  1. A bit of a plug I suspect but given the thread I thought I'd risk mentioning the new Hornet's Hide 10. Could almost have been designed with this topic in mind (but wasn't). Check it out if you feel like it. Peter [This message was edited by The Hornet on May 07, 2002 at 07:15 AM.]

  3. I think a clue (encrypted) is a very good idea although I would still try caches without. I personally always try to put my caches somewhere fairly distinctive that, even with my GPS's notorious offset, should enable a searcher to find it. If there are a multitude of possible hiding places in the immediate vicinity the encrypted clue tends to be quite specific i.e. "walk 10 paces due north from the solitary lamp post and look behind the........etc". That way you can look for as long as you want to then either give up or use the clue. It's up to you. Peter
  4. IE6 on Win XP and Win 2000 Server (don't ask why, it's a long story!) Also IE whatever on a Compaq iPaq Pocket PC
  5. See rabbits a'plenty, quite a few deer(mostly muntjac) and the other week came across my first adder when doing the SP series in Berkshire. Has anyone else noticed a seemingly large increase in butterfly numbers this year? Peter

  7. I've been having internet problems so haven't been checking the forums and so have missed this thread. I'm really keen and would love to participate on 26th May. It will be really good to put some faces to names (am I mad or what!?). Living round here I'd propose the Watford area but would be happy to travel. If it's around Watford I would happily put up a few new Hornet's Hides, real or probably virtual with a bit of hunting involved. Otherwise I'd be more than happy to hunt someone else's. Meanwhile Happy Birthday Mr Masher! Peter (aka Hornet)
  8. You leave that cache alone! It's in a lovely spot, all public land and no need to tresspass anywhere. The parking instructions are spot on so no excuses as long as you check a street map. The only possible improvement would be to put the co-ordinates of the suggested parking spot on the cache page. As for straying onto the golf course, it's pretty obvious what the open land at the edge of the wood is. Anyone who goes onto a golf course without looking for flying balls deserves what they get. As long as you're careful the few seconds it takes to get a GPS reading shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Peter
  9. I know it's not Bucks but why not visit Watford for Hornet's Hide 2 in Whippendell Woods as you've already found number 1. I'll try Watermeads 2 some time soon. Peter
  10. I have now found a patch that works on http://gpssoft.homestead.com/ This is nothing to do with me but I salute the author whoever he/she is. It's good for 2001 & 2002 versions of the European and US versions.
  11. I have been frustrated at the GPS refresh rate in Autoroute 2002 and have seen various posts from others in the same situation. 12. quote:Originally posted by el10t: Needless to say it also works with AR2002. (There is even a way to get it to update your location more frequently than once every 15 seconds, I believe) If you know how to change this annoying delay please let me know! As well as Geocaching I use the GPS/Aroute in my job as a courier and when I am getting close to a turn 15 seconds is a longgggg time. Peter
  13. New to this game so please put me on the list. Have just hidden my first 2 caches in the Watford area (Herts) and looking forward to seeing some activity here. Peter H
