ask Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton if you don't believe me. Signed - Honest, I ain't bitter!
  3. Druggies and needles. Nice. See this log. DarkSide
  4. That's a fine unit for a starter, I found lots of caches with an etrex yellow (almost the same as the camo) before getting my Legend. And the data cable WILL allow you to download waypoints from GSAK or whatever. You don't really NEED a real fancy unit to find caches. Still... I can't help wanting a new 60C....
  5. Obviously I've been going about this all wrong. I thought finding and placing caches was just supposed to be a fun and relatively harmless way to pass the time. Now I see that, instead, it's a means to exercise power and control over you rabble. I have had an epiphany!!! THINK ON THAT, AND BE DISMAYED!!!
  6. You are correct on all counts, Sir. I have permits for both Washington and Oregon and generally carry in both states while caching. It has been my experience that a shot fired safely into the ground will almost always frighten off both bears (at least ours, don't know about Alaska) and cougars. I didn't make a point of carrying all the time until one day when I was out caching with my 2 year old daughter in PDX and we stumbled into a gathering of scumbags openly sharing needles in the middle of the park. Things got a little tense, but turned out ok with no one hurt. That reminds me, I still have to write that thank you letter to Smith and Wesson. As was stated earlier in this thread - the 4 legged animals aren't nearly as frightening as the others........ 8. I tried that and didn't care for it. Now I plug my old yellow etrex into my laptop which is running MS Streets & Trips or National Geographic Topo! as the situation requires, that way I have nice big color maps to look at while I'm driving. Once I get within walking distance I get out and find the cache with my etrex Legend, using my Handspring Visor Deluxe to review the cache page and hints as needed. My wife just shakes her head.... "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  9. OK......Good thing you had me sit down....... I assume there's a nearby spot for post race critiques, etc? This vicarious liability thing is strangling all the fun out of this country! How long until they get to geocaching? I can see it now - Mr. ****, you are the geocacher known as Bodoni, right? Isn't it true that you placed that cache deliberately and in full knowledge that my client would try to retrieve it and fall off the cliff that was only 100 feet away? In truth, you placed it as a trap for my client in particular!!! Mr. Bodoni, you are a menace to society!!! "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  10. This should be fun - how many pitchers do they let you polish off before they won't let you race anymore??? "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  11. I've been wanting a new Legend for awhile now and just decided to buy one. I was wondering about the rebate and called Garmin a few days ago to ask them. The answer I got was "No, we do not give the rebate for online auctions, only for distributors with an internet store." I take this to mean that you can buy one on ebay and still get the rebate as long as you buy from a regular distributor's auction (i.e. - Vanns.com) and get a receipt from them. The receipt will not mention ebay and will thus be honored by Garmin. Theoretically. Beware purchasing from individuals or small fly-by-night outfits advertising the $50 rebate! I'll let everyone know how my rebate turned out after I hear back from Garmin. Could take awhile. "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  12. And I was just putting the final touches on my new Freddy Kruger glove. Complete with knife blade fingers, a bracket for my Garmin and a sensor that automatically marks a waypoint when blood touches it. Oh well, maybe next year. "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  13. I might be able to go one better - I live in the PDX area, but I fly down to K-Falls all the time. I could retrieve your cache for you and bring it back to you....... DS "Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life."
  14. OK, almost time for the boss to get home and I'm putting on my best game face in order to ask her if I can go out and have a beverage with the local geocachers on wednesday night........ Cross your fingers for me! DS Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
  15. How about this: VAMPS - Vancouver and Metro Portland Stashers DS Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
  16. Just checked out the marbles, I hope you're going to show up at the 4-D gig on the 26th with some of them to show off. And just after I sold my geiger counter on ebay. Drat. DS
