  1. Got mine today...had forgotten about this....I have tried some other promotions but never got the TB....either to late or out of stock...surprised they sent me 1 all the way to Northern Ontario... Will activate and release soon....
  2. Great news....After my partners TB was dropped in a cache that got archived, some one rescued it and it seems to be on its way again... http://coord.info/TB54G42 ...Glad to see that it may make it to my location after all....meanwhile mine is still 12 miles away from its intended destination...http://coord.info/TB4XBFN..
  3. WooHoo My little Jeep is cruising right along.....12 miles to go.......http://coord.info/TB4XBFN
  4. Wow I cant believe the jump my TB made today....http://coord.info/TB4XBFN....It is now about 250km or so from it`s intended target cache....
  5. Here is what worked for me when I had that problem....Open a cache page, before you click on Send to GPS, go to the tools in your browser and add that page to in the Compatibility View settings, then try to Send to GPS.....Good Luck...
  6. Sounds like fun.... Count me in
  7. I have been using the Colorado 300 since 2009, and I have had the issues you describe. Here is what happened and what I did... I use Energizer NiMH HR6 2300mAh rechargeable since I bought the unit with no issues...except for dying....I usually get 8 to 10 hours on 1 set of batteries without the backlight....Once, the batteries died on me while we were out touring the back country and all I had were a set of Duracell regular batteries. I loaded those in and WHAM....all hell broke lose on my gps...what you described, happened.....Luckily we new where we where and made are way back home....Once I got home I loaded a new set of rechargeable in the gps and still everything was all messed up....powered down before boot up...Garmin screen stuck in the center...Turns out the NIMH setting in the gps didn't like the regular batteries....I have 2 chargers for my batteries....1 is a quick charge that will charge 4 batteries in a couple of hours and the other will trickle charge 4 batteries in 16 hours...so I drained a set of rechargeable completely in a flashlight and put them in the trickle charger and waited till they were fully charged....I have found with the Colorado that when it starts to act up 1/2 or even 3/4 charged batteries still don't help....Next day I put the fully charged ones in the GPS....without the SD card and booted it up....Success for me anyway...it stayed on....I checked my setting and it had indeed changed the battery setting to alkaline ....seems like my Colorado anyway, doesn't like to use alkaline batteries in the NiMH setting, as does the alkaline setting not like the NiMH batteries....weird I know but that's what mine does....This wasn't the first time it has done it but when I do what I did it seems to fix it...Then I did a master rest as described above and reloaded it with my personal settings....I have found that if I know the rechargeable are about to die, and |I don't have another set but regular batteries I change the battery setting before I shut it down, Change the batteries to the regular ones and reboot....It seems to not mind it that way....I know it all sounds unreasonable but it worked for me....I have also fixed my scroll wheel half a dozen times or so if anyone needs help with that.....GOOD LUCK
  8. Sounds like we have the starting of Lingham lake tour ride developing...Meanwhile along with the some of my already published 4x4 caches I plan on placing more off roading caches here in Sudbury....We already have quite a collection of 4x4 and quad caches in the area, but I was thinking of using the old rail bed that has gone to Rails to Trails to set up a power off roading trail...I have so far travelled from South River to Capreol (hiding a few caches of course http://coord.info/GC420BG for 1 )via the old rail bed that turns into the snowmobile trail on the 1st of December...
  9. Well we made it to the Lingham lake trail yesterday morning only to find out that the deer hunters broke all the Beaver dams the weekend before..the trail was mostly a river...I could have canoe`d to the caches but we didn't bring it. The road in was littered with hunters, there were so many that the hills and Hydro lines looked like they were covered in orange smarties....They were everywhere...trucks and trailers lined up for a mile or so on both sides of the road, at the hunting lodge.....So we decided to leave it till next year.....With all that said I would like to get a group of offroad cachers together if anyone is interested in going....
  10. Can anyone give me an update on this trail.....I was thinking of going there next week some time and try and do all the caches in 1 day....Will be going in with an 88 Jeep Comanche with 4 inches of lift and 33 inch Mud terrains...Also have an 8000 lb winch, and all recovery gear needed....
  11. This description is excellent Doug.....There is 1 cacher here that has hidden 1 exactly as you have explained..... http://coord.info/GC4FWD3 It is early in its placement but has so far stumped the locals....I cant reveal the details of this cache....but I don't think it will be found soon....
  12. I will do the maintenance for you if you wish. I live pretty close to and have been to the Cup and Saucer many times. I also have other cachers from out of town that have caches in Sudbury that I maintain for them..Send me a PM and we can get it going for you...
  13. I came across a private blog today by a geocacher that has posted pictures and details of many caches in various areas. The pictures show the exact location as well as a very clear view of where the caches are hidden. Lots of my caches have been published on this blog as well as many other cachers hides. Personally I am very disappointed that this cacher has done this. What should or can be done about this blog....I was thinking of sending the bloggers link to every cache owner that is on that blog........ Comments and thoughts as how to proceed would be appreciated....
