I'm super super super excited. I've wanted to go geocaching for about 2 years, but didn't have the finances / ambition to really start. But, I saw a Magellan SporTrak Pro for sale in a local store for only $120, and I couldn't resist. Whoopee! I hope to find my first cache this Saturday!
I'm afraid the SporTrak pro might not be the best gps to use, but it is fine for a noob, right? I've heard really bad things about the street map software available for it, but does that really matter? Also, there are several 1/1 caches in my area near the river, am I setting myself up for failure if I try to find more than one my first time out? Is there a technique to choosing that first cache to find? Where do you go shopping to swap out cache items, or do you use old stuff from around the home?
For the last couple of days I've been driving my hubby crazy with "guess what our elevation is now?" and "guess what our coordinates are now?" and "guess what time the moon rise was today?" But I've also been daydreaming about all the weight I'm going to loose due to hiking, how I'm instantly going to become a great outdoorsman, and all the beautiful scenery that's right in my backyard that I'm finally going to enjoy, now that I have a gps unit. (I know that actually, since the rain season is starting here, my poor gps will probably gather dust, and I'll continue to get fatter while playing video games and watching TV)
Yeah, yeah, I’m rambling. But I guess that's a newbie for you...
