  1. LOL, I am a reveiwer for several Waymarking cat. some of them the most popular, I turn around 10-20 or more in less than 12 hours MAX from All over the world. If there isn't enough reviewers to keep up with demand in an area, Get some more. It isn't like we get paid to do it!!! and there is lots of people will to do it!
  2. Posted a new geocache (GC2A24F) yesterday (more than 24Hrs ago) How long does it take to review a geocache? Just wondered It's been a while since I posted one. a few years ago, they would be reviewed within a few hours!
  3. I got a Palm Pre Plus about a month ago, Love this phone! and would LOVE to see a better Geocaching app. As for Migrating the Iphone app to WebOS, Don't plan on it happening! Read up on webOS and Iphone, Groundspeak makes 70% of the 9.99 they charge Iphone users in their App store and untill everyone else catchs up to the "Iphone" they don't plan on making an app for that... SO... now apparently GS and Geocaching has become a money thing. I Predict like all things, APPLE will buy out Groundspeak and that will be the end of geocaching as we know it. I, Personally dropped my premium membership, as i am not supporting a company that does not support diversity. I hope that there are many other's out there like me. And one last thing, Last time I checked, geocaching was born in the USA... but somehome GS has released their Live.Geocaching.com website in it's full version to some other country's... yet we American's are left with beta. I am hoping that someone with Diversity, eventually buys out GS.
  4. I would really like to be able to post geocaching.com information such as finds, hides, trackable, events...ect to facebook.com. It would also be cool to be able to connect my geocaching account to facebook, the way i can connect youtube and other websites to Facebook, to autopost information such as new events and geocaches within a set area, and information that can be controlled about autoposting finds of owned caches and trackables. These enhancements would be really nice concidering there is not really any Blogging abilities with geocaching.com and most of my geocaching friends use facebook. I would like to be able to share geocaching information with my friends and family. This would also make geocaching.com a much more user friendly site.
  5. The problem was that the internal memmory in my device had become corupt. i had to do a formate on the entrie device and reinstall the firmware and then updated the software on my machine. then connected and everything works great... cool icons and the geocaching manager works nice! and the device works faster. can't wait to see the next update.
  6. I updated my reciever to 1.6 and set up the Send to GPS feature on geocaching.com. tried it the first time and everything worked great with the send to gps button. I tried to send another Geocaching to my reciever and it wrote over the the first one that i had put on... I can only have 1 Geocache on the GPS. also the information fields on the PN-20 have no information in them... there is no Difficulty/terrain the icon is not a Geocache and there is no discrition. i tried to load them threw Delormes topo software and when i exchanged it would only read the first 15 waypoints on the GPS and then freeze. tried to access internal memmory and it is messed up.. tried another firware update to fix the problem and nothing works now... keep getting a "Error storing waypoint 'Home' (Waypoint indexing problem.)" any help would be great!!
  7. Is anyone else having a problem with the image "avatar" not updating on your Home page after the photo and avatar are changed in "edit your profile". I updated my pictures and when i go to the main page or home page it is keeping my old picture, how do i change this or is there something wrong? I tried to update my avatar threw the forums hopeing that maybe it will update this image on the main site but it keeps taking me to a page seperate from the forums that says... "Important! If you make any changes to your profile and they do not update in the forums, click on the "Register" link on the forums page and it will send you to a page to update those settings." I am unable to find this "register" link unless i am logged out?!?!? Further more, i am unable to find any place in the forums to update those settings! although, with the avatar changed in my profile, my avatar has changed in the forums, just not on the main page. what am i missing?
