  1. I just found a cache tonight where I had 3 previous DNFs plus 3 DNFs from other cachers. The CO went to verify the cache was still there and logged a find on the website - twice. This by itself, I don't have an issue with because maybe the CO doesn't know he can write a note instead of logging it as found. Tonight I found the cache after the owner realized that the coordinates were off by over 300 feet and posted the corrected coordinates. I did not expect to be the FTF since another cacher helped the CO find the correct coordinates. When I went to sign the log, the FTF was signed by the CO. The CO actually wrote "FTF" in his note about finding the cache to make sure it wasn't stolen. I just thought it was odd that the CO would sign log as an FTF, but to each his own.
  2. Right now I am over 500 finds in less than three years. The first calendar year I found 2 - probably right after I got a GPS for Christmas. I then went on a 457 consecutive day streak without a find before I "rediscovered" geocaching. I was camping with some relatives and their son wanted to find a cache nearby. I remembered that I had an app on my phone, grabbed my son, and we went to find a couple of caches. I returned from the trip, found my GPS device, and realized there were several caches near my son's lacrosse practice field. Instead of sitting in the car waiting for him, I started to go caching. Last year, I found just over 200. Mostly from hiking with my family, going to lacrosse practices, and riding my bike. This year I have found over 340 caches so far which came mostly from bike rides and hiking with the puppy. I like to ride my bike, but hate doing the same loop over and over again so geocaching helps me pick a unique route and allows me to find a few caches each time. If it wasn't for that camping trip, I would probably be one of those people that found a couple of caches and quit.
  3. D = 1.61 T = 1.57 I ride a road bicycle to the majority of my finds so I find a lot of LPCs. While my finds are not difficult, it gives me a chance to plan a new route for my morning bike ride each day. It has actually helped me ride more lately because my rides have a "purpose" instead randomly trying to ride 15-20 miles each day just to get some mileage on the bike.
  4. I have activated a TB (in Nevada) that I plan on taking to Hawaii with me on vacation and dropping it in Hawaii. Do I need to "dip" or visit a cache in Nevada with the TB to get travel miles for the placement in Hawaii or is activating it in Nevada enough to start the mileage log? There is no specific goal for the TB other than to travel as often as possible.
  5. I was driving today, passed by a spot where I know there is a cache because I attempted it once in the dark without any luck, and saw a group of cachers inspecting the area. Part of me wanted to pull over and see if they found it, but the part of me that didn't want to be late to an appointment took over and I'll have to find it on my own soon.
  6. Mine is based on how I teach my students to pronounce my last name.
