  7. erm no, perhaps i live in the 'real' world. hmm, shame for me
  8. try Sick by the Utah Saints ! 'nightime turns people into animals - madmen, dope fiends, trippers - pleasure seekers!' sure there must be a mention in there for night cachers!
  9. theres a place in bristol which is aparently frequented by the gay men of bristol and its surrounding area. - it's also home to more than a few caches or multi cache clues! i usually take my daughter with me to such locations - then i suddenly came up with the following! - perhaps the area surrounding the downs (which according to the press is gay central) is just a bit of grass and bushes frequented by geocachers! perhaps all those men standing awkwardly in amongst the shrubbery - meeting up with other men - maybe theyve just got gps in their pockets!?? or maybe not! oh well! nice place the downs anyway.
  10. guess we were in the wrong place at just the wrong time! no torches on us and nice dark clothing! myself - putting stuff in the boot - transformer sitting in the driving seat - i see what i thought was a taxi pull up next to us - manage to say probably quite a bit too loudly - 'thought that was the pigs then!' voice from the front replies - 'it is!' looking 6ft easterly - i see a nice black uniform! oops! 20 minutes of not very convincing explaining - i show them the print out for the cache and things get easier! first time ive ever given a police officer my real name - and passed the pnc check! pheww! very funny event - glad we didnt get nicked tho! cheers to the ladies involved - got a nice pic of them with a tb!
  11. myself and the transformers got pulled by wiltshire constabulary last night - having just come out of the woods at 1.45am! managed to talk our way out of what could have been a tricky situation somehow!! they originally thought we might be burglars and also thought we'd been out shooting! (though i think they soon realised we sounded too odd to be out at night with guns!) occupational hazard i suppose!! ah well! lovely ladies - eventually let me take a snap of them with a newly found travel bug!
  12. i tried geocacheing in the dark last night for 6 hours - and found it much more enjoyable and in some ways much easier than doing it in daylight. there was no-one around ( except for a couple of oldish ladies staggering down the path from the pub! ) i felt much safer wandering around in the bushes with a fat maglite at night - who's gonna approach someone doing that at night??!? i felt that the darkness actually helped me concentrate towards my objective - giving me a minimal area of light meant that it had to be worked better to find the cache. id be interested to hear what others with nightime experience think about this! is it easier,or harder???
  13. with regards to tampons - (and speaking as a man!) tampons are cool! - theyre really good for using as kindling for fires - can be split and used for wounds - they can soak up small quantities of water if your boat has a leak - cut in half, they make great ear plugs - and if you're a lady with that time of the month thingy - they can bung up all sorts of stuff! dont knock the tampons! every cache should have one!!! i think!?
  14. i recently visited a couple of caches that were full of mc toys - dull for me, but my 10 month old daughter pointed to one of them and did the loudest squeek! i had to give it to her! She now chews it everyday and loves it! be nice if mc toys hadnt been invented though!
  15. for years ive had a thumbstick - coppiced from a hazel tree - its comfortable in my hand - helps me ascend and descend - and it didnt cost me anything!
  16. NOT AT ALL GEOCACHING RELATED - BUT IT WAS TOLD TO ME BY A FELLOW GEOCACHER! Why did the baker have smelly hands? because - he kneaded a poo!
  17. ive had second thoughts! dont put a nail into a tree - it aint natural and it aint nice - ( my thoughts and comments last night kept me awake for many hours!) though i still think it wont hurt a tree - i know it doesnt feel right bangin a nail into one. nor does it feel right cutting a tree down - even a dead one ( though 99% of the trees i cut in my past job were dead). if the only place to put a cache is in a tree that needs a nail bangin into it - perhaps we dont need that cache, set in that manner.
  18. trees are often big tough things - a little nail is like a splinter to us- though we have nerves and therefore feel more. speaking as a commited tree hugger and ex tree surgeon, i dont think a nail will do any reasonably mature tree any harm. the prospect of injury to anyone using a chainsaw is fairly minimal, as most trained tree surgeons are used to the risk of kick back and are trained to deal with it . id say, bang in a small nail - if you must - it cant do any real harm - thoughappologise to the tree afterwards!
  19. thanks for all the replies - that helps me much!
  20. id always waypoint my cars location - ive got a memory like a sieve when it comes to parking - oh, but then i dont drive and dont have a car - so i guess its much easier for me!! top tip - leave the car at home - home is usually easier to find!! now then, where's my house again??!?
  21. dull and damp all weekend in bristol - hoped and wished for snow, but it didnt happen managed to score 3 caches though - but the only white stuff we saw was a lost whitestuff wooly hat in leigh woods. ahh well, me sledge (erm, well, me daughters) awaits the lovely snowwy stuff - only a matter of time till we open the curtains and have to call in to work - trapped by the snow!!
  22. what is the score regarding returning to found caches? say for example, someone finds a cache - then they later find that the cache has a tb in it - can they return to the cache and liberate the tb? would that be wrong? if its ok, should they log the cache as found again?