  8. I'll take a shot at this. These numbers probably are NOT coordinates. There is no conversion. This is probably a line call that you have somewhat mangled because you don't understand what you are looking at. But you have a lot of company. Half of the responders to this thread have no clue either. This is my best guess at making sense of what you have provided, based on what I have seen in the past. This is a line 54.94 feet long. It is indicating a line projecting into the NorthEast quadrant. If you knew where it was, you could stand at the pin on the Southernmost end of the line. To find the other end from there, Face North (probably magnetic North). Rotate clockwise (East) 34 Degrees, 19 Minutes, 27 Seconds. Now pace off in that direction 54.94 feet to find the pin on other end. You need to know where one pin is, and follow the line calls from pin to pin to pin. There are only four varieties of line calls. (1) - N specified angle E (face North, rotate East) (2) - N specified angle W (face North, rotate West) (3) - S specified angle E (face South, rotate East) (4) - S specified angle W (face South, rotate West) Did I manage to make any of this make sense? I have tracked down quite a few property pins, but you do need at least one known starting point. If the survey info is 50 years old, I determine the Magnetic Declination in that area at that time. I determine the Magnetic Declination now and note the declination differences. I factor in that info, and do a lat/long projection to a spot at the specified distance in the specfied direction. Good luck. Got any questions? I think that you are right. Here is the directions. help me make sense of this please. Thanks "BEGINNING at a set rebar on the southeastern edge of a said along Freedom Avenue and marking the western corner of the here in described premises; thence along the southeastern edge of said sidewalk North 34º 19’ 27 East 54.94 feet to a set rebar; thence along lands now or formerly of Keith Wilson known as 524 East Freedom Avenue South 44º 14’ 27’ East (passing through a concrete monument on line at 4.84 feet) 214.96 feet to a set rebar; thence along Parcel B on aforesaid plan South 48º 30’ 00 West 48.80 feet to a set rebar; thence along the northeast edge of Poplar Street North 45° 41’ 30 West 201.80 feet to set rebar, the point and place of beginning. Containing 0.2456 acre and being designated Parcel A on aforesaid plan of subdivision. "
  9. I have been searching the web for a way to convert some surveying cords for property boundary markers, i have been unable to locate the markers of rebar due to the fact that there is alot of Iron Slag in the area which causes my metal detector to go crazy. so as a last resort to getting close to the area to locate the Rebar i am trying to convert the official cords from the survey papers which are in Degrees, feet, inches to Degrees, min. The cords are N 34° 19' 27" E 54.94" Any Idea's on how to convert or read this?
  10. I recently purchased a Delorme Earthmate PN-20 as an alternative to the Triton 500 that I had planned to purchase, but couldn't because of Magellan's delays on shipping and problems. I have used the Delorme Earthmate PN-20 for about 2 weeks now. I have taken it out on several geocaching trips and read the manual threw entirely. I have also been using Delorme Topo USA 7.0 with the GPS. I will try to make this review as detailed as possible. I purchased the Earthmate for 299.95 from TigerGPS.com. The box contained: Delorme Earthmate PN-20 GPSr Delorme Topo USA 7.0 Software DVD / 3 PN-20 Details map DVDs for East, Central and West regions Getting started DVD Owners Manual $100.00 worth of map data downloads 2 Energizer AA Batteries Lanyard 1G SD card SD Card Reader USB Cable I Installed the batteries and turned on the receiver, It took about 15 Min the first time I turned it on to download the satellite information, since this has been done, on average I would say it take less than 30 seconds from a cold start to acquire a 3D signal, from a warm start it takes only a few seconds. I was very impressed with the signal quality, as I can set in my living room (in a 2 story house) and receive 5 good bars. When installing the software it took quite a while. Be Very Patient! it took me at least an hour to install everything onto my hard drive. The interface is quite different from what I have seen before and took some time to get used to. Once I had figured out how everything worked with the software I found it Very useful, as Roads, trails, Poi's, and many other features can be added to the map. The detail maps for the GPS are premade on the regional DVDs included in the package and can be easily downloaded to the SD card. I HIGHLY recommend using the SD Card Reader to transfer maps over or you will be waiting for HOURS! In the Handheld Export Tab, you can select sections of the map to download and at what zoom level you will see them, it is preset but you can set them up any way you like, this looks to me to be a bit confusing so i don't mess with it and everything works great. In this tab you can also download and upload waymarks, routes and geocaches and other map data in seconds (NOT Maps though, Use the SD card reader) The software also allows the GPS to be used in real-time on the software when plugged in using the USB