  1. must not swear - but i hope the **** ******* ******'* that did this fall down a big hole. donation will be in the post for the CBMRT in the morning. cheers for raising this issue Bhod!
  2. This really is worth a listen! very good - have a listen!
  3. well, real or not so real, cheers keef! i know castleton well and will hopefully be somewhere nearby in the coming months. this cache is just the sort of stuff i like, and without your critisism of it, i wouldnt have noticed this one! many thanks!!! looking forward to getting dirty in the dark!
  4. sent a message to eckington shortly after he posted the news - which of course, in true style, was replied to very swiftly! shame to lose him for now, but hopefully it wont be for good. take care mr eckington!
  5. cheers to lacto and ecki from me - good to have such quality blokes helping us all play the game. i do aggree with moote though, that SSSI's should be carefully considered with regards to caches. also, that some caves have sensitive or dangerous areas that would make them unsuitable for caches. cave caches are cool though i reckon! thats all!
  6. please keep it! i enjoyed doing it and im sure others will in the future. i was aware of the 'activity' in the area, so i did it with my daughter and a friend and saw nothing to alarm me. a note on the listing would be good, and shouldnt put too many people off - how many logs did you get in the past that said 'tnln, saw a gang of men waving their bits around' - not many i should imagine!! its a good cache and should be available again in my opinion! with reference to dogging though - seems like quite a few in this area are very close to such hotspots!!
  7. well, it wasnt painful for me but... i took my daughter out caching with me some time ago, she was only 2yrs old or so, and i had her in a backpack carrier type thing. i was looking for a FTF and after a while i located the cache and took the pack of my back with her in it - unfortunately, my grip on the handle slipped and the pack and my girl dropped to the floor! - luckily the mc d. toys inside it took her mind off the fall! then on the way out, i had her on my back again, ducked under a low tree branch, but heard a hollow sounding thud as her head met the branch! everything was fine though, at the end of the day - not cuts, no bruises - just a few tears! ive never told the missus how bad a dad i was on that day, and will feel guilty for years, im sure.
  8. the new build yer own trig point from IKEA.
  9. according to this forcast it doesnt look too bad for me on saturday in Bristol -link to metcheck.com
  10. got my soaking on the walk home from work today in Bristol - couldnt have been wetter if id jumped in a lake - the rain stopped the minute i got my keys out at my front doorthough! i've put in an order for good weather for the weekend - if my supplier doesnt deliver i wont be happy!
  11. cheers moote! that might have the info - but i cant find the bit i should look at! its been a hard day though - and i broke my big toe, so i think i'm allowed to be a bit dim due to the pain killers (and the cider!) any further hints? not encrypted please!!?
  12. I'd like to be able to use some software to convert british grid refs into the hddd.mm.mmm format - that is used for cache coordinates - and also the other way round! does anyone know of any software (preferably free software) that can do this? i know i can type in the grid ref in british grid on my legend then change the setup units to alter it, but if theres an easier way then that would be great!
  13. From where i am - 1 minute to Aldi, 90 seconds to Threshers, 10 minutes to Lidl and just 20 minutes walk to Wilkinsons. ..and... Mac donalds! Using the 'quality' bus service, its just short of an hour to 'the mall' where a vast selection of consumerist type material - wot nots and doings can be browsed! We have a selection of 'fine' beaches - the jewel in the crown being Severn beach - a concrete spotters dream - with nearby chemical works, bridges, and views over the mud to Wales. Weston super Mare is only 18 miles away - best seen after a few pints - in the dark and with the tide in, on a warm summers evening. Though fine caches even exist in such places! Seriously though i reckon we are lucky to live in the South West! We also have many green places and large tangles of woodland - hills and valleys - caves and underground places that love the limestone bed rock. An abundance of cider, oh the joy of cider!! - some wonderful architecture and towns and cities that are filled with creativity and thought. We've many active cachers, and plenty of quality caches out there - with more being placed all the time. So, yes, i consider myself fortunate to live in Bristol - in a part of the south west!
  14. filled my form in - seemed ok to me - maybe we'll all get a special prize for doing it!! or maybe not! will we see the results of the questionaire? i wonder - be interesting to see some of the stats and viewpoints i reckon.
  15. thanks for the advice - i'll put my panic on hold for a few more months! this posting also helped! - link regarding lost bug
  16. my travel bug - roundhay mansion spoon link was picked up by the 'RIDDERS' on 29th of jan 2006 - and hasnt been seen since - despite sending several emails to them - i have had no reply. does anyone know them? - or have any suggestions regarding what i should do next - they appear to be in the netherlands and havent visited any caches in the last couple of months. should i just hang on and hope they've been on a long holiday, or in prison, or should i kill the bug??
  17. cant see any problem with it myself - if it raises a few quid for Groundspeak, then surely this is good for all of us. i reckon we are all lucky that the website functions without us having to pay subs towards all the time and effort that goes into it - and we are lucky to have mods like lacto approve our caches - all free of charge. i wont be going to the event as it's too far away, but how could anyone critisice an event that could maybe lead to new cachers - possibly providing us with some wonderful new caches? you never know! ?! i hope it's a success and spreads the addiction!
  18. thought i'd add this log by klaus23 - from a cache of mine - lost key log
  19. oh dear! a few wrong answers put me in sixth place! must try harder next time! good fun though and worth a look!
  20. i used to run a photo lab some years ago (before i started caching) and used to get people asking for the empty film pots at least a couple of times a week. one time i asked a bloke why he wanted them and he told me he wanted to make bombs with them! reckoned he was a science teacher or something and he was gonna fill them with compressed air - heat them up and watch them explode! well, i tried it myself using a can of clean air used to blow dust of the negatives - and sure enough those pots did bang!! in hindsight, i wonder whether he was just a cacher and didnt want to explain about his obsession! so, as other posters have said - go to any photo lab, chemist or camera shop and most will be happy to hand over plenty of pots - might be best not to say you're making bombs though!!
  21. Diana's 'ring' - now that would be an interesting icon to have wouldnt it!? lol! ok i'll drag my mind out of the gutter now!
  22. im thinking of upgrading my etrex legend to something flash with a colour screen - and as i use my gps in woodlands much of the time (not just for geocaching) i would like something that handles heavy tree cover well. i'd therefore be grateful for your opinions and recommendations based on what gear you use. cheers!
  23. i sent this link to my dad - who sent it to my uncle. being a big old drama queen, my uncle soiled his underpants, and thinking that his plates had been cloned he picked up the phone to report it to the police. - my dad on skype told him to look at the photo - just as he was dialing his local station. i wish i could have seen my uncle having a fit about his 'cloned' plates and i wish i could have seen his face when he realised he almost made a right proper 'bum hole' of himself to the police! a quality link! - tho i dont expect to still be on my uncles christmas card list! ah well,it was worth it - the family will remind him about it for years to come!! cheers very much!!