  14. Congrats Chris...Cant wait to hear all about your trip when you get back to Sudbury....
  15. You should come to Sudbury and check out his hides....They are very creative and are extremely original....
  16. Thats the 1 he is refering to...Funny thing is 1 day after this thread was started Grounspeak has asked Dynamic Earth to remove this event... deunderground Premium Member Write note 09/20/2012 Unfortunately, though the event was originally cleared to be posted on geocaching.com, Groundspeak has asked us to remove the event. This does not mean the event is cancelled! Please check dynamicearth.ca/dynamicdash for event details and we look forward to seeing you next Saturday! But you can still follow this event at..... http://saga.forumotion.ca/t10-dynamic-dash-geocache-event and at..... http://nog.upnorthtracks.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1591&sid=c56a224ee68b28b42c398935678002df
  17. Here is the cache the TO is refering to http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=c7176bb8-c5ed-4353-ab0b-81cba119e5f5 Even tho some cutting has been going on....This is still the highest point in Ontario....Check the logs and you will see that the next cacher would probably say it is still a 5/5....Many miles to any road.....no town for miles around, and still a long hike to the top.....I agree with archiving and re-publishing a cache if it has changed significantly but this 1 hasnt changed enough to warant a change in D/T....
  18. I would like to introduce to you S.A.G.A. Home of the World`s Biggest Nickel. Sudbury Area Geocachers Association newest forum can be found at this link. http://saga.forumotion.ca/ Please bear with us as this forum is only 2 days old and is still under construction, slowly I might add as I am not a computer wizard, but trying my best to develop a fun and informative forum. Please feel free to sign up and suggest helpful pointers to improve our forum. Any help I can get would be fantastic. Keep an eye out for S.A.G.A.`s debut event coming soon.
  19. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC3K75D Check out this cache...he even tells you to park at the tracks and they are high speed freight tracks... The road actually ends at the tracks....CNR dug a ditch about 15 feet deep on both sides of the tracks.... 4X4`s and ATV have tried to cross to no avail.....CN police have handed out tickets....
  20. •The cache is on property belonging to a railroad. In the United States we generally require a distance of 150 ft (46 m) from active tracks. Local laws may vary The rule states 150 feet from the tracks but can we cross them if the cache is more then 150 feet on the other side... I know of a few caches here that we HAVE to cross the tracks to get to them, there are no other ways to get to them...
  21. Dont know if your Montana is like my Colorado but every time I change the batteries I have to re-calibrate my compass. Sometimes when I get to the cache my GPS does what yours does, so I find a clear area and re-calibrate my compass again.....pain in the butt, but it works for me....hope that helps...also the terrain your in might do funny things to your gps also, rock cliffs are notorious for that as are overhead high power tower lines....like the previous posters said walk away and return might work....
  22. I noticed that you commented on the rating of the cache. I think the rating system can be a bit misleading and, at times, even dangerously so. In this case, if you had to walk to the cache, it might be a 2/4 so the grading of 2/2.5 for a canoe seems reasonable since using a boat makes the cache easier! I am not sure if there would be any liability from the cache owner or Groundspeak for misleading ratings. Doesnt really matter to me what the terrain level is marked as, as I do these for the adventure. I commented on that 1 cache that I thought it should be a five rating cause the road to the west is a private road, we drove the jeep as close to the cache as we could(.5 miles) but had no water access to launch our canoe. After heading back to the Provincial park, they wanted $14 just to launch even after I informed them we were Geocachers after a cache, but that didnt matter. So there was no way I was going to pay just to launch for an hour and a half. We found a small entrance to the lake from the side of the road about .5 miles from the park. We had a 3 foot drop to the lake at that point but a 1.25 mile canoe crossing to do instead of a .75 mile paddle. Again the terrain doesnt really matter to me as most of our caches here are hard to give an accurate terrain level, dont forget I live in Sudbury were the general terrain is mostly big big rock mountains ranging in all terrain levels....I thought that any water access caches were suppose to be a 5 but then again that dont matter to me.
  23. Up here in Northern Ontario we have quite a few Canoe,Kayak and Boat caches,. As a matter of fact Rosegirl2003 and I just returned from an FTF canoe cache(GC3M06B) as well as an older cache(GC1FWD8) that was in the area...
  24. I just did that cache yesterday, too bad I didnt read this before...I live in Sudbury and I am willing to go look for it if you can give me a better idea of your tracks. I am often in that area with my Jeep, but there area lot of giant mud hills back there and power lines....I am guessing you are talking about Barrydowne and Maley drive, but that would have been the long way to the New Sudbury View Cache if thats the 1 you mean...When I went there I went in at Agincourt and took a trail between NSV and Golden creek cache....