cable. The software can be set to be used for traveling with the GPS plugged into it. Another really nice feature is that the GPS uses external Power when plugged into the USB port so it does not use batteries. Other map data that can be downloaded are: Sat-10 images ($0.05/Km) USGS DOQQ Aerials ($0.10/Km) USGS COLOR DOQQ Aerials ($1.00/km) USGS 1:24 Quads ($0.10/km) NOAA Charts ($10.00 Per Chart) USGS Hi-Res 133 City aerial ($2.00/km) Now, down to the GPSr itself. when you start the GPSr up you get a Delorme Earthmate PN-20 Splash Screen and if set up can also display owner information. The Satellite screen, here it shows you basic information about satellite strength, connection and location. In the menu you can disable the GPS feature and just use it as a digital map indoors. The Map Screen, Here you see were you are, all the detail maps and SAT, USGS, or Aerial images you have downloaded, you will only see some Images at certain zoom levels. and the zoom comes into 20 feet. Also a circle shows your accuracy around your little arrow. the arrow flashes red if no signal, Solid green if 3D and Solid blue if WAAS. I must say this screen can tend to be slow. Not slow enough to be a bother though. I would say it is a drawback though. The Routes screen, here it shows you all your routes, Routes are fairly easy to set up, as you can press the find button, select a waypoint and then select if you want direct route or Road route, it will calculate your best or fastest way to get there via road and it take you there much like a travel GPS does (without voice prompts, although it does beep when you are coming up to a turn) This feature tends to take a few min to calculate your route if you select roads. yet another drawback, but not bothersome. The find button can be difficult to use if you are trying to look up an address. It does work but it takes some time to enter the information and searching is slow. The Waypoints Screen, Here it gives you a list of all your waypoints, one of my favorite features is with geocaches, it does not display them as the container or type they are, otherwise a Gold chest either Open for a found cache or closed for one not found. it also gives some information on the cache, but not much. still not a single device for geocaching yet. although they are getting there. The compass screen, Here it give you a compass, just like every other GPSr out there. not really any different. It is NOT an electronic compass. the fields on this page are changeable The Trip screen, Here it shows your details about your trip, Speed, max speed, time, cords, etc... these can all be changed and customized. There are several other screens I am not going to explain : Track, Route Directions, Device setup, tides, sun/moon, fishing/hunting. You can also change the color of your menu's. This device will also interface with some heart monitoring and cycling computers (from what i have read). I have read some reviews about the buttons feeling cheap. At first I would have to agree. until i used it for a while. they are very sturdy and solid, easy to use with gloves on. the device over all has a very solid feel to it, it is a little bulky but nothing compared to my old Meridian Gold. There are 2 Screws on the battery door compartment and it feels very solid, I would trust it to seal out water. The SD card slot/holder inside the battery compartment could use some work. BE VERY CAREFUL with it . it seems very flimsy. There are a few aftermarket things you can get for it. I have done some research on this. the USB cable that it comes with it powers the device, so I bought a USB car power/charger to power it in the car and a USB AC power jack. I also bought a RCRV3 1300mAh 3.0v Li-Ion battery from eBay for 6 dollars, It's the same one they sell in the car kit. All I need now is a universal windshield mount. (like the one in the car kit) and I will have the entire car kit, I put together myself for less than $20.00. as for geocaching. I would say it is cheating. I have noticed that when it says your accuracy is within 20 feet, you are usually standing on top of the box! I would give this GPSr a 5 out of 5, How many GPSr do you see that you can put sat and aerial images on? it may be a little slow at some processes but I have compared it to a SiRFStarIII and it works equally well. I am very happy with this and I would only recommend it to someone with experience. This one is NOT FOR BEGINNERS! (the device is easy to use, the software can be VERY confusing) If you have any questions or want more information, let me know! Subsystem
  11. I agree with you Zen, Lets keep it on subject. Also, I have had a good track record with Magellan, the missing cable issue, don't they out source for packaging? if they do, then why is everyone blaming magellan for their short comings, all the posts that I have seen of people not getting cables have called and they are sending them to them. I have not heard of a release date for the triton 500's yet and from the posts on yahoo the 300 did come with the usb cable and from other sources i have read that the missing cable problem was only with the 1500's. so I feel good that everything will come with the rest. Here is my question. Has anyone really, REALLY given them a good run? I want to know how they function. how quickly this new SirFStarIII chip is and what it means to me! I have an Idea... Lets talk about all the cool, good, neat things they will do when we get them! and if there is a problem, lets give Magellan a fair chance to correct it, instead of jumping the gun. lets face it, only a few are out. your always gonna have a critic in the crowd, so a few people had a bad experience and came to the web to rant about it. How many OTHER people are out there enjoying their new triton's and having so much fun that they would rather be playing with it than on the net. Give it a few weeks... When i get mine. i will give it a serious go, then give you a serious review! The only problem i have had was with Dell, I ordered a Triton 500 from Dell on 11/11. The price seemed right at $237, it was to ship in 1-2 weeks according to their site, on other related sites, if you search for tritons it will tell you that Dell has them instock. but now when you go to their website it says 3-5 weeks. The triton 500 was to ship on 11/28, i recieved an e-mail stating that they were backordered and it would ship on 12/5. once again, backordered till 12/12. they have given me next day air shipping for free. I ordered the NG Topo! state series for PA and Jersey, Received it in about a week, No Problem. Although i had to contact NG to get a update from then so the triton will connect to TOPO! From looking at these maps, i have alot of questions. 1. if you can put levels 4 and 5 on the GPSr, is there a way that you will be able to have 2 base maps, one when zoomed out and the other when zoomed in? 2. Will it be able to remove the roads overlay and just see the map, or will it be like exporting a map to a image file. I downloaded Vantage Point and played with it alittle, i noticed the import map button. 3. can the NG maps be Imported from the GPSr to Vantage Point and if they can, why can't we just export to vantage point instead of connecting the GPSr directly to NG to download the maps? I have tried to export to a SD card. Not Supported. Although it should be! and I had discovered that you can only load 100 quad maps at any time. i got a 2G SD Card to put all the maps on, but it looks as though if i want to put all the maps on i am going to have to break them up into a bunch of seperate files. Another thing i have not seen anyone talk about was the Altimeter/Barometer functions on the 500's. 4. Is the Altimeter/Barometer functions going to be improved? It would be nice to see something weather related on the main screen or an alert when there are sudden changes in barometric pressure. or maybe the ability to see the barometric pressure or altimeter on one of the nav. screens. I have read were the tritons will also be compatible with the old mapsend software, is this true? can i use my old Merigold waypoints or tracks with this one? and Finally, Does anyone know when these GPSr's will be released? I have seen hints (so-to-speak) on e-bay, some sellers are saying 12/5, most are saying 12/14. other places have a Mid-December. but we have all heard that before!

Triton Instock?!?!?? I ordered the NG Topo! state series for PA and Jersey, Recieved it in about a week, No Problem. The large icon works: Here is a link directly to the coin http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=614120
  16. Went to keenpeople.com they redirect to the GPXsonar website... which is still down! any Mirrors that i could get it from or anyone that has it?
  17. Anyone know where i can get GPX sonar v1.0 or 1.1 Which ever one works for the older Pocket PC's 2002 or later... I had my PPC go down and lost everything and the GPSSonar website is not responding so i can't get it back... for some odd reason i can download v1.3 which i can not use. Please send it to me at subsystem79@gmail.com Thanks
  18. I have 4 geocoins and 2 of them, The icons are not working, they show up as X's were the images should be. These icons are the small icons. not on the coin's page, but in the cache they are located in and on my inventory list. the coins are my Math Coin (little Pi icon) and my new Signal july 06 geocoin (cent icon, which i don't think is the right icon, cause it is supposed to have a custom icon, but the icon isn't showing up on the geocoinstore/signal page either. it has X's on the image too.) is anyone else having problems with geocoin icons?
  19. Really we are just lookin for Public Access / Stocked areas or good places to fish. For Instance, I love to fish, and i go on a trip, and i wanted to find a nice place to fish in another state. Shooting Ranges Group Hope to hear from you soon Subsystem
  24. I would like to adopt Fishing Holes, I do lots of fishing and i would enjoy adopting this category.
  25. I have read about a frequency for FRS. if i remember correctly .. it is channel 2, the only thing about that is, what kind of radio is that on? the older ones had less channels than the newer ones and the channels are not always the same, a friend and I found that out. my father had an older FRS radio that didn't have all the channels and it worked with my newer Cobra Microtalk that have all 22 channels with 38 security channels. I have a set of FRS Radio's and i always have one with me (not usually on though), i do turn it on to channel 2 when i am caching in hopes of talking to other geocachers in the area.
